Average hotel in nice location

goodmananna Families - TripAdvisor review

We booked a family room. Luckily only 3 of us needed to stay as it would not in fact have fitted four of us and we would not have known that until after we arrived late at night. So beware your two children will be sharing a small double sofabed so that won't suit tall 11 year olds. The extractor fan was broken and the bathroom was very mouldy. I can't imagine that wasn't already known for months so I am surprised they still allow people to stay in that room. On arrival reception advised we press 0 on the phone for any help but the phone didn't seem to work and reception was not nearby so when we did need to ask a couple of things it was a long walk. Breakfast was average. No food was available late in the evening and the nearest shop is around 20 min walk away. The location is good but I don't think I would stay there again. The staff were very helpful and friendly.

Disappointing

Many of the staff were great, especially on the reception desk, and at breakfast. The grounds are beautiful. BUT - there was an unflushed toilet in our bedroom when we checked in - not just liquid matter either. The bar had no alcohol-free beer at all, something which the vast majority of pubs and hotels now have, and we found the bedroom pillows incredibly uncomfortable. Many of the bar staff seemed decidedly grumpy. Despite the beautiful grounds, we thought this a very average hotel. Disappointed

We have just returned from a very pleasant two night stay here. The hotel is tastefully furnished paying homage to the tailoring and shoe making history of the area. It feels recently renovated. It has a relaxed informal atmosphere to it with friendly and helpful staff. There is plenty of parking and a terrace and some garden areas. We had rooms in the main house which would be my preference if staying again. There is a lift. Breakfast is served in a lovely light restaurant with an extensive menu. Its mainly self service but speciality coffees and cooked items can be ordered with ease. I was surprised that this restaurant wasn't used for the evening meal in the hotels Franks Restaurant which is part of the bar area. The food on both nights was excellent. Quality ingredients perfectly cooked and presented. Our party enjoyed scallops, asparagus starters, pan fried chicken, hake, lamb and pork dishes and the cheese board. The hotel is perfectly located for access into Oxford. Frequent bus service is just a 2/3 min walk away with a bus journey of 10-15 mins depending on traffic - we did it in 8 mins! We also walked used the river walk from Iffley village which was lovely and took abot 40 mins to Folley Bridge. We would not hestitate to stay again

Birthday Meal

For my wife’s birthday, I booked a table in the restaurant for us to enjoy a celebratory meal. Jody showed us to our table which had been beautifully laid out and a few minutes later our choice of food was taken. When the food arrived, it was very well presented and cooked to our liking. All the staff on duty were keen to please, and we both very much enjoyed coming to this hotel for this celebration and have no hesitation in recommending it. 😀
