Apollo1961 Friends getaway - TripAdvisor review

So it’s difficult to give a five star rating, just based on the fact that the hotel is looking a little weary in places. The food we ate for dinner, in one of the VIP pods, was excellent and we all thought it was value for money. The pod is a brilliant idea, beautifully decorated and well equipped with climate control and music. But the biggest and best feature of the hotel would have to be the staff everyone was warm and welcoming. We were served our dinner by a delightful young man named Zeke (sorry if that’s not the correct spelling). He was attentive, professional and great fun. Only adding to the overall experience. Yes, there are things that could be improved, but without the right staff it would mean nothing.

Mar1970 Friends getaway - TripAdvisor review

Arrived and went to reception where we met Zeek ,our host. He walked us to our pod for our afternoon tea. Lovely, spacious ,autumnal decorated pod with heating, music playing which you can download your own onto. Endless tea & coffee arrived,then the food,one of which was Gluten Free. Plenty of GF choice which was amazing. Sandwiches were cheese n pickle, ham, egg & tuna. A selection of sweet delights and one scone( very nice,warm..would have loved two). Zeek was lovely and checked on us regularly. We weren't rushed and had plenty to eat and drink. Pod was cosy and made tge tea feel special. (Only disappointment were the awful toilets near reception. Outdated and dirty,not a great first impression of the place)

Plenty of car parking, nice grounds, very pleasant staff, nothing seemed too much trouble. Clean and spotless rooms and all accessories either in room or you can ask for them, I.e. sewing kit, shower cap etc. Very good breakfast and varied choice for dinner.

Stayed for two nights. At dinner on the first night one starter and three main courses were unavailable. We dined at 8.00 pm and a coach party was already in the dining room. I assume the chef/kitchen hadn't made provision for the number of diners. My salt and pepper squid was overcooked and hard. Soft furnishings in public areas and carpets throughout the building are soiled/stained. Linens were white. One towel had a hole in it. Lumpy pillows. Not the most comfortable of beds. Hotel is tired. Staff were efficient and friendly.

We were given a room on 3rd floor which we found inconvenient with no lift access. Only alternative was a room at the back of hotel which we were informed was noisy. Nothing to do in the evenings. Decor was minimalistic. No atmosphere. Staff were helpful and friendly.
