3 night business trip in December. At least my 3rd time at this hotel and never disappoints. Very nice upgraded room to a suite, staff are great and the food was also really good. Had some amazing salmon for dinner perfectly cooked. Also love the lounge area there.

Our experience with the staff, hospitality and spa were excellent. (Caitlin was exceptional). We were in the hotel over Christmas because my husband of 51 years and my sons father had died suddenly and we could not bear being at home. This was an escape for us and we were all a bit fragile. Unfortunately on our last morning at breakfast another guest at a near by table really took the shine off our time with you, ruined our calm and our day. We were laughing and talking at the table (I was thinking how nice it was that we could laugh) and she waved her arms at us, told us to calm down, to be quiet and that this was a 5 star hotel and we needed to learn how to behave in one. I was shocked and upset and knew we were not making that much noise - we have also stayed at many 5 star hotels over the past 50 years and did know we were in a public space and that we were behaving appropriately - as confirmed by the guests at the table behind us. She was not a Kiwi (French I think) and her partner had prior to this accidentally pushed a large plastic container over the breakfast bar by the juice machine into the kitchen making a huge crashing noise and had then broken the juice machine by being rough. So a bit rich to say we were not appropriate. We had a verbal altercation from our tables as I think we had reached a breaking point in our very fragile state and when they stood to leave it started again and I stood up and she kept on poking her finger at me and my son got up very upset and told her not to do that to his mother. He did at this stage swear inappropriately but he had lost his cool by this stage. He did apologise for this to the other guests. Your staff intervened and did well. The guests then left the breakfast room and we were left shattered, very upset, feeling like we had been treated as children, and the whole point of us being there had been totally ruined by a very insensitive, rude guest who had no right to comment on our laughing. I did mention we had had a bereavement and she just didn't care. So sadly we did not come away with a warm glow after 4 days staying with you and enjoying a Christmas meal with you. I was upset for 2 days and couldn't shake it and it set my grieving process back. I in no way blame your staff for any of this - it was out of their hands. My daughter in law did complain to the manager and he did at least listen and apologise (it was not his fault) and that helped to just be listened to.

The SO/Auckland was a great home base for us as we got over our her lag and explored Auckland. The staff was friendly and helpful, the location made it easy to get onto your boats, the ferry, the Hop-On/Hop-Off bus, and we even walked to our cruise ship with our luggage when we knew how close & easy it was.

Great stay otherwise, but the room was sold to me as a room with city view. Turned out i had no view at all with a terrasse right outside my window blocking the view to the city - I had to have the curtains down at all time to assure privacy.
