I stayed for three nights and used the car park. I particularly use this hotel because of the parking. As a single woman, you will appreciate that I and any other women can be very nervous of returning to a hotel after dark and having to look for a car parking space on the road or in a multistorey car park. To be able to park close to a back door and get straight in is an absolute bonus. The facilities were clean and the room was spacious, as usual.

Members of staff were reduced in number due to covid restrictions, however safety measures did not impede the usual friendly efficiency of all team members. I would single out Mr Patrik Krivak, the Acting General Manager, who always seems to be on hand with a friendly greeting, being aware of any personal preferences that individuals may have. He appears all around the hotel performing various tasks, and has a knack of solving potential situations, before they become a problem.

We were very dissatisfied with our stay at the Mercure. we payed extra to book the most premium room they had as we had busy days and wanted to get a good nights sleep. Although the room was nice, unfortunately it was so so cold that neither of us could sleep all night. It was obvious that the room had not been used for ages and had not been bothered to be heated up before our arrival. We were given a small fan heater which alternatively gave out cold and warm air so wasn’t much use. The bathroom was so cold that it became difficult to even take a shower. The heating in the room was one of the loudest of any hotel I have ever stayed in. All this made it difficult to sleep. Our whole morning was delayed because of these issues and the poor sleep we had, and we were charged for a late check-out. The staff were friendly, but all the reasons above were more than enough to make sure we don’t book here again.

Location great for where I needed to be

I had to move rooms after the first night as I didn't have any hot water in the bathroom, 2nd room I moved to was ok but by time of leaving 2 bulbs were out in the bathroom one over the shower so not great but usable. Staff really pleasant and helpful, no quibbles about moving rooms. One thing in my opinion you need to look at is giving your cleaning staff more time to clean rooms once back to normal (or it would have been prime opportunity to get them back up to scratch whilst quiet), it has been my biggest complaint ever since staying with you and I actally go to Premier Inn out of town out of preference as its cleaner than your hotel. When was the last time your Hotel Manager looked in a room, I mean really looked in a room? go look in the fridges, every single one where I have stayed in privilege room in the last 4 years, look at the top tray (usually crud in it, look at the fridge handle usually crumbs in it). Look at the lovely panelling you have in the rooms, look at the ledges in the design (filthy with dust), look in the showers (the mildew in the silicone). Look at the bathroom doors, when was the last time they were cleaned (every room I've stayed in has some kind of spill down it) Just a few extra bits kept an eye on would make a huge difference to someones stay. Your hotel is a great location with added benefit of restaurant, gym and pool, but in all the time Ive stayed with you I have never been brave enough to use the pool because of the cleanliness of the rooms as if the rooms are like this, what are the changing rooms for the pool going to be like... and I love swimming. Someone just needs to give the hotel a bit of a love and care, because you could be a fabulous place to stay.

Despite Lockdown restrictions my 2 night stay was satisfactory. I have stayed at the Holland House on several occasions over the last 3 years. I was surprised at the fact that the neighbouring room was occupied when the hotel was almost empty. Noise is the enemy of all hotel guests, the decision to place guests into adjoining rooms is at best inconsiderate! I am sure you can do better.

A bit underwhelming

The hotel is an excellent location, close enough to walk to the harbourside and Cabot circus but far enough away to not suffer from noise. There was plenty of parking available as well. Slightly disappointed to learn the swimming pool was shut when we checked in as it was not mentioned at all on the app whilst booking. I understand why but it would of been nice to know. As this was our first trip this year due to vovid, I upgraded to a privilege room. Unfortunately we found the bathroom door extremely hard to open and close, a leaking shower cubicle, the flush was difficult to operate and the towel rail was broken. Due to a reduction in cleaning the tea / coffee facilities were not replenished and neither was the mini fridge so we had to buy ecmxtra stuff ourselves. Not a great hardship but when I paid over £50 extra for the upgrade it certainly wasn't worth it this time.

We have removed pictures and mention of the pool so there is no confusion about it being open. My apologies the bathroom door and toilet flush was difficult to operate.
