I was surprised at how comfortable the bed was and how the soft drinks and water were all complimentary. Shower and airconditioning worked well. The signature peppers smell in the hallway was also welcoming.

Our stay started with a cheery hello from the front desk team and it only got better from there. Wonderful facilities and exceptional accommodation. Blackout room and unbelievably comfortable bed we had the best sleep in. The showers had a rain and hand shower and with both on it felt like a beautiful spa experience. Well kitted out kitchen and I would have gladly stayed longer should the opportunity have arisen. Whether it be for work, a stay cay or special occasion, including a mini getaway I would highly recommend.

Firstly, I did not actually stay at the hotel as booked. Check-in records should show that I was not there. The booking was for Friday, 9 October, for business purposes. My wife was taken in for unexpected surgery late on Thursday evening, so it was not possible for me to travel on Friday. On Thursday I requested a change of date via Qantas Hotels. Late on Thursday afternoon, I was advised that Peppers maintained the terms and conditions of no changes or refund. Then on Friday afternoon, I received a further email from Qantas Hotels that the hotel would allow change of booking to an amended date one week later with an additional charge of $100. There was no time limit stipulated for confirming. By the time I saw that email, it was outside business hours and too late for me to confirm the reschedule to date with my client who I am visiting. Earlier this morning, Monday, I received another email from Qantas Hotels advising that the hotel confirmed that the option to amend the booking was a one-time exception that was offered on 9 October. What an absolute mess around, which is especially distressing at a stressful time whilst my wife is still recovering from surgery in hospital. Whatever your answer to the request, don't keep changing it. And don't take away a goodwill gesture that was offered without stipulating a time period for acceptance. This experience has left a very bad taste with regard to the specific property for my future visits, and regarding the Peppers brand in general.

Dear Jeremy J. H., Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your reservation experience with the Peppers Gladstone. I do hope that your wife has/is making a strong recovery. After receiving your comments I have followed up with the team to see exactly what has transpired after the initial non-refundable, unchangeable reservation was received on the 24th of September. The request for a change of dates was received on the Thursday at 5.24pm and replied to at 6.17pm stating we could not change the reservation being a prepaid, non-refundable booking. Nine minutes later the team have replied back to Qantas Hotels that we could do the change of dates but as there was a price increase a nominal fee would have to be paid by yourself at the hotel. Following this we did not receive a reply from Qantas hotels until 1.30pm on the Friday afternoon advising that they were working with yourself about the offer to change the dates. We have followed up with Qantas again at 6.40pm on the Friday, day of arrival, to gain some clarity if you were arriving on Friday or not. Saturday morning at 10.28am we received a reply from Qantas advising your rescheduled meeting had already been cancelled and if we could await a decision of your meeting until today. As the booking had been for the Friday we did require a reply prior to the end of the day. This is the time frame of our interactions with Qantas and unsure how quickly any of our replies may have taken to be communicated through to yourself. As much as possible we want to provide flexibility to our guests, even on prepaid non-refundable rates but cannot wait three days after the arrival date for changes to be made. We appreciate your sharing your concerns, and it is our hope that you will give us the opportunity to better serve you in the near future. Sincerely, Craig Conley General Manager

We have been travelling to Gladstone regularly for more than 30 years and have stayed in many accommodation venues over that time. We are pleased to have recently discovered Peppers. The staff are extremely helpful and responsive and we already feel like we are coming home with each return. However, there are a couple of things that still make us question the 5 star status though that we hope will improve over a short while. Little things like making sure that the doona does not have very large stains clearly seen on turning down the bed, ensuring that bedside lamps both work (we had to move the lamp from the lounge area, and the frequent banging from the room/s above our room were quite distracting. However, the biggest issue we have is the wifi. As we are in the area for business, and the reason we choose the largest suite available, is that we need space to work during our stay. The wifi may become an issue we can’t overcome for future visits and hope that improvements can be made.

Stayed for a work trip, and had the best time just being there, restaurants are close by, the cinema was awesome to watch shows and movies in, the room was clean and tidy, loved the daily refills for drinks, and loved the free drink at the bar per night. Everyone was always so happy and helpful. Especially Erin, she was the best concierge there, such a Queen!!!

We stayed for one night on our way north and had a lovely stay overall. The hotel is beautifully furnished, the rooms and common areas were lovely, and all of the staff we encountered were friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately, the seafood buffet was a real disappointment and definitely not something I would recommend. The seafood appeared to have been frozen and thawed rather than fresh, and the quality simply wasn’t what we expected, particularly for the price. It also seemed that many people arrived early, and once items were gone, they weren’t adequately replenished. A beautiful hotel and a very pleasant overnight stay, but I would absolutely give the seafood buffet a miss — it simply wasn’t worth the money.

We loved this hotel. Great location, all of the amenities were fantastic. Staff were all wonderful! We will stay there again ! Washer / dryer in the room was so useful. It wouldn’t hurt to put more towel hooks in the bathroom.
