Room nice and impressive. Not allowing breakfast in the garden with 20 C was a real real disappointment. Head waiter very rejecting and not showing any flexibility. Did not provide us with kitchen options for breakfast. Check out and handing of key cars didn’t work. Nobody at the parking lot. Had to call back.

We enjoyed a very comfortable stay, we liked the toiletries, the bed was relaxing and the location ideal. I would have liked a full length mirror in the room, as I am 150cm tall and couldn’t see myself in full.

The hotel room and standard of customer service were exceptional. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend the hotel without hesitation. Only two minor additions would have enhanced our experience: having Dom Pérignon available and offering a simpler bar menu with a selection of light bites. These are small suggestions following an otherwise excellent stay.

Hotel room was very cold - stayed two nights and had to request heater - eventually arrived with a base leg missing !

My third stay at Hotel de la Cite, a stunning location within the walled city, friendly and helpful staff throughout the stay, dealing with various functions including the literary event for Convenanza on the Sunday. Highly professional with great attention to detail. Hope to see you in 2027!

Beautiful hotel, great service and location. Room had lots of amenities.

The gardens and outdoor areas of the hotel are beautiful and very well maintained. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the inside of the hotel, which feels tired, dated and in desperate need of refurbishment. There was a stale, unpleasant smell throughout the hotel, the carpets were worn, and much of the woodwork needs rubbing down and repainting. At around midday on one occasion, a member of staff was hoovering around the entrance area and the smell coming from the vacuum cleaner was awful. It smelt as though the bag desperately needed changing and the inside of the vacuum needed a thorough clean. We were chatting to some other residents who also commented on the smell. If this was representative of the equipment being used to clean the hotel, it perhaps goes some way towards explaining the stale and unpleasant smell inside. Our bathroom sink was chipped, and the shower was positioned over the bath and was incredibly low – I am only 5'2" and even I found it too low. We stayed for four nights and our room was only serviced once during our stay. One of the biggest disappointments was the service around the outside bar. There always seemed to be plenty of staff on reception, but the bar was consistently understaffed. On a normal day, we regularly waited around 10 minutes for a drink. On two occasions there were events taking place at the hotel, and this made the situation considerably worse. During the second event on the Sunday, the drinks selection was reduced to just a few choices and we were initially told there was no bar food available. After I complained, we were able to order food, which was kindly provided free of charge as a gesture of goodwill. There appeared to be only three people serving at the bar despite approximately 70 additional guests attending the event. Our usual 10-minute wait for drinks increased to around 25 minutes. I asked to speak to a manager and was told that he would come out to the pool to speak to me. Unfortunately, he never appeared. I returned to reception and was told he was busy, although the reception team did arrange food and drinks for us. I would particularly like to say that the reception and bar staff did an amazing job in very difficult circumstances. They were trying their best to manage the large influx of people while also dealing with complaints from hotel residents. My criticism is not directed at them. Management would have known in advance that these events were taking place and that approximately 70 additional people would be using the hotel's facilities, yet there appeared to have been no adequate increase in staffing. On our final day, we also found the pool to be dirty, which added to the overall disappointment. For a hotel advertised as five-star, this simply wasn't the standard of accommodation or service I expected, particularly considering the amount we paid – and that price did not even include breakfast. The hotel has beautiful grounds and some excellent, hardworking staff, but the building itself desperately needs investment and the management of staffing levels, particularly when events are taking place, needs significant improvement. Sadly, based on our experience, it did not feel like a five-star hotel.

Wonderful until I had food poisoning in the restaurant, then dreadful...

The hotel is rather tired, we observed this in room 204 by the state of the windows and other fixtures. Also your staff are very variable in their abilities. Some reception staff smile and are very hospitable, others not so comfortable with human interaction. Similarly in the bar the two young ladies were very fast and polite. The young man extremely slow and focusing attention mostly on American guests leaving others parched after being seated for 10 mins.

Our taxi dropped us off at the car park with the office which was vacant and no direct phone to reception. I telephoned reception but my call wasn't answered even though I'd checked in earlier. This meant carrying our luggage up to the hotel where I'd expected a concierge to be on duty. Iasked about a coffee and we were directed to the Boulangerie de la Cite but this was disappointing with having to queue as there was no table service and the coffee was served in paper cups. Later on, check in was easy enough and we were shown to Room 216 with a terrace. I went back to reception to ask if someone could check that our fridge was working correctly but I'm not aware that anyone came. We dined at Chez Chrisine a short distance away. After one night I asked Reception to check our airconditioning which wasn't keeping the room cool enough and again I wasn't aware of anyone coming to investigate. Room 216 was a bit on the small side with only one chair to share but nicely appointed with the terrace. An improvement to the terrace might be some form of lightng. Breakfasts in the elegent dining room were satisafctory but the menu wanted us to pay more for some forms of cooked breakfasts. This was quite unexpected and we ordred basic breakfasts which were quite basic and meagre in size. My omlette had one piece of bacon but my request for more bacon was complied with. Staff were few and far between during both the breakfasts we had and on the second morning, a request for GF bread for my wife was never complied with sadly. I ordered pancakes and whilst two arrived, I thought three might have been a better portion. On leaving the hotel a car dropped us off down at Place Carnot which was much appreciated. The driver was most helpful and I don't suppose the poor interior condition was his fault. We were both a bit let down by the two-night experience and remembered a stay in Spain last year at the Canfranc Estacion where the concierge met us and accompanied us to Recemption where he poured us an enjoyable glass of champagne.

The hotel was very clean and so much attention to details, as well as so historic.

We stayed for one night. It was our first trip to Carcassonne and we could not have chosen a better place to stay. The hotel is beautiful, well appointed and our bedroom was perfect. It opened on to the gardens next to the pool so we could step outside in the early morning and walk in the garden. The staff were very kind and attentive. Everything was very clean and well maintained. We enjoyed the outside bar and we also experienced the breakfast, which was delicious. Our thanks to all the staff who made our stay so perfect.

Unfortunately, directly below our room - 302, we had 2 rooms of guests who decided to hold their own dance party on their outdoor balconies until I yelled at them at 5.30 am. It was continuous from around 2 am at least. One older gentleman in the room with the larger terrace, and 3 women in the smaller one. Whilst not the hotel’s fault, I find it hard to fathom that we were the only people to hear the noise over an extended period. Then, at breakfast. I am not sure if we did something to upset the lady who runs the breakfast, and if we did, I apologise. But we arrived at 9.45 am, and were handed our menus and our coffee order was taken. We saw different tables of people arrive after us with their orders taken - at least 4 tables of people. 10 minutes later, our tea and coffee arrived - cold. 15 minutes after arriving, we were finally asked what we would like to eat. We kept trying to get to the orange juice, but it would sit for extended times empty, and by the time it was filled, people in seats closer to the buffet would fill their cups, and it would be empty again for periods. We never managed to get orange juice. At 10.15 am we were told the buffet was closing and there were hardly any people left at that stage. And just after that, our hot meals finally arrived - cold again, and without toast, as advertised. I then went myself and picked up a pepper grinder from another table, as ours had none. I would like to say the place was busy, but it did not seem that busy. And, to be honest, the buffet was, at best, average. On the positive side. The concierge was excellent. Booking us in for dinner before we arrived, and providing us with excellent advice. The hotel itself is superb in an outstanding location.

Amazing location. Beautiful, large room, wonderful lobby, beautiful pool and pool bar. The guest service, along with valet, and wait staff all made the experience even better. I would recommend this hotel and return just to stay here!
