The hotel rooms were clean and comfortable but felt a bit old. The breakfast had a excellent choice of Asian and Western dishes. The Lounge was a nice spot for a pre-dinner drink.

Dinner and breakfast was not the best. Process for booking difficult. And then some items not available. A bit far out of town and limited buses into town

Not a good location for exploring the city

Although the mountain view is refreshing to the eyes, the location is far from the city center. And while they offer shuttle bus to the center, it was always fully booked. Maybe Mercure should add more shuttle buses especially during winter season. Taxis also need to be called from the city center if you want to get one, and the minimum bill you’ll have is around 5,000JPY. The cheapest choice would be a local bus which is 10-minute walk from the hotel. It’s a good location IF you’re planning for a retreat, but if you plan to explore the city, it’s not recommended. Otherwise, rent a vehicle.

Rooms are very old, carpet was dirty. I have never seen such a dirty carpet in 20 years of living in Japan. But hotel accommodated our pet. Check-in was lengthy but they prioritized ours due to online check-in. Still lot of hand written work that delays. Spa and longue are surely best part of the hotel. Families can stay comfortably. The dinner and breakfast crowd is too much but hotel staff managing some what well. It looks hotel staff work is overloaded. I personally don't want to return but my daughter wants to return to this hotel next year again.

Needs to adapt to international customers

It seems this hotel prior to Mercure take over was target to asian customers going to Matsushiro onsen. Now with Mercure, it needs to improve a lot international experience. Breakfast booking and lines are insane, limited shuttles to Nagano and rooms are super dated. It needs a makeover like all the other reviewers mentioned.
