The hotel is a lovely, slightly older building. Staff were delightful, the bed extremely comfortable and breakfast was delicious. We particularly enjoyed our balcony that opened onto the garden, making our room redolent with flowers. Wonderful location for visiting Canberra.

This was our first stay at Mercure Canberra and it was a last minute decision to visit Canberra so hadn't spent much time researching. We chose the Mercure because of the good rate we were given and we could use our one free night stay from our Accor membership. We stayed in a king loft room which was good as we were travelling with our teenage son and he could have his own space. The bed was really comfortable. We had booked a table in their bistro and requested to eat outside as we were catching up with family. However when we saw what the outdoor area was like we were very disappointed. It was very dreary looking and very uninviting. I've seen country pubs with nicer outdoor areas. We decided to go somewhere else to eat. It looks like no money has been invested in this hotel for a long time. Everything is looking very dated and in need of a makeover. It could be a very nice hotel if it was restored to it's former glory.

Customer service at the hotel was excellent. We had a need to stay overnight with our dog, so having that option was fantastic. The room was clean but the courtyard for fur baby needed some love. The hotel is in a good location, walking distance to downtown Braddon where restaurants and shops are. Overall we had a good experience.

Simple arrival was helped by online pre check in process. Nice overall room, but felt that it needed 2 more pillows as wooded head-board was uncomfortable. Also, room was located near a door that made a noise ever time someone used it. The whole room shuddered. That was annoying. Also, the little milk capsules (only 4 supplied) are a pet hate of mine. Prefer a small milk bottle from the fridge that allows for top ups. Don't like Netscape blend43. Woukd have preferred a nespresso machine as a platinum member. Unlikely to stay again. Hotel was a little too basic for us.

We love coming to Mercure Canberra. Location is perfect for us- short drive to War Memorial and walk to shopping centre. It is peaceful and relaxing and the hotel next door is great.

Very comfortable room with verandah and courtyard. Well located with 5 minute walk into the main shopping/eating district, 10 minutes walk to The Australian War Memorial

Unfortunately, we had to check out after the first of our three nights as we both woke with COVID symptoms on the morning of 1 January and decided to get tested. We thought it was appropriate to check our rather than spend another two nights quarantining in our hotel room for the safety of both staff and other guests. I spoke to guest services prior to our check out about the possibility of a 2 night credit but am not sure how I can follow that up.

It really was not 100% enjoyable stay at this Hotel. It is very tired the carpets need replacing, the walls have huge crakes requiring attention, the furniture is old and dirty especially in hallways. The car park needs to be gated it is not a very savoury area, car alarms went off twice during the night not the Hotels fault. We were happy with both dinner and breakfast meals. We think the Hotel is Heritage listed but that does not rule out the repairs mentioned above. It just needs tender loving care as it is so close to the War Memorial.

We stayed here for a night. Good decent room sizes and great service. Check-in and check out was smooth. Only negative was that the breakfast closes at 9am during weekdays which is too early for travellers like us who are on holidays.

Good location walking distance to city and Braddon entertainment precincts. Hotel has lovely grounds and while the buildings have character, they're also showing their age. Definitely good value for money with good parking for trades and travelers. Breakfast was good value also. Stayed here for a couples weekend away - next time, I'll choose somewhere nicer.

Great stay with dog

Our family booked 3 different rooms: loft, standard and the dog room and they were all great rooms but the ability to have our dog with us over Christmas was excellent.

Hotel and loyalty benefits decline...

Have been a regular guest at this property for some years and as an Accor Platinum member, had enjoyed loyalty benefits including free minibar and a nice welcome amenity on arrival. This visit was quite disappointing in terms of loyalty benefits. No room upgrade despite other room categories being available. No welcome amenity. No minibar provided in any rooms let alone that being complimentary as a platinum member. Removing the minibar items was suggested as a means to reduce COVID touch points. However - breakfasts at the hotel were a self serve buffet (all guests using the same tongs, serving spoons etc). A fridge was provided in the reception area where guests were able to obtain water (complimentary for platinum members). Again, the fridge door becoming a significant COVID touch point - more so than items in a minibar would have been. The rooms are dated and overdue for a refresh - hallways and common area floors / carpets / furniture is dirty and aged...but most importantly...our room was not serviced on one day of our stay. We waited until 4pm to report this to management at which time we were told that the room cleaning staff had finished for the day. A staff member did offer to bring fresh towels. This is not the level of service that should be offered at an Accor property - let alone to loyalty members! Thankfully all staff we encountered during the several nights stay were friendly and helpful (as far as they could be). Essentially the hotel is in serious decline and there is no longer an attraction to stay because of the to extras that were previously provided to high level loyalty members. If this is indicative of Accor's means to deal with difficulties associated with COVID (reduction of services to loyal members and letting property standards fall)...then it is time to look at another hotel chain loyalty program.
