Nice hotel, great staff, old rooms

Loved the stay, but the room had issues. It was advertised as air conditioned, but all the unit did was blow out heat. When asking the front desk, they said to turn it off as the room does not have air conditioning. Not sure if that was truthful or not... Also, there was sewer gas coming out of the shower drain and it smelled like an unclean public restroom in the hot summer. Really, really nauseating. I could run water in it to make the smell go away for a few hours though. Maybe it was just my room, so take this as you will. I still think it is a great place to stay in Carcassonne though, and would recommend. Mostly due to location and the excellent staff.

Conference at Hotel de la Cite

Attended a conference here in a centre next to main hotel. Location in the fortified medieval town is interesting and it is next to the main church. The old town is car-, bus- and taxi-free (you only get taken to the gates in the medieval walls), although people staying at Hotel de la Cite can use a special hotel taxi. Good facilities: 4 rooms for ~50 people each, 3 rooms can be opened up together for a plenary session (150 people). Entrance hall for reception desk/displays/posters. Light refreshments were served in a marquee outside the main building. We enjoyed a lunch in the main hotel. The evening dinner for 150 was held in the conference centre turned into a restaurant. Unisex toilets (not enough for a mainly female group).i

Wonderful location, pretty helpful staff, interesting building with beautiful details. Great breakfast. It was pretty warm during our stay, 78 and humid. The air-con was not functioning. I find this inexcusable in a 5-star property at this price level. The church bell, obnoxiously loud until past 11 pm, made for a night’s sleep that was not 5-star. My clients asked for a fan, it was never delivered with no explanation. Pool would have been nice to use on this very warm day. It was closed and the explanation was that a storm a few days ago made it dirty. I really expect more from a 5-star.
