I have read many reviews focusing on the hotel's location, but my main issue was hygiene (rather the lack of it). The 5th floor corridor smelled very unpleasantly like sth resembling used frying oil. That same smell was also in my room. Despite keeping the windows open, it persisted. Also the carpeted floor looked absolutely disgusting with stains, and other unidentifyable trash. Bathroom did not look that clean either. I highly doubt the toilet was disinfected. Furniture and room decor looked antiquated and dusty. I genuinely couldn't get over the smell, so after a night of poor sleep, I left without even having breakfast. Bonus minor gripe (compared to the aforementioned): at check in the receptionist gave no basic information, as is the standard in hotels i.e. regarding, breakfast times and location, how to connect to the Wifi, gym times and location. The guest should not have to jump through QR code hoops to figure those things out.

Awful experience, below the quality bar of Novotel. The hotel moquette and linen were not very clean, and we found bed bugs in bed after our first night. Due to allergy reactions, we experienced skin rush and my family and I are currently being visited by a dermatologist back home. While the hotel immediately offered a room change, we had to chase the property TWICE to receive a refund. The hotel management was not present during our stay, nor ever replied to our queries, letting everything in the hand of the receptionists. The hotel area was also not safe at night, so we always relied on taxis. I understand that accidents may happen, but it is the first time I experience an unprofessional treatment at an All Accor property. I will never come back to Novotel Athens.

My experience doesn’t represent my overall experience with the hotels under the ACCOR umbrella. Getting there was easy, check-in was smooth, the room and general facilities are all in good order. The staff was courteous except one. I can deal with sub-par infrastructure (which isn’t the case), but a lack of mutual courtesy, I can’t. I noticed a dull, humming noise from the walls in my room when I decided to call it a night. Upon calling the front-desk and explaining the situation, the response I got was: “So?” The apathetic and confrontational conduct of that one staff member ruined the stay. They changed the room and said “what else can I do here? Do you have a personal problem with me?”. They would stare at you without any acknowledgement/reciprocation of you greeting them whilst walking out for a breath of fresh air outside. The general manager was patient, courteous and understanding of the feedback from this experience. He’s the kind of the person who upholds the standards of hospitality. I appreciate him and I hope this matter is looked into. The hotel, staff (all but one) and the services are excellent.
