Paid £150/night at Mercure Larnaca (Accor brand) and the A/C was not switched on/available. Staff’s “solution”? Open the window and sleep. We’re a family with a 9-year-old. In an unfamiliar area, being told to sleep with the window open felt unsafe, and the sea waves/noise made sleep impossible anyway. None of us slept. We spent the night sitting up, stressed and exhausted. Breakfast was okay, but that’s not the point. A hotel’s job is to provide basic comfort and security—especially at this price and under the Accor name. I’m requesting a refund for the night (minus breakfast). Never again. Not recommended, especially for families.

We regret that your experience did not meet your expectations and would like to clarify the situation regarding the air-conditioning system to avoid any misunderstanding. Our hotel operates a centralized, energy-efficient HVAC system. This system functions in either heating or cooling mode for the entire building, depending on the season. During the winter months, the system is set to heating mode, which was fully operational during your stay. It is not technically possible to switch individual rooms to cooling mode while the building is operating on heating, and this was explained by our team at the time. As a temporary comfort suggestion, our staff recommended opening the window slightly to allow fresh air into the room. We would like to reassure you that your room was located on a higher floor, and security would not have been compromised in any way. This suggestion was made purely as an optional measure to improve comfort, not as a dismissal of your concerns. We are always available to assist our guests and would have been more than willing to explore alternative solutions, including room checks or additional support, had this been requested further. While we respect your opinion, we firmly believe that a one-point rating does not fairly reflect the level of service, assistance, and transparency provided by our team throughout your stay. I spent two days here for a solo mini break between Christmas and New Year. The hotel is modern with a luxe feel. The staff were all consistently helpful and friendly. It's located right on the beach and has plenty of sun loungers. My room was comfortable with an excellent shower and a beautiful sea view. The smoothie bar is a real plus too. The hotel is currently next to multiple large scale construction sites (nothing to do with the hotel) which is not ideal so the area is very much a work-in-progress. I'd happily stay here again.
