Shame about the pillows and mattress

TripAdvisor rating 3.0/5

Della R TripAdvisor review

The room was tiny but functional, with the smallest bathroom i have ever seen. Bathroom was a bit 'tight' due to the size, but was nice and clean. Brilliant blackout curtains in the room which was great. Mattress was a bit hard (probably due replacing) and the pillows were old, and flat. I asked for some better pillows and was told they are all the same. After 2 nights sleeping on them, i have come home with a sore neck. Staff were really good. Not a bad stay, but not sure it warrants 4*.

Dismal and depressing

Terrible, sad, old and dirty. Understaffed, those who are there mostly do what they can though. The hotel is completely abandoned and that is unacceptable, being part of the Mercure chain. We stayed in 2 rooms, 130 and 132. Specifically 130, supposedly a Privilege King room: the dirtiest carpet I have ever seen. Dark walls with disgusting stains near the bed. There is hardly any lighting, you cannot do anything comfortably in the room, the television is in an extremely uncomfortable position. The view from room 130 is of a low sloping roof, literally attached to the building and the window of a house that can see into your room. 132 is a standard twin, see the photo of the "view" from that room, because there are no words to describe it, the image speaks for itself and summarises our stay. This room has marginally better lighting, but with the 2 beds you can't even open the door properly. Unthinkable that this is a 4 star hotel. Don't trust their photos of rooms. The lobby is decent though. We did not eat breakfast, so cannot comment on food. I wouldn't go back to this hotel even for free. Low pillows, but very hard. Very uncomfortable. I didn't sleep.

Excellent!

Really welcoming and spacious. Room very clean and quiet. Customer service excellent throughout the stay with staff going the extra mile to help make sure the stay and meeting space were as needed. Great selection and choice at breakfast too.

Sorry to say I have nothing positive to say

chrisgilbane Business - TripAdvisor review

Stopped over at this hotel unexpectedly following a train cancellation, at a price of nearly 200 for the night this hotel is nothing less than very poor. My room was tired and shabby with stains on the carpet and chips on the furniture. The bed was uncomfortable. The room was noisy. The bathroom had seen better days. And yes I could have said something and seen if a better room was available but it had been a long day and I just wanted to eat, sleep and get out on an early train When I tried to get a beer at 10.30 the bar had shut. The TV had very few channels on it to watch. Buffet breakfast the next morning was like warm to borderline cold (I didn't say anything I had a train to catch and needed to eat and go) Don't be fooled by how this hotel presents itself. Although I am rarely in Bristol for work, should that be the case in the future I will not be staying here again

well located
