A backhand gesture of an apology

On arrival my colleague and myself found the bathroom not cleaned to an acceptable level. There was paper on the floor and both the bath and basin drains had hair in it. Additionally there were a couple of pubic hairs on the bath soap dish. We notified a staff member and asked for the bathroom to be cleaned again. On return to our room that evening only the piece of paper had been picked up. Not attempt was made to clean the bath and basin plug. We were offered a new room but having had a long day travelling from South Wales and having already unpacked we weren't feeling up to it. The receptionist offered us a complimentary drink. When trying to order a drink at the bar we were unable to have a G&T. This was very disappointing for my colleague as she doesn't drink wine or beer. I believe that if you are offered a complimentary drink as an apology then you should be able to have a drink of your choice. This is a backhanded apology

Our over all stay was good, the hotel is convenient and the rooms warm and clean, however we were there for a leisure break and the pool was extremely cold.

The bathroom in the room was tired and needed up-grading. Insufficient numbers of staff on reception when most people were trying to book in, hence long queues which were not helped by the receptionist talking unnecessarily to the customers.......great when there is noone else waiting but with a long queue this is just annoying.
