Loved this place. My hubby, son and I rated that our experience at Grand Mercure topped our overall stay in various places in Japan. It, of course, has some flaws but they were overcome with amazing staffs who really cared for us. The facade of the hotel fooled us. We thought it’d be “not a very nice place” but the inside threw our caution away. The room assigned to us was huge but as we were facing the sun in the afternoon, the room was warm and it felt like the aircon wasn’t working. The front desk (I’m sorry I didn’t get her name), helped by showing us another room that had a sofa bed as an extra bed. I didn’t like the idea of sleeping on a sofa bed so I rejected it. They then gave me another solution by providing us a fan and that proved to very helpful. They were so attentive. I am very grateful for their help and suggestions. The next 2 nights we had rain and were in the midst of the clouds. So it was nice and cooling. One suggestion. - please put up a bigger signage for guests to find your place. It is very easy to miss the sharp turn and weird road leading to your hotel. We thought we were at the wrong roads until we saw the hotel. The breakfast spread was really good. But as one who doesn’t like noise, it can be very noisy as the hotel tends to attract guests with young children and also bus loads of tourists (on one night we saw 8 large coach buses). We didn’t use the onsen as we weren’t used to the public bath with so many people around. The bath tub in the room was amazing and I bought some “onsen/hotspring bath salts to emulate hot springs water. So that did help. The executive lounge was also a plus for us. We didn’t get to see stars cos of the weather but it’s ok. We loved the misty atmosphere. My daughter gifted me a gold membership though I was already a silver member. I am very grateful to her and son-in-law for this wonderful gift. The one thing bad is that I couldn’t get the free 2 nights stay. Not all the hotels offered the free 2 nights stay and Grand Mercury Yatsugatake was one of them. The sales personnel should clarify this to my daughter. 1st shout out to the wonderful staffs who helped make my day by decorating one of the beds with a surprise “Birthday Cake” made out of towels and the bed was strewn with petals. Amazing creative thinking. Thank you so much!! I took the ribbons, birthday card & gift (washi tapes) and decor home with me to remember this special occasion. A big shout out to Muto-san (reservations) Moto-san and 2 other ladies at front desk. Also want to recognise the staffs at the restaurant, executive lounge, onsen lounge and housekeeping team. All were professional and attentive. We also want to thank all the staffs who kept the children’s section so clean. We saw an elderly woman, sweeping and cleaning every edge and corner when we visited the 3rd floor. Amazing culture and respect to the elderly folks who are still working. Thank you to all for a very wonderful experience.

There were two issues I faced during my stay. The room we stayed in was quite hot. We set the thermostat to a lower temperature and turned on the fan to high, but it would not blow any air. Eventually, we opened the window to cool things down, but this caused some of our allergies to be aggravated. The second issue was the wifi in the room. I have silver level status and so I opted for the "high-speed" wifi option. However, the quality and speed of the internet was terribly slow and I wasn't able to effectively do work in the room.

The hotel is not quite what I expected. That said, each and every member of the staff helped make my stay a rather enjoyable one. Thank you, Lee and Muto, and everyone at the front desk, the breakfast buffet team, and the cleaning staff. I truly appreciate your time and kind attitude.
