I had a great time during my stay. My prior room allocation request was taken into account, and every staff member I interacted with was very nice and helpful. The room had everything I needed, and the small sauna area was a great addition. Breakfast offered good variety and quality, which I really appreciated. The room is starting to show some wear and tear, so a bit of maintenance would be welcome. My only real criticism is the pillows: they were quite uncomfortable and too flat for a good night’s sleep.

I wasn't going to write a review but as I received an email asking me to review my stay I'll leave my experience for the management to hopefully improve. I have stayed at several Mercure previously and they were never as good as Novotel (Accor's competing 4-star brand) but this Mercure was the worst I stayed at so far. Nothing was terrible but there were so many small issues that the overall experience got affected. Positives: friendly staff, junior suite large and with balcony, supermarkets and restaurants close by, good price Negatives: -) floor was extremely dirty; my child spilled juice on the floor and when I removed the juice with a tissue the tissue turned black. I tried a few spots in the room and everywhere was similarly dirty. After telling the reception the next day it got cleaned properly. -) Cleaning not properly done in general. There were crumbs on the carpet and on an armchair's extendable part from previous guests. Tile joints in bathroom partially really dirty. -) Furniture not well maintained. The main light source in our living room was broken. A shelf door was lose and only hanging on a last hinge. In the restaurant area a child was crawling over the bench to its family's table and the seat fell off the bench. -) Heater couldn't be lowered. The heating was set too hot but we couldn't reduce the temperature, so we had to open the windows. -) Generally cheap or sloppy management. Our room had 8 light sources (one broken) and 11 light switches of which 3 didn't do anything. The reading lights couldn't be controlled individually, so the reading light and the bed room's light source were always on or off together - which kind of defeats the purpose of a reading light. There was no price list for the minibar in the room and when I tried calling the reception to ask about prices the room's phone did not connect me to the reception - the reception could call our room's phone though. -) Breakfast selection was quite limited - reminded me more of breakfast at Ibis. Mercure Graz has three kinds of veggies, one kind of non-pork cold cut, four warm dishes and three kinds of pastries while Mercure Salzburg has about twice as much selection.
