overall happy. the swimming pool was closed for refurbisment without notice to the guests so I can't comment on the spa and pool facilities. Nice and clean on arrival and It may have been in the small print but there was no cleaning or new towels provided in the three days we we're at the hotel.

Very good location.

Hen party ruined

Customer review rating 1.5/5

Maria G. Friends - 01/08/2021 Confirmed reviews ALL

I booked the hotel suite for myself and my friend who's hen party it was. I arranged the hen as maid of honor and recommended to a group of 15 women to book a room with yourself. I recommend we stay with your company due to finding mecure a fantastic hotel experience in the past. We could not check into our rooms until 5.30, so long after the advertised check in time on your website. Your receptionist was not understanding in the slightest and was very rude informing me that they were short staffed and there was nothing she could do. This ruined the hen as we were on a timed scheduled of activities and we were supposed to be having a social gathering in the suite with a paid butler in the buff. The butler arrived and we couldn't use him due to not having the room. The bride to be could not get dressed and ready for her hen meal out so we missed our table booking in The Ivy. We spend ages queue only to be informed again the room was not available. Most of the girls with me couldn't check in either until around half 5 bearing in mind we arrived at the hotel in the morning. Some of the girls were able to check in before me as they had standard rooms but the receptionist informed me that due to me having the suite there is less of them so I'd have to wait longer. That's a terrible way to treat loyal customers who pay higher for your best room. On top of this when I asked your members of staff to call a taxi for us they declined stating taxis by phone wouldn't be reliable and we should book ubers ourselves. I personally felt this was an excuse due to them being busy. I've never been declined help at a hotel before. None of us had the uber app so we spendt alot of time trying to work out how to set it up without any help from the hotel. The whole experience was awful and I'm so gutted we stayed with you as it ruined the hen. Your bar tender however was fantastic, really understanding and provided excellent customer services. Please pass on my compliments to him. In the end when I spoke to your team, they gave me a free drink voucher at the bar and reduced to my room from £200 to £150. £25 each off which doesn't seem proportionate to the fact that we lost a good few hours of time in the suite. Also this does not cover the amount of money we lost in bookings and doesn't make up for the fact that the hen was a shambles due to queueing hours to get a room which made us behind shceudle, missed bookings and with terrible attitude from your receptionist. I'm so disappointed.

Ideally situated

The staff where all kind, courteous and helpful. The thing that should be pointed out is the overnight parking fees which can add a fair percentage to your overall cost.

My favourite hotel in Bristol

I've been using the Mercure Holland House for the last 15 years when I visit Bristol. The rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable. The staff are very friendly. Breakfast is always good. The location is also great fro getting to Harbourside for food and drink and seeing the sights.

Will not be staying again

Very poor room quality , toilet difficult to flush , no extractor fan in bathroom , fridge didn’t work , kettle full of limescale , only 1 pillow per person , very poor cleanliness especially seeing as a deep clean should have been done before reopening thick layer of dust on top of wardrobe , floor not hoovered properly dirt still under chair etc , no dressing table very difficult to do make up and hair will not be staying again and will not recommend to friends or family . Very dissatisfied as we usually stay at this hotel when we visit Bristol .

Nice stay let down by cost cutting

I originally chose this hotel due to its location and its swimming pool. However, when we booked it the website did not notify us that the swimming pool was closed which was a huge disappointment. Our room was not cleaned during our stay, if this is hotel policy it would have been preferred for the receptionist to tell us this or ask for our preference in if we would like the room to be cleaned. We had to contact reception to get our towels replaced despite a sign on the bathroom wall saying we could leave them to be replaced in the shower basin. The shower gel and shampoo provided were just enough for two people for two nights. The hairdryer was too small and cold to be useful. The whatsapp chat was unresponsive and we had to contact reception by phone anyway several times. The room and bathroom in the classic double room were a nice size for two people and the bed was very comfortable; we both slept well. The room was well air conditioned and we had a nice view of Bristol from the 4th floor. The staff were very friendly, despite us having to queue up for most queries. We couldn't book breakfast for the sunday morning as it was full, but the monday morning breakfast was lovely. The TV was slightly outdated and did not turn on using the power button. Wifi was free and easy to connect to. We were allowed to leave our cases in the hotel after check out and there was no hassle at either end of this process. For future bookings, I would like to see Mercure be honest about what they are providing on their website as well as reducing the room prize when they are clearly cutting corners.

