I'll start with a positive, great location, easy to walk to the station, local eateries etc. Now onto the negatives, on arrival, walked into the lobby, 4 staff behind the reception desk, not 1 staff member greeted us. I walked up to matthew and he didn't even welcome us to the hotel. Check in was painfull and slow and he over charged me. No mention of welcome drinks or anything, by far the worst accor check on I have had. Back to a positive, the room was nice, clean, well thought out. I needed a desk to work from and again found it frustrating that 1 did not exist in the room, whilst I know space is tight I still had no where to work from. Then onto my welcome drink. Twice I attended to get this, twice it was an effort to provide me service, this made me rather annoyed and both times I left without being served, on 1 occasion I took my whole family with me to get drinks, eventually we left disappointed. A 3rd time I went to have dinner. The restaurant seemed half full at the time. About 815pm, we were greeted by some guy who told me "we are too busy" only to be told by a second guy he has 20 people to serve and doesn't have time for us. I asked if I could order a pizza and take to my room, he said yes and then turned away from us. I found this disrespectful and rude, I left and went back to my room without a meal that evening. The breakfast, the coffee, to say the least are mediocre. I struggle to comprehend how hotels charge money for this when there is absolutely zero table service and no good coffee. The only thing I would commend is the omelette, but you do not have an egg station with a chef cooking eggs to order. Overall I think the stay was poor compared to the other mercures I have stayed at, and for the price it is certainly over valued.

Lots of things to like (the pizza if you need a break from Japanese food, the location, the decor, the service) but a few little things were a let down and frustrating and had an outsize impact on the experience (no coin washers and no laundry option at all, dim lighting in rooms, water bottles required a bottle opener and none provided and nowhere to park bicycles)

Regarding laundry, while we do not have coin-operated washers on site, there is a laundromat located nearby, and we also offer a service where items can be collected at the front desk and sent to our laundry vendor. In addition, our guest rooms are equipped with glass bottles as part of our efforts to reduce plastic waste and support a more environmentally friendly stay. The design of the hotel is great although I was missing the Onsen a dormy Inn would Offer. The breakfast organisation is a disaster as you have to plan your time and hope for a seat. Don’t offer it if you can’t!
