Dear Mondrian Hotel Management, I recently stayed at your hotel from November 7th to 11th, and I’d like to provide some feedback on both the positive and less favorable aspects of my experience. Upon check-in on November 7th at 12 p.m., I did not feel a particularly warm welcome from the front desk staff member who handled the check-in process. However, another team member—a helpful Filipino gentleman with silver braces—stood out with his excellent service. He assisted us with our luggage and helped us settle into our room later in the evening when it was ready, even assisting us with Wi-Fi setup, which was much appreciated. On the morning of November 8th, I realized I’d left a personal item at the Disney Explorers Lodge and requested assistance from the front desk to contact Disney for an update. I provided all the necessary details of my stay and mentioned that I could be reached via WhatsApp, as I did not have a local Hong Kong line. Later that evening, I checked back in with the staff, but I was simply informed again that "Disney will be in touch if they find it," with no new information. Additionally, on November 8th, I forgot my room key and asked a hotel staff member if they could help me access the lift to reach my floor, as my friend was in the room and could let me in. While I understand the need to verify my details, I ended up waiting nearly 10 minutes as the staff member issued a new room card instead of simply helping me access the lift. On November 10th, my departure date, I asked another staff member—a shorter Chinese gentleman with blonde hair—to check with Disney on the status of my lost item. He was very helpful and tried to keep me updated via WhatsApp. When the pillow was eventually delivered to Mondrian, he ensured it was brought up to my friend’s room, for which I am grateful. However, on November 11th at 5 a.m., my friend, who was checking out, experienced a rude interaction with a staff member. When asked about the pillow, my friend explained that it had already been delivered to her room the previous night. Instead of acknowledging this, the staff member remarked that she should have informed them that it was received, implying that she was at fault for the team’s lack of internal communication. Furthermore, despite seeing her waiting for her Uber, no assistance was offered with her luggage, which was disappointing. She also observed a noticeable difference in hospitality towards Caucasian tourists during her stay, which left a poor impression. Lastly, on November 12th, after returning to Hong Kong from Shenzhen, I stopped by Mondrian at 5:45 p.m. as my mobile data was low, and I needed to book an Uber to the airport. I was grateful that the staff allowed me to connect to the hotel Wi-Fi. The same Filipino staff member with silver braces once again went above and beyond by waiting outside with me, checking the car plate, and assisting with my luggage as I boarded my Uber. While I truly appreciated the attentiveness of some staff, such as the Filipino gentleman and the shorter Chinese staff member with blonde hair, I hope that these other service gaps can be addressed. Small improvements in communication and overall consistency in service across all staff members would greatly enhance the guest experience. For me, i am not returning to Mondrian anymore. Most of your staff were very pleasant except for 1 short, short haired female receptionist who was unfriendly and curt.
