I recently booked a two-night stay at Mercure Rockhampton, however I was unfortunately unable to attend due to illness so my family used the booking. They ended up leaving after the first night because the room was not in an acceptable condition. They reported that the room was not clean and had a strong smell of cigarette smoke despite the hotel being advertised as non-smoking. This was particularly concerning as my aunt has asthma and the smell in the room affected her breathing during the night, requiring her to use her asthma inhaler. My nephew’s partner attempted to raise the issue with the front desk while they were there but was reportedly unable to lodge a complaint or have the issue addressed at the time. Because of this they did not stay for the second night and had to find alternative accommodation. I have contacted the hotel requesting at least a refund or credit for the unused night, which I feel is a reasonable request given the circumstances. I hope management reviews this situation and ensures room conditions and guest concerns are handled more appropriately in future.

Thought i had included breakfast with booking only to find out was my mistake. When checking in was told I can add it and would have to pay at breakfast at an increased cost of $56 for 2 people as opposed to $40. During check in it wasn’t remotely entertained that breakfast could be added to the booking. Won’t be staying with you guys again.

The staff were exceptional and very understanding for our late arrival for check in. We enjoyed the upgraded room, very unexpected and truly grateful. Overall a great stay!

The rooms need to be up dated. The bathroom door was hard to close. Patched up holes in the bath tub. Wasn't worth $180 I don't think i will stay there again on our way back home.
