I just finished my first stay at a Sofitel hotel – the Sofitel Bogota Victoria Regia – and it will be my last. I arrived at the hotel on July 15, 2026, at about 12:30 a.m. after a 4-hour flight delay. I had asked in writing for the hotel to arrange for a car to pick me up at the airport. Concierge Daniel Garzon capably made the arrangements. The driver, Javier Bermudez, was on-time, greeted me at the exit with the Sofitel sign, was an excellent driver, and had a very clean car. Upon my arrival at the hotel, I was greeted by Alejandro at the front desk. I checked in, gave him my credit card (for incidentals because I had prepaid 1,561.80 USD for the room). Alejandro gave me a key for Room 305. I went to Room 305, and knocked to warn my fiancée I would be entering, and opened the door. I was greeted by a complete stranger – a woman. I don’t know who was more shocked – me or her. At the same time, a porter arrived after running up the stairs to inform me I had received the wrong key and room number. My actual room number was 806. I settled into my room willing to overlook the error but not feeling exactly comfortable about the hotel security at that point. During the day of July 17, 2026, I requested that concierge Daniel Garzon again arrange for ground transportation to the airport and I requested Mr. Bermudez again as my driver. This time I did not receive a written confirmation of the arrangements presumably because I made the request in-person. Mr. Garzon did not ask me whether the transportation would be charged to my room but based on the prior arrangement I assumed it would be again charged to the room. When I arrived at the hotel the evening of July 17, 2026, I was again greeted by Alejandro at the front desk. I asked him to confirm the pick-up time for my transportation to the airport. I had an early flight from El Dorado airport and I could not remember if I had requested a 4:00 a.m. or 4:15 a.m. pick-up. Alejandro said he would confirm and call my room with the pick-up time. Of course, Alejandro never called the room. The next morning, I went downstairs to check-out at 4:00 a.m. Alejandro told me driver had been waiting for about 15 minutes. Alejandro verbally listed off some incidentals to be charged to my credit card - including transportation between the airport and the hotel - and told me the total charge would be 900,935 COP. Alejandro never showed me the itemized list of incidentals and he did not give me an invoice for the incidentals (I did, however, receive an email with an itemized receipt from the hotel system 3.5 hours later). But eager to depart for the airport I did not push for the itemized list. He again asked for my credit card for payment (it was the second time I had to give him my credit card). I then got into the car with Mr. Bermudez and we drove to the airport. Upon arrival at the airport, Mr. Bermudez asked me for payment in cash. I was shocked. I said it should have been charged to the room. As an American, I had no COP. Mr. Bermudez, ever the professional, called Alejandro who confirmed that the transportation to the airport had not been charged to my Room and that there was nothing he could do to resolve the problem. At that point, I did lose my temper given Alejandro’s repeated mistakes during my stay. He insisted it was my fault that the driver was asking for cash because he had confirmed the incidentals with me at check-out. I asked him to put aside the issue of fault and think of a solution because a guest of the hotel was stuck at the airport in a car – arranged by the hotel – the driver of which was seeking payment in cash. Alejandro refused and again informed me the situation was my fault. Thankfully, Mr. Bermudez agreed to accept payment in USD, and thankfully I had 160 USD in my possession at the time. The needless stress, security risk, and dismal customer service I experienced at the Sofitel Bogota will preclude me from ever staying at another Sofitel. After one stay, you lost a customer.

Our recent stay at the Sofitel Bogota Victoria Regia was highly disappointing due to the incredibly unprofessional behavior of the front desk staff. The check-in process took an eternity because the employee asked for my credit card three separate times after repeatedly forgetting to save the data in the system. Furthermore, despite holding Accor Silver status and booking through the Accor Preferred program, we received absolutely no room upgrade. The late checkout drama made the experience even worse. Since we had a day trip scheduled the next day from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM and our airport transfer wasn't until 7:30 PM, we asked for a late checkout. The receptionist initially granted us a complimentary late checkout until 4:00 PM. However, just an hour later, he called our room to rudely revoke it, claiming the hotel was fully booked, telling us we were out of luck, and hanging up on us. When I demanded to speak to a manager, he promised a callback within 10 minutes, which never happened. Instead, the same employee called back himself, offering a checkout until 2:00 PM, which was completely useless to us since we were stuck on a tour until 3:00 PM. He then stated that a later checkout *would* be possible if we paid for it, proving that the "fully booked" excuse was just a lie to extract money. To top it off, he claimed no manager was on duty because it was Sunday, telling us we could only speak to someone at 9:00 AM the next morning, right when our tour was departing. In the end, the issue was only resolved because we contacted our external travel agent, who intervened directly. The hotel staff themselves offered zero helpful solutions or flexibility. Only after our agent's intervention did the front desk agree to let us switch rooms before 9:00 AM, which finally allowed us to keep a room until 5:00 PM. While the situation worked out thanks to our agent, the sheer lack of professionalism, rude phone manners, and dishonesty from the front desk staff are completely unacceptable for a luxury brand like Sofitel.
