Deposit scam

Checked out nearly a month ago and they still haven’t refunded our deposit. Multiple emails but no response. It is unacceptable to take deposits if you will not refund on check out. Had a family room for 4, but only ever had towels for two. Room serviced twice in a week and that was only when we called to remind them.

Rude & unprofessional front desk staff - not a nice greeting to our 5 star resort holiday

ruminderj Families - TripAdvisor review

Arrived after an overnight 8 hour flight with my anxious 3 and 4 year old and was greeted by most rude/ inhospitable front desk staff member. This was my families 5th stay at the hotel with all having been amazing previously. However this time the staff member was dictating the rules rather than actual trying to help. She insisted that there were no rooms available and we had to wait 7 hours for the next available room with no reference to available showers or provision for my children. They were expected to stay quiet and wait in a very busy lobby. Rather than being helpful in our requests she was more interested in taking our taxes as we arrived. This has never been done before in such a short and abrupt way. I have 2 child’s (3 & 4) we just arrived from our flight, normally the staff greet us & say ‘ we are busy however we try our best to you into your room early’. However this lady was rude & best suited for budget bed & breakfast not a 5 star resort. In conclusion it’s the way you conduct yourself & saying things - it should match the place you paying for. Also if work in the hospitality industry try to been ‘hospitable’. Sofitel you are welcome to contact me, 5 times each year so far I stayed with my family. I didn’t expect to treated like this. We are now in 2 minds whether to go another hotel after the way we were spoken to.

An Excellent Alternative to The Atlantis

TripAdvisor rating 4.0/5

DGraham Families - TripAdvisor review

My family of four stayed here at the Sofitel in a classic room for ten nights at the end of August and start of September 2024 on a half-board basis. Having stayed at the Atlantis, which is 2km away on the beach front, only 10 months ago, it’s probably unfair but difficult not to make comparisons, however I would suggest there are a number of things that the Sofitel do better and only one or two things that the Atlantis do significantly better. At the end of the day it comes down to budget and personal preference. Accommodation We booked two classic rooms to split between our family. Both were a great size, with comfortable double beds, TV, kettle, coffee machine, iron and ironing board and a Bose speaker. There are no British TV pchannels but I personally wasn’t interested in watching TV. The bathroom area was excellent. The rainfall shower in the wet room area was lovely and the bath big enough for 3, if you wanted. The classic room balcony looked on to nothing much but we knew that when we booked and given the heat and humidity wouldn’t have used it much even if it overlooked the beach front. The classic room is as equipped and spacious as the equivalent at the Atlantis but the darker decor gives the Sofitel classic room a slightly less appealing style. There are probably nicer finishing touches at the Atlantis too, such as complimentary charging cable ties, but our holiday at Sofitel was not worse for a lack of such fineries. At the end of the day the room was for sleeping and getting ready. It was always kept clean and tidy by the housekeeping team so there was absolutely nothing to complain about here. I would also add that the room and service was superior to most equivalent hotels I’ve visited in Europe. Dining - Food & Drink First the good. And it’s really very good! The restaurants were superb and were every bit as good as the Atlantis and in the case of the Porterhouse Steaks and Grills superior to their equivalent. It’s fair to say that I had the nicest fillet I’ve ever experienced. The Hong Loong was a close runner up. The Classic Crystal Prawn Har Gao with Black Tobiko from the dim sum menu was exceptional but the highlight of my meal there was the Charred Kway Teow with chicken which was as good a plate of Thai food as l've ever eaten anywhere. The Moana and World Eatery were very good without having quite the wow factor of my two favourites. As for the not so good, the Manava International buffet was average at best for an evening meal. Dubai and the hotel obviously cater for a hugely diverse international clientele but the food was weighted towards Asian cuisine, which would normally be more than fine for me, but on the evening we dined there it wasn’t serving anything near as good as the main restaurants and didn’t really appeal to our two teens. Ultimately its probably more a case of being spoilt by the quality of the restaurants that has contributed to my opinion, but for anyone on a half board basis who has the option of eating from the dine around menus, then the evening buffet could be avoided. Manava is also where breakfast is served and whilst the breakfast options were wide and varied and catered for every nationality it did leave me somewhat underwhelmed for reasons I can’t put my finger on. Maybe it was the ambience and the busyness of it all, maybe it was that it’s quite dimly lit and decorated but it didn’t give off summer breakfast vibes to kick start a day by the pool. The breakfast food was okay though and there was absolutely nothing to complain about. However, the Atlantis buffets far exceed Manava in every possible way. As for bars, the Replay bar became our drinking hole of choice where the service was terrific. Every drink accompanied by free crisps and nuts. We spent many evenings there playing pool, cards and dominoes. There are even chess boards set up at several tables. I also spent nostalgic moments playing the free Pac-Man arcade game which was a nice throwback to childhood holidays. Pools We spent most of our pool days at the main pool overlooking the beach. At the time of our visit, which is off peak for Dubai, there were ample free loungers and more than enough life guards on duty. There was also plenty of staff on duty removing towels from loungers if they weren’t being occupied. One minor and trivial complaint was the speed of drink service. You need to hit a button at your parasol to request service but it can take a long time to arrive, if indeed it arrives at all. I do want to give kudos to the staff at the pool who helped me when I accidentally sliced the top of my big toe after slipping. Their first aider was quickly on hand to clean and dress my bloody toe. Not sure of their names but you know who you are - thank you! Unfortunately we only discovered the waterfall pool on our last day and I’m sure we’d have been there for a change of scenery a lot more if we’d found it earlier. In summary, the Sofitel on the Palm was en excellent holiday choice for a family with teens. The service, facilities and comfort offered were all top notch. Whilst far from a cheap holiday, in terms of value for money, it’s difficult to beat, especially in comparison to the Atlantis. Would I go back? Yes, probably but there a lot of other hotels to experience in Dubai

Our first stay at the amazing hotel. We stayed for 10 nights in a Junior Suite with Palm View. Our room was amazing and well presented which is a credit to the house keeping team on the third floor! Our room came with Premier Lounge Access. This was a welcome inclusion with the room as we enjoyed many benefits they offer (breakfast, drinks, snacks, check in/out). A special thank you to the team - Joseph, Elena, Asadbek, El El, Akash, Shoon, Myat, Ibrahim, Kiran and Rahul. You guys made our stay so amazing. I want to thank you for the arrangement of my birthday surprise also. We hope to return again soon and see all of you again. Thank you so much.
