Disappointing Stay at IBIS Birmingham

I recently stayed at the IBIS Birmingham for 2 nights and, unfortunately, my experience fell far below expectations. While I only used the room for sleeping due to a packed schedule, the stay was riddled with issues that left me disappointed. I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights, only using the room to sleep late at night due to a busy schedule. Unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. Check-In Experience Upon arrival, the check-in process was frustrating. The staff mistakenly claimed that my payment hadn't been received, despite having completed it online beforehand. After clarifying the situation, I learned that the previous shift had not recorded my payment correctly. The front desk staff neither acknowledged their error nor offered an apology, which left a negative first impression. Room Condition The room itself was underwhelming. No complimentary water bottles were provided—though a kettle was available—and more alarmingly, I found a bedbug on the pillow. As it was already 2 AM and I was exhausted, I opted not to escalate the issue but conducted a thorough bed check to ensure I could sleep. As someone who works in the hospitality industry, I found this particularly alarming and disappointing. Positive Note The only redeeming aspect of my stay was the security guard, who recognized me and greeted me warmly on the second night. His professionalism stood out amidst the otherwise disappointing experience. The toilets were very clean, which made the experience comfortable. Additionally, the coffee was regularly refilled, which I really appreciated Overall Impression At a cost of £298 for 2 nights, the experience was nowhere near the standard I expect from the IBIS brand. The room was exceptionally small, and the quality of service and cleanliness left much to be desired. Typically, I trust IBIS for affordable and quality accommodations worldwide, but I cannot recommend this Birmingham property. This stay was a clear waste of money and a significant disappointment.

Bedrooms very dated and poor cleanliness in rooms

This ibis is conveniently situated close to Birmingham new street station. The rooms are very basic and extremely dated. Bring your own hand towels as you are only offered very large ones. I found in my room there were about two plug sockets and those were situated in stupid places! Not where you’d expect if you were for example charging your phone/laptop. The room got very warm despite turning off the heating and turning on the fan that was connected? So I had to leave the windows open at night which at least I could do! Apart from tea and coffee making facilities, shampoo, shower gel and handwash in dispensers take your own shower cap etc. No iron etc in your room but there was an iron room located on my floor. If you expect your bedding changed during your stay this won’t happen as I dropped a little tea on the bedding the night before and came back to find it hadn’t been replaced and just made up. Also the mugs glasses were left dirty. I did expect these to be changed as are in other hotels! The breakfast was good! Something for everyone. Vegetarian options, milk alternatives etc. You can order breakfast to requirement but beware of the beady eyed team leader who watches you like a hawk god forbid you take too much helpings! Finally although I stayed for two nights my card was activated as if for one night therefore had issues getting in the lift and in my room which caused me delay (had to go to busy reception to get it activated) getting out for a meeting so much that I had to get a cab so please give yourself plenty of time in the mornings. Other than that the staff were friendly and helpful especially the young man at breakfast. Staff like him should be looked after!

Firstly to IBIS management, shoving two single beds together does not make a double bed. If you’re a light sleeper or noise bothers you, you’d be best avoiding this place, all you can hear until 330am is drum and bass from a local nightclub. On the plus side the staff are brilliant, helpful and friendly and the breakfast was excellent!

Issue with hotel key card

I've stayed here many times and never had any issues. No problems with any noise from the nightclub at the back of the hotel although admittedly, I only stayed 2 nights (Thursday and Friday). I was amused though, that the hotel provided ear plugs in the room. Breakfast was good & plenty enough. The major issue this time though, was the key card. It repeatedly seemed to wipe itself preventing me from using the lifts or even accessing my room. The card needed to be set up again by reception on 6 different occasions. The key card is of the old magnetic stripe type which I thought hotels had got rid of years ago. Please IBIS - ditch this & move over to RFID cards.

Bad experience

One of our room the shower door cannot close properly, waiting for long time to fix this problem. Another room toilet is full of pissy smell.
