Andrea Y. Families - Confirmed reviews ALL

Booked a room with queen bed and bunk specifically for my toddler and i to have our own beds as that is what we are use to. Booked through booking.com where it specifies 1 adult 1, 4yr old child. Upon arrival the first room we were given smelt of grease/oil so i requested a different room. The room that we were moved too also had a similar smell but not as bad, there was dust all over the jug lid and all around the cups/spoons like that had not been cleaned in weeks. the top bunk was not made so i climbed up the very high ladder too make my sons bed (which tbh i couldn’t properly as it was very high and i didn’t feel safe without falling trying) the mattress on bunk was hard as hell and like laying on a noisy tarp… then i saw a sign “warning not suitable for children under 9yrs old”. by time i saw this my son had sat on bed playing lego and sat on side of bed to eat a cup of noodles. This room was not clean, smelt and then not suitable for my son despite them knowing a 4yr old would be staying. so i went down stairs expressed my concerns and requested a refund… it was 7pm my son was close to bed we had travelled all day and we needed a safe place to sleep! the man who is “assistant manager” requested to look at room as we had been there for 45minutes. upon inspection he said “the bed had been used so couldn’t refund”… i said “the bed? my son sat there to play lego and on side to eat… there is no chairs/table where else is he meant to sit??” he told me to ring booking.com as this is where i booked. I rang them and they said they had to speak to manager onsite (so literally the same guy who told me to call them) i was at reception so could hear everything … “the bed has been used, if they weren’t happy they should have told me in first 5minutes” i said “it’s 6pm my son needed dinner and i was trying to make his bed when realised just how unsafe the bunk was for children” again he refused refund… 30mins on and im in tears, i packed up and sat in car trying to find a safe place for my son and i to go for the night. The lady on booking.com was lovely i was in tears and she was there for a good 45minutes back and forth… then i came back in and read to him… Under Australian Consumer Law, if something is: • Not as described • Unsafe • Not fit for purpose …you are entitled to a remedy — refund or alternative — even if the rate is “non-refundable.” Your child cannot legally use that bunk, so you were not provided two usable beds as advertised. i said “please just refund me and i’ll leave!!!” only after this he agreed to refund me… he then said “you can leave the property now” he was also still on phone to booking.com and said to the lady “she will be blacklisted GLOBALLY from all Ibis and Accor motels”… i was a mess… my poor son was so overtired and we just wanted to get out of there and find a safe place for the night…. His name was Ashmed or something… i will be escalating this… as this is far from appropriate for a family room … and i didn’t even look in bathroom so who knows what else i might have found. Never again, i was so distressed in a situation with just myself (female) and my son against this horrible horrible man!

Hi Andrea, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are sorry to hear that your stay did not meet your expectations and that you felt distressed during your visit. However, we would like to clarify several important points for accuracy and transparency. At the time of booking, the room type selected was a Queen Room with Bunk Bed. This room configuration is clearly described across all booking platforms, including Booking.com. Australia's safety guidelines strongly advise only children aged 9 or older should use the top bunk, with younger kids on the bottom. We have appropriate safety signage displayed in the room. Children under 12 stay free and are required to share an existing bed with an adult, as the bunk bed is not suitable for children under 9 years of age. The safety signage was displayed in the room; however, the concern regarding suitability was raised approximately 30-45 minutes later, after the room had already been occupied, rather than being brought to our attention immediately. As children below 12 stay free of charge, additional beds are not included in the rate. Rooms with extra beds are available for an additional fee, which was offered at the time and was declined. We strongly encourage guests to review our safety requirements and room types and types of facilities that we offer carefully before confirming a reservation to ensure the room type is suitable for their needs. Regarding cleanliness and room condition: -The bunk bed was prepared in line with our standard procedure, which includes a fitted sheet placed on the mattress. The claim that the bed was “not made” is therefore incorrect. -Once the room had been occupied and used, it could not be resold without full servicing. This was explained at the time, as cleaning and re-preparing the room incurs operational costs. Despite this, and as a gesture of goodwill, a refund was approved. During our discussion, I was subjected to inappropriate language, and the room key was thrown towards me. Due to this behaviour, I advised that further action may be taken in line with Accor’s guest conduct policy While I regret that this experience was upsetting, I believe the matter was handled professionally and in accordance with hotel policy. Kind Regards, Abhash Assistant Manager Ibis Budget Canberra

Everthing was good. The only problem was that it took too long to turn the false alarm off in the middle of the night. Interrupted our sleep. It's not the hotel fault when guests doing something wrong that sers the alarm, but need to act quickly to minimise impact on other guests particularly in the middle of the night.

Hi James, Thank you for your lovely feedback. We’re pleased to hear that you found the room simple, clean, and equipped with everything you needed for a comfortable stay. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused by the false fire alarm during the night. While the alarm was triggered by another guest, we completely understand how disruptive this can be, especially when it takes time to reset and silence. We are reviewing our response procedures to ensure we can minimise any impact on guests in future situations. Thank you again for your understanding, and we hope to welcome you back for a smoother stay. Kind Regards, Abhash Assistant Manager Ibis Budget Canberra

The bathroom smelt bad and the room was very dated but it was cheap and convenient location. Easy booking and check out.

We’re sorry to learn that the bathroom smell and the dated condition of the room affected your experience. We will have our housekeeping and maintenance teams look into the bathroom issue immediately. Regarding the TV size and the lack of a nearby power point, we appreciate your comments. For future stays, please feel free to let our front desk team know — we can provide an extension cord on request to make charging your devices easier. Thank you again for your feedback, and we hope we have the opportunity to provide you with a more comfortable stay next time. Kind Regards, Abhash Assistant Manager Ibis Budget Canberra
