Lovely as always however the air con in the room wasn't working, got moved to another room and on the last night the aircon also went into fault. Apart from this it was as good as usual. Friendly and accommodating staff.

Well located, very underwhelming room!

Fantastic location however the shower leaked in our room. When we reported it on the 2nd day before our 2nd night at the hotel they said that it would rectified for us. Unfortunately it wasn’t rectified at all! Would have preferred to have just been moved to a different room. Also some strange looking stains on the floor which was disappointing. £30 was refunded to us for our parking but hardly a fantastic resolution when paying over £300 for 2 nights.

Always something happening, buzzy area of Bristol

Room 107 was clean, big and spacious if a bit soulless. Grim air conditioner could do with a good clean as windows are shut for security purposes. And doesn't look like it is ever cleaned. Stay marred by no cleaning - because of the pandemic and we have stayed in 4 hotels since March 2020 without this being an issue and it seems convenient that there is no daily room cleaning. Stay also ruined by receiving a parking ticket 10 days after our stay despite assurances the hotel had recorded the car registration number and we paid the £15 daily charge when we paid on check-in. Breakfast was great for the egg, bacon, processed food brigade and the healthy options do include fruit but disappointing no plain yoghurt - toffee flavour so not good if you wanted something as simple and unprocessed as possible. Coffee machine broken not good for caffeine addicts. Our stay also coincided with the West Country Anime show so it. was very busy with lots of interesting characters. The area at the weekend had antique stalls, a good range of restaurants and bars and lots going on. Staff doing their best in a busy time, maybe they are understaffed and over stretched. I called before the stay and no one answered the phone. Post visit when I called to sort out the parking issue I spoke to Bermatt (apologies if I have spelt the name wrong) the reception supervisor who promised once I emailed the information it would be resolved in 3 days. Fingers crossed.

Overshadowed by Comic Con event.

We booked a suite at the Grand for the night before and after our wedding. The room was lovely, clean and spacious, the perfect place to get ready on the morning of my wedding. However, at no point were we informed that at Comic convention was taking over the hotel for the weekend. It was very loud, and very busy. When we arrived we were surrounded in guests on fancy dress which really scared my young daughter. A heads up would have been good.

Trip combined of four adults in one double and one twin room. The rooms were clean but the double bed was uncomfortable. I paid £209 for the twin room, the double room was booked as a red letter gift that was originally for a different experience but was withdrawn. I did not feel the Twin room was good value due it being a small room, chipped paint and an awful threadbare stain on the carpet, not sure what it was. The breakfast was good the staff were really friendly, polite and helpful. But not a 4 star.

Good room but restaurant appearance is so basic it looks awful.

Hi there, Thanks for your time reviewing us. We are glad to hear that overall you liked our hotel and thanks for your feedback. We hear what you've said and do take guests' opinions into consideration when making changes. Our hotel has lots of great history and our decor is aimed to be classic yet contemporary and we know its uniqueness may not always be to everyone's taste. Many thanks for telling us your opinion though. We hope you'll be back to see us. Take care, Michael, General Manager

James H. Families - 02/09/2021 Confirmed reviews ALL

We chose this hotel as a special break for our anniversary, but my wife and I were very disappointed. I’ll start with the positives though. The staff are fantastic. It feels like they’re stuck working for somewhere which needs to improve its game, as they all seemed genuinely horrified by complaints but also somewhat used to it. Layton, Valentina, Alex and Bernie especially were all fabulous and did everything within their power to improve our stay. The rooms felt tired and in dire need of renovation - paint chips, cracks in plaster throughout. Our special requests were missed/misunderstood (Sofa bed instead of cot for 2 year old). Our room especially felt like it was used previously and the sheets were changed - only one water glass, no bath mat and no bath robes…worst of all though, our daughter started eating the crisps which were left on the floor, under the bed. When we folded the sofa bed away it revealed a huge stain on the sofa itself. We changed room the next day, which was much better (but we still found crisps on the floor!) We were given comp breakfast, a drink each and our parking was refunded but overall we left somewhat disappointed - we decided to splurge for our anniversary on the suite and we won’t be choosing this hotel again. We considered leaving there and then. The fact is, under normal circumstances this isn’t good enough but especially with Covid we couldn’t help but wonder what else was missed…

Hi James, Thanks for telling us about your recent stay with us. We are very pleased to hear that our team was so helpful and professional and will be sure to pass on your kind comments to Layton, Valentina, Alex, and Bernie in particular. Whilst an apology will sadly not alter what happened on this occasion, we do offer it with all sincerity as we evidently fell short of our normal high standards. Although we wish things had been different, it's feedback like this that we learn from and use to up our game. Your comments will be investigated so that we can do our best to get it right in the future. We truly hope to be able to welcome you back so that we can make it up to you. Take care, Michael, General Manager

Broken things and process all over the hotel. Extremely disappointed with the stay, the cleanliness and the standard. I wont use the hotel again.

