The hotel was a lovely one with great design. the staff friendly and helpful throughout the stay. the only issue I had was the amount of flies during breakfast. they were all over the fruit on the yogurts and around the tables. which was a shame.

Reception is tiny with two desks only, and two staff. This leads to huge queues, exacerbated by the habit of the person doing the checking-in, then leaving with the customer to walk them to their room. This is EXCRUCIATINGLY annoying if you are stood there waiting to check in, or out, or to ask a question. Amateur hour, it really is. The person checking me out did not even bother to ask if I had a good stay. I would have explained that the fact they charged me nearly £150 for a midweek night in a fairly average hotel, and THEN wanted £30 for me to use the spa for 2 hours (nowhere was this mentioned when i was booking, not even in the small print) which was the only reason I chose this hotel in the first place. Room was dark and fairly imposingly depressing to be honest. The sheets on the bed had bobbles on them, they had been used so many times. Two cans of water in the fridge and that was it. Shower leaked out into the hallway and soaked their carpet, and the bathroom door slammed shut every time you opened it. Didn't even bother to have a drink at the bar as you could just tell it was going to be a major rip-off and a joyless experience merely from the 'ambience' of the place - like a Romanian train station waiting room. Car park is a way away (NCP) and you get soaked dragging your gear to the hotel because it is just always raining in Liverpool. Just overall, a very, very poor and unenjoyable experience and one that I would not repeat.

60 th birthday celebrations with 3 friends - Hotel beautiful with lots of original features , Room big and beds comfy . Reception staff very welcoming however service in Palm court lacking . Bar fairly quiet both at lunch and evening but no table service and barman unsure about correct mixers for drinks . Would normally go for swim in am but £30 charge for 2 hours as guest seemed a lot although this is highlighted on web site . Most hotels there is no charge for guests to use pool . At breakfast in Palm court which appeared fairly quiet we waited 45 mins for food to arrive only to be told there had been problem in kitchen and would need to wait extra 30 mins . We ordered another choice but when it arrived bacon was quite tough and inedible . Had to ask several times for extra tea and coffee as all drinks didn’t turn up and there was no clearing of table of glasses / bowls . Did speak to restaurant manger who appeared to not believe we’d waited so long so went off to investigate and came back to confirm we were right and apologised but it was bit late by then as we’d been there 90 mins . There are many hotels to choose from in Liverpool and we wanted a treat in a luxury hotel to celebrate so chose the Municipal but came away very disappointed and would not return .
