The hotel is in a great location and that’s about it. Super dated bathroom with the floor pulling up and squeezed into a tiny room that was basically just a bed! No room for two people to get ready. They put us directly next to the fire doors which just banged all night constantly waking us up as people came and went. The wall are so thin you can hear everything that goes on, in and out of the hotel. Must be single pane windows because the seagulls sounded like they were in bed with us. Disgusting smell in the corridor like sewage which came into the room at times. Dirty linen. Lifts take ages to get you to your floor. Not worth it.

Dissapointing

Disappointing Stay – Multiple Issues I recently stayed at the Mercure and unfortunately, the experience did not meet expectations due to a series of issues: 1. Noise: The walls were so thin that I could hear conversations from neighboring rooms, making it hard to relax. 2. Room Cleanliness: There were visible stains on the carpet, which impacted the room’s overall appearance and cleanliness. 3. Unexpected Disturbances: Birds chirping outside the window, while pleasant to some, became a repeated and unwelcome distraction. 4. Uncomfortable Sleep: The mattress was uncomfortable, resulting in poor sleep quality. 5. Safety Concerns: There was unused copper pipework protruding from the floor, posing a potential hazard. 6. Odor Issue: A persistent sewage odor lingered in the corridor, which was both unpleasant and concerning. 7. Extra Charges: I was charged £8.50 for a room service delivery up a few flights of stairs, which felt excessive. 8. Limited Entertainment: The room’s TV wasn’t connected to WiFi, limiting its functionality and entertainment options. 9. Heating Problems: There was no central heating—only a portable oil radiator, which was insufficient. 10. Illogical Fixture: A lamp was placed in a corner without a nearby socket, making it effectively unusable. These issues collectively made for an uncomfortable stay. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a hassle-free experience.

No heating or hot water!

No heating- but unlike other travellers I wasn’t advised on check in of the known, ongoing heating issues- the plug in heaters helped but weren’t ideal. However the stay was really impacted by no hot water in the morning. The staff had no interest in the lack of hot water and inability to shower. The lack lustre “sorry” left a bitter taste for what has been a previously chosen hotel.

Hello Catherine, Thanks for taking the time to share your review. It's quite a pickle to hear about your chilly adventure with us, and even more so that your morning routine was disrupted by the absence of hot water. While we do have extra heaters and fans to keep you cozy, it seems they weren't quite the knights in shining armor we'd hoped for. Rest assured, our team is always on a quest to ensure every guest's stay is comfortable, even when unexpected challenges arise. Though it seems we missed the mark on keeping you informed, we're tightening our laces to ensure better communication in the future. We're also a wee bit surprised about the hot water hiccup as our taps usually gush the warmth of Bristol's hospitality. Our staff is generally known for their keen interest in our guests' comfort, so it's quite unusual that you felt your concerns went unnoticed. We'll be sure to remind our team that every 'sorry' should be served with the sincerity of a heartfelt homemade pie. We hope that you will return in the future for a more enjoyable stay. Take care, Karl Goebel, General Manager

On checking in was told I couldn’t get my points. Bed was very uncomfortable - I could feel the springs and pillows were not great. Won’t be staying again. Walls were very thin which was not good when the couple next door were having lots fun until 3am

Hi there, Thanks for taking the time to review your stay. It's disheartening to hear that your slumber was less than stellar; we pride ourselves on the comfort of our beds, with recent mattresses from 2018 aiming to ensure a good night's rest. It seems we missed the mark during your stay, and for that, I'm genuinely sorry. Additionally, the symphony of city life can sometimes creep into the quieter moments, despite our efforts with soundproofing and complimentary earplugs for a peaceful evening—though it appears the neighboring chorus was unexpectedly lively. Rest assured, your feedback is taken to heart as we continually strive to create tranquil oases for all our guests. We hope that you will return in the future for a more enjoyable stay. Take care, Karl Goebel, General Manager

Not much grand about this hotel.

Elizabeth N TripAdvisor review

Sadly there isn't that much about this hotel that I would call grand. On check-in I was advised that there were heating issues. On day 1, my room was ok, but the second night I was so cold I couldn't sleep and no point asking for a heater as my colleague had asked twice for one and not got it. The bed wasn't comfortable at all which also made it difficult to sleep and the whole place just looked rather tired. The 'overhead' shower had a hose so short that it was more of an 'overshoulder' shower- not ideal when you want to wash your hair and I'm not even that tall so heaven help anyone who is over 5' 6"! Only redeeming features were that my room was clean and the breakfast was decent. Restaurant staff were also friendly. On check-out the staff didn't even bother to ask how my stay had been, which sums it up as they clearly had a good idea of how my stay had been and didn't want to get my answer!

Hello Elizabethnm, Thanks for taking the time to share your review. It's great to hear that you found your room clean and enjoyed our breakfast – our team always aims to provide a delightful dining experience! And a shout-out to our friendly restaurant staff who made your meal times pleasant. It seems we've missed the mark in other areas, and for that, we're genuinely sorry. While it's rare, sometimes our heaters do act up, but we're always on hand to make you comfortable. If you were chilly, we'd have been more than happy to provide extra warmth. It's also concerning to hear about the shower hose length; we'll look into that to make sure it's not a stretch for our future guests. As for the beds, our mattresses are quite new, but we understand that comfort is subjective, and we're sorry you didn't find it snug. On the upside, we're glad that the quietness of your room allowed for some serenity during your stay. We hope that you will return in the future for a more enjoyable stay. Take care, Karl Goebel, General Manager