We have taken careful note of all your comments and rest assured they will be addressed with our team. We hope to be able to welcome you back on a return visit for an improved experience. Room was well appointed and clean. Very thin walls did result in noise from other rooms heard clearly. Breakfast was basic, more care could have been given to the hot buffet items. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Hi Mike, Thank you for taking the time to let us know your opinion of your recent stay. It is great to know that our city-centre location worked well for you and that our team did a good job in looking after you. Your feedback is really important to us, we have listened to your comment about our breakfast and will certainly give it some thought. We're disappointed to hear that you were disturbed, always let us know of any issues; we'll do our best to sort it out quickly. Please come back and see us on a future occasion. Very well located, the rooms were clean and spacious. Couldn't fault the stay one bit. Also loved that check in was at midday as opposed to 10am, it makes all the difference!

Hi Adam, Thank you very much for your kind review. We are very pleased that your stay with us merited a big "thumbs up!" We look forward to seeing you again in the future. Best wishes, Michael, General Manager

Richard Families - 01/09/2021 Confirmed reviews ALL

We stayed at the Grand Hotel Bristol for four nights at the end of August. We had decided to upgrade to a suite, but we found the room to have only been superficially clean. Even though we requested additional cleaning, it was only on the fourth day of our stay that this was actually done, although only the beds were made and the towels were replaced. The room was not hoovered, nor where any of the tea/coffee or mini bar contents replaced. In addition, one of the main reasons for choosing the hotel was the swimming pool. Upon arrival, we were notified that the Pool was closed due to 'Covid' even though this was no where mentioned on the hotel website at the time of booking and the fact that with protocols now lifted in England and leisure centre pools now open again, it wasn't clear why this should be the case.

Hi Richard, Thanks a lot for taking the time to share your review. We're pleased to hear that you found our location suited you, but we're sorry that not everything lived up to your expectations, and we can assure you this will be addressed. Our pool is no longer in use and we do not advertise it as an amenity but it is proving difficult to remove photographs from other internet sites. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back on another occasion. With very best wishes, Michael, General Manager

We arrived and had not been told about the gaming conference that was taking place and wanted to go to the bar and have a drink to relax when arrived. Also the room was dusty the paint worked chipped and we found hairs in the bath and on the floor in the bathroom. The room smelt of awful spices, which we were told was an upgraded room. Not too sure about that?

Rooms are not cleaned if you stay for less than 5 days. Despite asking repeatedly for bins to be emptied, fresh towels, loo rolls, tea and coffee, I had to go myself to the reception after a long day at work so ask for them only to be greeted with indifference. Similarly the restaurant was barely functioning and food cold/ poor quality. Staff were smoking outside the front of the building throughout my stay.

SQUIZZLE25 22/07/2021 TripAdvisor review

This hotel is in a great location. Only a 5 minute walk leads you to the river which is lined with loads of restaurants and bars. The room itself was lovely and stylish - although the walls do need a refresh as there were a few marks in places. Unfortunately we were in a room right next to a generator which made a bit of noise during the night. I expect as we booked last minute that's why we were placed in that room which is understandable, however luckily we did still manage to sleep quite well in the very comfortable bed. Each member of staff we dealt with were very helpful, professional and friendly. We really enjoyed our stay and would happily return.

Good service as always. Been staying here for the past couple of months. Have been upgraded on occasions as well, which has been nice. Will be soon a gold member so will be expecting regular upgrades which will be reported on.

Alyson P 05/08/2020 TripAdvisor review

Whilst I totally understand the challenges in the current climate, I feel customers should have been made aware of of amendments to specific services prior to booking so they can make an informed decision as to whether to book. -The take away breakfast was not highlighted until check in and certainly not worth the money. I would have booked room only and made alternative arrangements -hiding the bar opening hours (5pm -9pm)in a QR code not available until you’re in your room wasn’t helpful. Even then, in amongst all the other information, I didn’t notice the closing time. It also didn’t state that there was a very reduced range of beverages. We had arranged to meet family at 8pm in the bar, this was the actual reason for our visit. Again we would have made alternative arrangements had we known. - bar staff not highlighting that the bar was closing at all. We went to order a round of drinks to be informed that the bar was closed. Not in the least customer friendly. In all we were made to feel like an inconvenience. This could have been avoided if the website had stated that there was no reception/lounge seating areas, takeaway pre packed breakfast only and very limited bar service. None of these are deal breakers but allow customers to plan their stay accordingly.
