Fable Terrace Downs Resort by MGallery 5 stars

The accommodation is top notch 5 stars easily. Beautiful and clean, incredibly spacious and more rooms than we needed. Unfortunately the couch was so upright and hard we failed to get comfy to watch a movie. I dragged another chair around for some comfort. Would definitely come back but would probably bring more food and just enjoy the room facilities. The restaurant was very average. Friendly enough staff but it was such a mismatch with what the accommodation offered. Evening meal was average, potatoe layered cake tasted it had been reheated to many times and my chicken was overcooked. Breakfast the next morning was typical of a continental breakfast however the coffee was warm. Like I said, I would definitely come back but just would not bother with the restaurant.

We booked a package one night stay and it was awesome! The Villa room was one of the best I have ever booked. A+++. Very spacious living area with enourmous quality kitchen with everything you would want. Nespresso coffee, Gas Hob, Oven, Dishwasher, Fridge/Freezer, plus Washing Machine & Dryer. We never used the heatpump or fireplace. Each Villa has a great balcony with outstanding views. Superb restaurant & bar. Good breakfast options. Great Wifi and cell-phone coverage. Free parking. Excellent service.

Spacious and extremely comfortable accommodation. Room has washer and dryer as well as full kitchen. Check in staff friendly & informative. Views spectacular. Food delicious, good selection of wines. No services nearby - remote and peaceful.

Fable Terrace Downs can be a heaven for golfers but I do not play golf, unfortunately. I stayed here only for holiday with my friend family and want to off from the stressful real work. We did big shopping in Christchurch and cooked food almost everyday by ourselves. Limited activities but we enjoyed a lot of walking, clay shooting, and offroad buggy activities.

Pros: Accommodation well appointed for the most part Views and location beautiful Golf good Staff mostly accommodating and friendly and know their job The restaurant was excellent and service was excellent Commendation to the staff manager member for the breakfast service who sorted our issue politely and without a fuss She did acknowledge that they had experienced some staffing issues and would let her manager know- we appreciated her professionalism Food service with drinks at the cafe was friendly and prompt and also delicious Cons: Despite ringing a few days before our arrival to double check the online booking and arrange a tee time when we arrived to check in we were early as the tee time was well before the 3pm check in. No rooms were available( not an issue as we were not expecting to check in mid morning) but the tee time was not booked in the system and the reservation appeared as 1 adult. The staff member checking us in was the person I had spoken to on the phone as she had a very distinctive voice and I had recorded the name when I phoned. She dismissed all of this as computer error telling us they had numerous issues in the previous few days- we accepted this and made no further mention- golf went off at the arranged time The next morning at breakfast we were told it wasn’t included despite at check in it was printed on our arrival slip ( albeit for 1which I corrected at the time) this was sorted as mentioned above When we returned an hour and a half later from initial arrival the same staff member who had said they had been fully booked the previous night so no check in would be available until 3 for anyone, yet a party of 4 were checking in! We were in no rush to check in but the lack of consistency in this was not a good look for the property One glaring issue with our Villa was the air conditioning as there was one unit facing into main living area and none in the bedrooms thus they were quite warm Added problem on the master was the door to the terrace was labeled not to be opened so getting air flow was an issue-I acknowledge this would be only a problem in summer but it was not great for sleeping Overall we enjoyed the stay but it came a poor second to the golf resorts in the North Island for service and to others we’ve stayed in around the world. Better front desk staff training needed as the same staff member checked us out with a very poor attitude as it was clear this person had been ‘spoken’ to regarding the issues we had encountered More staff like the manager on breakfast duty would help the profile of the resort
