Price was good but……….. Room was not cleaned properly beforehand. Carpet was threadbare in place and room just looked like it need ed refreshing. To top it off, warmest day of the year, radiator was stuck on full blast. They tried to turn it off but failed. After 2 hours of saying please can we have another room. They said they were full. They offered a fan, but that would just circulate the warm air. Window was open, but this didn’t help. Also an awards function was on and was noisy, so window open was only okay for while we were awake. Anyhow I asked to change hotel if they didn’t have any spare rooms which they did. Fortunately they managed to find another hotel 3 miles away. Whilst we were waiting for them to find another hotel, a staff member mentioned they had had a room the previous day that had a radiator stuck on!

Thank you for your review. If I may, I would like to offer a balanced response. I am sure that you will agree that we have had a very different, challenging start to the summer. Temperatures outside have not been consistent and as with many older properties, we do not have the luxury of automated heating controls in each room. We can control the heating centrally and this does provide its own challenges and it would be impossible to please everyone. We are currently reviewing our summer standard and once we have a more consistent idea on temperatures, we will be able to roll this out to help and enhance our guest experience. I am disappointed that you have chosen to review us a 1* as I believe the team did their very best in helping you on the night and I am pleased that they were able to secure you a night at our sister property, DoubleTree by Hilton Sheffield and offered to pay taxis between both hotels. A great stay. We had everything we needed. The rooms are a little worn down however the grounds and staff make up for it. Special mention to holly and kez on the bar who ensured we had fast and friendly service. Thanks for the popcorn. I would make a return.

Amazing hotel! This is now the 6th time I’ve been here with my girlfriend and already cannot wait to come back! We stayed in the Junior suite which has a balcony and a lovely view of the lake! Luckily we were there in the sunshine at 25 degrees which made the stay all the more memorable. Beds were extremely comfy and took me an age to get out of bed in the morning as I didn’t want to leave! Breakfast has also changed with a lovely new pancake machine and a good selection of breads such as bagels and crumpets - something that wasn’t there before. The breakfast manager is also very helpful and friendly. The spa facilities are excellent as always with a nice swimming pool, sauna and steam room which never disappoints! Just a magnificent place to stay in general - the best hotel in Sheffield (and I’ve stayed in a fair few). Lovely place to also hold wedding venues which quite a few people have here by the looks of it! Can’t wait to come back soon!

sfuhere Solo travel - TripAdvisor review

Nice situation in the Sheffield suburbs and plenty of parking. I had a nice room overlooking the lake. However the hotel could do with having some money spent on it. My room was clean but the carpets were threadbare in parts and the bathroom seemed ancient, with cracks in both the toilet cistern and the sink. Staffing was a bit suspect. At reception, one person did all the work while someone else just stood there staring into a laptop and studiously ignoring the gathering queue of people waiting to check in. At breakfast, we had to point out that we needed more plates. On the whole though, it was fine. Quite a nice atmosphere and the staff were all very polite. The room cost was reasonable (under £100). I think that with some capital investment, this could be a really great hotel. At the moment it’s a little bit mediocre but with considerable potential.
