1 night to see a show. Room was ready early which was a bonus. I enjoy the free drink which is relaxing before going out. I did find it a bit noisier this time, as though a lift was operating during the night.

Single elevator not working

Being put on the 17th floor of the building with only one elevator/lift working was a disaster. It would have been nice to have been offered another room on a lower floorl

Whilst we were upgraded, it was disappointing to have a room with windows through which we could not see, thus it was quite claustrophobic. I’ve never been in a room like that in any hotel I’ve used. Having said that, the staff were friendly. I particularly commend Joshua, who tried valiantly to address the issue of a TV that initially did not work, and one that had ongoing problems with sound - we couldn’t turn it up enough to hear clearly.

Setting the scene.... A late booking for a packed Sydney accommodation market meant that I felt resigned to booking an Ibis instead my usual haunt. Arrival.... Upon arriving way too early for check in and having limited stays with Ibis I was ready for a "no frills" weekend. Walking into the lobby and seeing a full complement of an international flight crew waiting to get to their rooms I thought this could be exactly what I had feared. (long waits, delays, queues for the elevators and heaven knows what else) After waiting around 5-10 minutes with no issues I was signing my check-in in and expecting a 2pm at best (but highly unlikely) bump into my room. when I requested to leave my bag in a holding space. The person on duty said "sure - but wouldn't you rather take it to your room?" I was floored. It was 9am. I have never in my years as a member, and the decade before that, managed to luck a check-in like this. The Surprises.... With Check-in relatively flawless, the inconvenience of a second elevator being out of order didn't phase me to which they added another bonus drink voucher. I know had time to study, shower and shave before heading to a late lunch. The room and bed were above expectations for my single night stay, with plenty of room for what I needed. (18sqm which I looked up in advance of arrival had me thinking this could be a shoe box.) The view down to Central was a first for from high above Pitt Street and I would definitely recommend Ibis World Square for a layover for a single person. Probably wouldn't take the kids :) Final Word.... I was wrong to consider that Ibis would have been a no-frills experience. Whilst it is basic I couldn't fault the effort, facilities and miracles provided. Cheers
