Disgusting

The Ibis Birmingham New Street is absolutely disgusting. Their overall eating of 3.7 is way too generous. I would give it a zero as their rooms are not fit for human habitation. I booked 6 rooms for myself and 5 friends. I was so embarrassed on arrival. The manager offered is slippers so that we could avoid contact with the sticky carpets 🤣 See below for the photos of the filth we got for £147 per night...

Dear Mrs. Ridd-Davies, Thank you for your review. We sincerely apologise for the disappointment you experienced during your recent stay with us. We fully understand how upsetting this situation must have been, especially as you were travelling with your group. Following your feedback, I personally inspected your room and reviewed our internal records. While the rooms had been checked by our Head Housekeeper prior to arrival and were found to meet our cleanliness standards, we acknowledge that some areas of the hotel show signs of wear and tear due to high usage. We appreciate that this may have contributed to your impression of poor cleanliness, and we are truly sorry for any inconvenience this caused. Our team made every effort to address your concerns during your stay. Complimentary breakfast was offered for the group, and two of your guests accepted complimentary drinks as a gesture of goodwill. An alternative room was also proposed, though we understand this was declined. As part of our ongoing improvement plan, we have recently upgraded the fire doors on our guest room corridors. Unfortunately, this work has caused some damage to the corridor carpets. The replacement of these carpets is already scheduled to begin early next year, which will further improve the overall appearance of our guest areas. However, we do hope to welcome you back in the future to experience our refurbished and more modern hotel. Please be assured that we take your comments seriously, and your feedback will assist us in prioritising refurbishment and maintenance plans to enhance guest comfort. Very dated would not return

I stayed at the ibis Birmingham Centre New Street for a two-night business trip. The location is excellent, and my first impression of the reception area and bar was promising. The staff were genuinely great polite, helpful, and always offering service with a smile. Unfortunately, those are the only positives I can share about my experience. The room itself was very dated. I was given a twin room, but one of the single beds was so wobbly it looked like the legs might give way, so I didn’t use it. The other bed was uncomfortable, but I had no choice but to make do. The worktop laminate was peeling, the carpet was stained and worn, and the wall heaters looked like they hadn’t been updated since the 1980s. The television offered very few working channels and appeared not to have been retuned since 2021, still displaying listings for channels that no longer exist. The toilet wouldn’t stop running, which kept me awake the first night. I reported it to reception, and thankfully it was fixed by the time I returned from work the next evening. My room was directly in front of the lift, so even when I managed to drift off, I was repeatedly woken by noisy guests returning to their rooms. I know this is a negative review, but I want to reiterate that the staff were excellent throughout my stay. Sadly, due to the overall condition of the hotel, I wouldn’t choose to return.

It's cleaner and more comfortable to sleep on the streets

I booked this hotel because it was the only one available through my company portal as it was the only available option for accommodation, if in future it's the only available accommodation then I will rearrange my trip, this hotel is absolutely dreadful and by that I mean a complete sh#t tip. The "carpet" in my room was filthy to the point I wouldn't consider walking bare foot across the room , chewing gum trodden in, dark ominous stains everywhere. To call the room itself shabby would be a vast understatement, perhaps the term neglected should be used. The first thing upon entering was the smell , I don't know what it was but I can only describe it as some sort of harmful chemical, possibly banned in other countries. The lift lobbies and corridors were atrocious, door fixtures and fittings scrapped on windowsills, emergency escape green boxes hanging off walls, the stink, door numbers missing or on the floor adjacent to the doors, lights not working , the list goes on The bed was so uncomfortable that if the carpet was in any fit state I'd have slept on the floor , but as previously mentioned the carpet should be condemned. Outside the window was a flat roof where all the air handling plant was situated , more on this later. The "bathroom" was so woefully cramped there was barely room to move every time I got out of the shower my arse rubbed against the sink and I had to walk sideways to get past the toilet. The room itself was completely devoid of any airflow , no fans nothing , and was always uncomfortably hot , so I decided to open the window, but guess what? The aforementioned air handling plant made more noise than a commercial air liner taking off, so no chance of any sleep with the window open The only positive about this room was the glazing did keep the noise out so some sleep, albeit hot and sticky was possible If you have the choice of staying in this hotel l, or sleeping rough I'd opt for the latter any day of the week Worse. Hotel. Ever.

Great location, not hotel!

We stayed for 2 nights. The location is fab however that’s really the only good thing about this hotel. It should be an Ibis Budget! The rooms are small and dated and extremely hot, even in October, dread to think what it’s like in the summer. The bathroom you cannot swing a cat!! There’s obviously some works taking place that we weren’t made aware of and every day there’s been drilling since 9:30am! I would pay the little extra and book somewhere else next time.

Grim - needs some money spent on it

Definitely a budget hotel. It is a short walk from the station so a good location. The breakfast team were very friendly but there was nowhere to sit down to eat - I was asked to find a seat at someone else’s table. The bathroom and bedroom were very dated - stain on the bedding, wood chip wallpaper and a very small, dark bathroom. The plug was stuck in the sink also which wasn’t great. The whole place needs updating! This was in no way a reflection on the staff though (who were lovely) and more the need to modernise this hotel.
