Over the last 6 months I had several trips where I stayed at IBIS hotels, mainly in Japan. Marriott has gone insanely expensive. All the IBIS properties I stayed in were excellent value for money, great locations and maybe because it’s Japan, everyone was super friendly. Today I booked the IBIS Sheung Wan in Hong Kong and it is awful. Good location, great view from the 28th floor, but old and dated. Several people were struggling with the key cards in the elevator, including myself. The rooms and the hallways smell. I asked for an adapter - We don’t have adapters. No apology, not even a recommendation where I could buy one. I wanted to get two bottles of beer from the fridge near the bar and was told it’s more expensive if I buy from them. I should buy from reception - which was very busy. Worst of all, not a single person is friendly or smiles. Ever - whilst I was there. Come on guys. It’s hospitality! And all for USD 200 a night. Almost turns me off Accor for good. This is the expectations people have from IBIS hotels and I can’t imagine it’s a good business model. Don’t book. Iclub around the corner is better. Unfortunately they were full this time. I wonder why. 2 stars for the view.

For the card sensor in the elevators, we have not received prior reports of malfunctions, but our Engineering Team will investigate this issue. We usually receive positive comments about our staff and how helpful and friendly they are; however, I apologise that you were not met with this same expectation. I agree that our staff should have provided further information and assistance in acquiring an adapter. This is not the level of service we strive for and I have passed your comment to the service teams for improvement and to provide focused training to ensure that our standards are met. Once again, we apologise for the unpleasant experience you had.
