Good Location BUT, the rooms are old and need a makeover the bathrooms were clean but old and poorly constructed in the first place, which now is easily seen in it current presentation.

We chose this accomodation due to its location which is very handy. This was our second stay at the Mecure. Our first stay was 12 years ago we loved the Fire place and lounge area which provided a cosy feel however unfortunately it stops there. Nothing has changed since our last stay , It seems tired and in need of an upgrade. the mattress was also uncomfortable .

Location central

Great stay only one thing that may need to be done. I checked in went to room very clean inside but when I went to balcony spider webs all around sliding door frame, I understand it’s country region but it would be easy to keep clean

average stay

Check in process was greeted with very friendly staff. Rooms were cozy but the beds not so comfortable. Lights in bathroom were flashing and the big shower head had only a few holes that weren't blocked. Other room had glass under in between the cushions on the lounge which casued a cut to the hand. Restaurant food was expensive and not very good. Steak was tough, having to have two courses was not ideal for choice and breakfast was very average. NO butter on sourdough, not asked how eggs would like to be cooked.

Very good location and view of the lake

From check in until departure we were looked after. We received a complimentary room upgrade. Enjoyed a short stroll to the Hunter Valley Gardens shops. Pre-dinner drinks in the bar where we played a game of pool and listened to the record player (LP vinyls) which you could choose yourself from a wide selection. Nice adjoining lounge area with fire. Dinner was enjoyable. Only downside to this was my husband's medium/rare steak was a little too rare and cold. Breakfast was good. Overall we enjoyed our stay. We have stayed here before and would definitely stay again.

Dear Simon Firstly thanks for taking the time to contact me regarding my stay at the Mercure. I have been contacted by Camille bardau ,a manager at the venue through TripAdvisor who informs me I have been blacklisted from the hotel due to my behaviour on the night. The absurdity of her response after reviewing the cctv and questioning her staff again makes me question what kind of operation is being run at this hotel. Regardless of what the cctv appears to show I will again submit : I was not intoxicated I was not threatening . However,There are always two sides to a situation like this and I will say that firstly the staff involved at the hotel had every right to Refuse to serve the alcohol requested if they choose to do so The point here though goes to the way we were refused service. If a customer cannot question the refusal of service without being threatened with removal by security or police what is going on. I will just make a few points here that perhaps gives more transparency to what occurred during the night in question. 1 I had asked for a drink neat, earlier in the evening before going out to eat I had been told I could not have one so settled for a beer 2 I was not the one ordering the drinks on our return . It was actually my friend ,a doctor, who also asked for a drink straight on the rocks and was served Which surprised me due to my experience earlier in the night. 3 He was the one questioning the bar staff on the most part and yet they were directing the conversation towards me. 4 I was asked to leave . The staff escalatedthe situation by the attitude they chose to take with us and continue to do so. I have thought long and hard about that night and what I shall say now I have never ever said before in any situation. I am of a mixed race my skin is brown and I truly believe that there was an element of racism occurring that night. At a fundamental level The staff were hostile without question. We were not. It is as simple as that. I have stayed in Accor hotels all over the world and naturally have met many of the fantastic staff ,never have I witnessed such a display of hostility as we did that night. I have no wish to stay at that hotel nor continue with this verbal sparring ,naturally they will continue to be defensive from there position in all this and of course I will say I am in the right here. I will happily stay away from the hotel since I am “blacklisted”. Thank you for taking the time to contact me. For your information back in the eighties I was in the hospitality business(restaurants and nightclubs for twenty years) I managed the biggest nightclub in London for 5 years ( grand metropolitan) and (European leisure)and really do understand the business, In my opinion The staff at the Mercure are badly trained . Regards

I have been an Accor member for over 17 years and I requested an upgrade for my recent stay, where I was using my complimentary night. At the Mercure Hunter Valley, Tamera at the front desk, was fantastic. We received a great upgrade and it really made our visit. We also dined in the restaurant for dinner and breakfast and it was most enjoyable. In all a really pleasant stay-many thanks to all.

All staff were extraordinarily friendly. I felt right at home. Dined in the restaurant by myself and the staff made me feel welcome. At a lot of hotels it is awkward but your team were amazing.

Great location, needs a makeover internally though

We booked our break with you through Luxury Escapes and we couldn't be happier! We decided on Mecure Hunter Valley Gardens because my wife and I were celebrating our 42nd Wedding Anniversary and we thought this would be a great location, not far from Sydney and we couldn't of been happier. On arrival and entering our room ( 802 ) we discovered a bottle of bubbly courtesy of Mecure.... certainly appreciated and more importantly enjoyed. We also had the 3 course dinner at Elements Bar and Grill, fabulous! Shouldn't forget breakfast which was equally great and the service from the team was first class..... We will return for another stay for sure!

Mecure Resort Valley Gardens although starting to show its age a bit is a straight forward studio style roomed hotel with drive up access to your room. The location is what gives this hotel its advantage by being central to a large number of wineries and restaurant's all within easy walking distance, when visiting wine country this removes the worry of driving, the hotel is even serviced by one of the popular gastro pubs courtesy bus. If simple clean accommodation with all the amenities is what you want in the Hunter then the Mecure Hunter Valley Gardens fits the bill. Just hope you get a room with an upgraded bed mattress as the old one we had was very hard/lumpy resulting in the last two nights being spent on the sofa bed as it was more supportive.

Dear Col, Thank you very much for your detailed review of your recent stay with us. Delighted to hear that you enjoyed our centrally located hotel and its convenience when visiting this beautiful part of the world. I am however terribly sorry to hear about the quality of the mattress and disappointed that my team was not able to offer you another room to stay in after an uncomfortable night on that mattress. We are in the process of getting all our mattresses replaced so I trust you will get to enjoy a good night sleep on what feels like a cloud, on your next stay with us.

I was impressed!

Firstly by the speed of response to a problem with the TV remote, within minutes there was a knock on the door & there was Karen with fresh batteries! Secondly the room was serviced. We have stayed in many hotels during COVID & this was the first time, I was concluding that this was a way to reduce costs. So well done Mercure Resort Hunter Valley Gardens.

Dear Toussainttoujours, Thank you so very much for your lovely review! We hope to welcome you back to the hotel again very soon. Kindest regards, Camille Bardou Rooms Division Manager

Beautiful main building. Very friendly staff. Excellent location, walking distance to many wineries and a distillery. Handy to have a pub with great meals close by. Able to have a drink followed by a pleasant stroll back to the hotel.

Thank you for posting on our TA feed chrisandles2021. Delighted you had a lovely stay. We are very central which is great to be able to park your car and stroll over to many places. We hope to see you in the Hunter again soon. Kind regards Julie @ Mercure
