Shabby, dark ‘suite’

TripAdvisor rating 2.0/5

glothorn Couples - TripAdvisor review

We upgraded to a ‘suite’ for an extra £30 for the night but sadly this decision didn’t really pay off. The room did have a sitting area but the two windows were tiny and the lighting poor which made the whole place feel very dark. This may have been a blessing though as it made the multiple nasty stains on the carpet in all spaces less noticeable. It was also very near the elevator and from 6am this was very busy and noisy. On the plus side there was a mini fridge with complimentary soft drinks and a good amount of sundries to make hot drinks. We bought 2 drinks at the bar on arrival and were charged a 90p service charge! The hotel is ideally placed for exploring the offerings of Bristol city centre, which is probably the reason for the price they charge - it’s certainly not for the quality of the rooms! We will probably look elsewhere next time we stay in Bristol

I read some unpleasant reviews before staying so was concerned about the booking but was very pleasantly surprised on arrival. The staff were friendly and helpful, the room and facilities were clean and breakfast was great. We had a drink in the bar but didn't eat there so can't comment on the food. The carpark isn't great, it's small dingy and there was a lot of litter in the stairways but this wouldn't put me off staying again. We stayed on a Sunday night and there were no events on. I wonder if the noise situation might be slightly different if there was a function taking place.

Hi there, Thanks so much for taking the time to share your experience with us! It's fantastic to hear that our team made a good impression and that our clean facilities and delicious breakfast added to your stay. We're proud of our historic hotel and glad our efforts to provide a great guest experience shone through for you. We're sorry to hear the car park didn't meet your expectations; we're always looking at ways to improve every aspect of our hotel. Rest assured, we'll take a closer look at this area. Your suggestion for more hot vegetarian/vegan options has been noted and we appreciate you bringing it to our attention. We would be delighted to welcome you back for another stay soon. Cheers, Mahesh, General Manager

Could Have Been Better

Mark J. Families - Confirmed reviews ALL

I have stayed in the hotel on business several times before but this was a visit to Bristol with my wife to visit our daughters who live here. The parking was terrible, my wife and daughter had to walk through a corridor of urine to the staircase as the lift wasn't working to be greeted by a homeless man asleep on the floor. If that had been my wife by herself or my Mother In Law who can't do that many stairs it would have been both scary and or impossible. The stench was appalling. The hotel and staff were as usual fine but my wife's reaction was we wouldn't stay again.

Hello Mark! Thanks for your feedback. It's great to hear that you found our hotel and staff to your liking; we're really proud of our team here and the service they provide. Our Keepers Bar & Kitchen always aims to serve up delightful British meals, and it's reassuring to know that we've hit the mark for you. On the other hand, I'm really sorry to hear about the parking situation you encountered. We strive to maintain a welcoming and clean environment, so what you've described is certainly not up to our standards. Rest assured, we're looking into this to ensure it remains an isolated issue and that our lift service is consistent and reliable for all guests. We hope to welcome you back. Best wishes, Mahesh, General Manager

Disappointed

I am currently in my hotel room . I booked a ‘quiet room’ . Last night, I experienced a screaming porn show from the room next door , it was quite a performance. Following that , the couple laughed and shouted for another hour, concluding at 2am. I am now in my ‘quiet room ‘ as I type this and there is music pumping out loudly from somewhere in the hotel . If I wasn’t so tired right now I would drive myself back to London! Speaking of driving , the car that the hotel advertises is actually the public car park next door and you will be charged £17 per night !

Hi Walker, Thanks for leaving us this review of your recent stay. It seems you had some trouble with noise during your stay, and for that, we're truly sorry. As for the parking, we're sorry if there was any confusion; the car park indeed operates independently next to us with its own fees. We strive to ensure our communications about parking are crystal clear. We hope you'll give us another chance to provide a better experience in the future. Take care, Mahesh, General Manager
