For almost £200 per night i was very disappointed, i have stayed many times and love the hotel but this time the room I had, had a badly stained bath, peeling wallpaper everywhere and stains of something that had been spilled and ran down the wall. I tripped in the porch because it had no light and emailed the staff to let them know, they will see it on their cctv, and that perhaps they needed to address this as it is dangerous and no one has even replied. I am not a complainer but think as a good customer i deserved at least a courtesy email. Now it is not all bad… you get such a warm welcome, Food is amazing as always and the staff are absolutely wonderful. They cannot do enough for you. I had my little dogs with me and someone complained that they barked at 11am!!!! It wasn’t the middle of the night, I was in the shower and a delivery van was outside our window and they reacted. I laughed as the night prior we had absolutely no sleep at all because two guests decided to have a row outside my room for two hours and the wee pets never made a sound, and there was a wedding that went on half the night that other guests complained loudly about and the dogs again were as good as gold, but it is a hotel, in July, they are going to have a weekend wedding and you know this when you book.

Chose the mercure hotel based on location. Located close to a wedding function I was attending. Hotel grounds well maintained, friendly reception/restaurant staff. Breakfast was ok good selection of food. Room below standard not worth the rate. Expected a better standard of room. Stayed in a twin room, walls require painting and the bathroom in need of an upgrade. The room was equipped to cater for anyone with a disability. Fortunately I don’t have a disability however, the bathroom sliding door was difficult to open and locked on the inside at one stage of my visit. Fortunately my friend opened the door from the other side. Not ideal to have a sliding door that’s is temperamental if you have a disability. It would be better to fit a standard door that opens/closes with a handle. There is a telephone in the bathroom for anyone requiring assistance. The pool is only available between 15.30pm to 18.30pm the opening times are advertised on the website. It does not offer guests the flexibility to use the pool outside of the opening hours. Due to restricted opening hours I was unable to make use of the pool with attending a wedding. A bit disappointing to have such restricted pool opening times. We ordered a taxi from the recommended by the hotel Streamline Taxis to attend a wedding function 2.8miles away from the mercure. The taxi driver attempted to charge £28 agreed to pay £20 for one way travelling at 18:00pm 2 guests. The driver quoted £35 for a return journey after 23.00pm. A well over priced and prepared to rip off customers. We did raise this with the hotel Extortionate and over charged after speaking to friends at the wedding. The room rate well over priced for the standards of the room. The room was below a premier inn standard room. I would not return as a guest to the hotel. I would have opted to stay at the premier inn but the rooms were fully booked
