We stayed and the room is fine - the age of the hotel is showing (it used to be considered a premium stay), particularly in the bathrooms. But the most concerning aspect was the buffet breakfast - this was the by far the worst breakfast experience. I had some very real concerns about the hygiene and freshness of some of the food. Cereals and bread (had the bread been previously frozen?) and were noticeably stale (especially the cereal), the canned fruit was safe to eat and some of the fresh fruit was ok but other cut “fresh” fruit had a concerning taste of not being fresh. The porridge actually looked like it was growing into a science experience. There was safety with eating the hash browns (thank goodness). Overall it was an overwhelming sense of absolutely no care or interest in what was being served to guests in the hotel. I was concerned with the likelihood of being quite unwell after the food and limited myself to only canned fruit and the hash browns in the end thinking I would be less likely to end up with food poisoning. The age of the hotel itself would never normally affect my decision to stay at a hotel - it’s cyclical and refurbishments inevitably happen and as long as it’s a good bed you can look past a bit of aging, however the breakfast was so horrifically bad. As noted it just gives a real sense that the hotel does not care about its guests - that I would struggle to stay there again. I don’t believe in public slandering - I don’t think it’s fair or achieves anything hence why I have left this as private but I really hope a serious review is taken of the breakfast buffet, because equally if that is breakfast then I would most definitely not be ok with eating at any other time either.
