Our experience at the Mövenpick Auckland was unfortunately disappointing, especially when compared to other hotels in the CBD we recently stayed at using similar vouchers. We had a voucher for two adults and were charged an additional NZD 102 to accommodate our 10-year-old child, which included an “upgrade” and an extra breakfast costing NZD 42. This felt unreasonable, considering the voucher already covered two adults and the additional charges were entirely due to the presence of a child who, realistically, does not consume the equivalent of an adult breakfast. In contrast, during recent stays at SkyCity and SO/ Hotel, also using vouchers, both hotels provided an extra bed and included our child’s breakfast at no additional cost. The hotel itself is well located, but that is unfortunately where the positives largely end. The property feels old and dated, with a noticeable musty smell. The carpets are wrinkled and stained, and the bathroom showed visible mould marks in the shower area. Cleanliness was acceptable, but far from what is expected at this price point. Check-in took over an hour, they could not find the reservation, which resulted in us missing the complimentary chocolate experience the hotel advertises. While ice cream is displayed at reception, it is not offered proactively, nor is there any signage indicating guests are welcome to help themselves. We only received it after asking, although the staff member who served us was polite and generous. The lobby smells wonderful thanks to a strong signature fragrance, but this pleasant experience is limited to the entrance only — the corridors do not carry the same standard. The gym is extremely basic, clearly just there to say the hotel has one. There is no pool or spa, which again puts the value into question. For comparison, SOUL Hotel — at a very similar online price — offered a modern, spotless room, excellent service, fast check-in and check-out, a large king bed plus a proper single bed for our child (not a fold-out), a spa-style bathtub, heated pool, jacuzzi, and a far superior breakfast with extensive hot options and fresh orange juice machines — all without any extra charges. We live in Auckland and only stayed at Mövenpick to trial the hotel using a complimentary voucher, as we often book accommodation for visiting family from overseas. While the extra cost itself was not the issue, the lack of flexibility, understanding, and overall value left us with a poor impression. Sadly, based on this experience, Mövenpick Auckland has been removed from our list of hotels we would consider for future family stays.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, I stayed for 10 nights. Housekeeping would often just skip my room so I would later have to request clean towels and other amenities, not really an issue for me. The walls are paper thin was my only real problem, though I was lucky enough to have some fairly quiet neighbours. I did get the Kingfish at the bar upstairs, got food poisoning from that, still not quite fully recovered from that. The gym is 2 cardio machines and a bench and some dumbbells. The washer and dryers were very handy during my stay, $5 for each use of either machine and $1 for a sachet of laundry detergent, all purchased at reception.

From the very start it was disappointing stay. At check in we were provided NO information about the hotel. We had paid to have breakfast included, no information provided about that or anything else. One morning at about 8 am housekeeping knocked on our door asking if we wanted housekeeping "now or later". We stated later. We returned to the hotel around 4:30 pm after being gone all day. Our room had not been touched. We had paid for a late (6 pm) check out. At 11:03 am front desk phoned the room to "remind us that chck out is at 11 am". When we stated we had paid for a late check out the person responded oh, okay, awsome. We then went out to enjoy our last day in Auckland. When we returned, our room keys did not work. After 4 trips down to the front desk to get new keys that would work, finally a front desk agent brought them to us. The hotel is run by teenagers, super casual, that just don't seem to care about the guests. Should we return to Auckland, I would consider another place to stay. I will say the location is fantastic to the waterfront.

The location is very convenient. The room is clean and comfortable however I would suggest management to look into upgrading wifi network as the signal is very weak and almost can not do anything with wifi. I have to use my own overseas data. The other downside is the lacking of answering phone and immediate response to request from guests. On the arrival day, I tried several times calling from room to house keeper/reception asking for sleepers but no one answered the phone. I kept trying but no answers. I tried at other time later but no answer. I then have to walk down to the level L spoke to the reception asking for slippers. I went out for a while but when I get back to the room and still no sleepers. I have to go down to Level L again asking again for sleepers. I would suggest an immediate response to guest would make the hotel be rated highly.

I was happy overall but your cleaners need to check under the beds as there was rubbish underneath our bed from a previous guest otherwise it was a very enjoyable stay with nice staff