Where do I begin? We arrived at the hotel the manager was at reception our upgraded room wasn't available even though I had called the day before to confirm it was. We were placed in a different room it smelt damp, toilet didn't flush. The pool was closed which I wasn't notified about before the stay we booked this hotel for the pool as we had young children. The manager and receptionist working were extremely rude, no towel or sheet changes on any days we were there. The room was dirty, bottles of alcohol were lying over the wardrobe and cigarette boxes were under the bed. We have stayed at many Accor hotels and this was by far the worst. They didn't respond to the WhatsApp service either even though that is in place to help with covid regulations. Seriously do your research and look at reviews if I had done this before I wouldn't have wasted my money on this hotel

Great location lovely big room.

I booked the hotel for my 50th birthday. Our room was lovely . The duty manager kindly sorted an early check in for me. The a.c. did not work well which was a shame as the windows don't open! The bathrooms could do with ventilation.

Disappointed that the pool was not open and we were not notified prior to arrival. Also some maintenance work appeared to be going on at 5am on a Sunday morning.

Great room. Hard working staff. Not enough staff as the pool was out of action. I'd only booked here for the pool and it wasn't available to use.

I’ve been staying here on and off for the last 15 years for both business and pleasure. Anytime I’m in the Bristol area this is definitely my first choice. Nice spacious rooms, some with lovely views, friendly staff, very nice breakfast. Also really close to harbourside with the bars and eateries.

Well located and had a lovely stay. Good to be back.

It was nice to be back at the hotel, but our room wasn’t cleaned, but reception took care of it, and upgraded room was available. Nothing too much trouble, and we enjoyed our stay.

I stayed one night when travelling back from holiday. The hotel was nice and clean and staff were very friendly and professional. It is in a very good central location and appeared to originally be an office block in its former life. I managed to get an upgrade but could not tell the difference from the room I originally booked. Breakfast was excellent and plentiful. Overnight car parking was £15 which I thought was excessive but perhaps typical for central Bristol.

The receptionist was vary helpful, top marks for her. The room was clean, however we only had one hand towel, no milk for tea and coffee. Our room was cleaned on day two, however the plug was stuck in the sink so we couldn't use the sink, it took an hour for someone to come and investigate a took a second visit to free it, the whole thing took about two hours to sort out, NOT GOOD!!. Also the bar shuts at 11; why, it's a hotel.

A bit underwhelming

The hotel is an excellent location, close enough to walk to the harbourside and Cabot circus but far enough away to not suffer from noise. There was plenty of parking available as well. Slightly disappointed to learn the swimming pool was shut when we checked in as it was not mentioned at all on the app whilst booking. I understand why but it would of been nice to know. As this was our first trip this year due to vovid, I upgraded to a privilege room. Unfortunately we found the bathroom door extremely hard to open and close, a leaking shower cubicle, the flush was difficult to operate and the towel rail was broken. Due to a reduction in cleaning the tea / coffee facilities were not replenished and neither was the mini fridge so we had to buy ecmxtra stuff ourselves. Not a great hardship but when I paid over £50 extra for the upgrade it certainly wasn't worth it this time.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. I was pleased to read that our location was good for you and there was plenty of parking. We have removed pictures and mention of the pool so there is no confusion about it being open. My apologies the bathroom door and toilet flush was difficult to operate. I note your comments about the tea/coffee which can be replenished on request for guests staying longer than 1 night. Thank you again for taking the time to leave your feedback. regards Chris

My and my wife stayed at this hotel for three nights, we found the hotel was kept to a good clean standard, All the staff we met we’re very polite and helpful, we were lucky enough to have one of the junior suite which was very spacious and comfortable, the breakfast was very good and so was the evening meals we had, the only downside was the choice of drinks at the bar they were out of a lot of the beers and not much left to choose them but I was told there were waiting on a delivery, I would definitely use this hotel again when we visit Bristol next time.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. I was pleased to read that you found the hotel clean, the staff polite, the breakfast and evening meals were good. I am sorry we didnt have our full range of beers available. It is the case that we try to ensure we have plenty of stock without over stocking and occasionally we get caught out, again my apologies form this. Thank you again for you time and feedback.
