Overall we was satisfied with our stay, celebrating a birthday which I'd informed them about before hand so was welcomed with rose petals on the bed and complimentary drinks which was nice. The room was clean over all but when getting in bed I noticed a stain on the bed sheet which made me feel quite uncomfortable and paying £122 for one night I expect cleanliness, this was very disappointing.

The hotel was nice. Only one member of staff doing reception and the bar so service was slow. The beds were big but the mattress far too soft left with sore back in the morning. Good location.

I stay at the hotel virtually every week and the service and facilities are always very consistent. Staff are always friendly and helpful. If I have any gripe it would be the breakfast facilities. When I started visiting the hotel breakfast was cooked to order and now it is a mini buffet though if you want something different like poached eggs rather than scrambled these will be cooked to order. Overall pleasant, friendly and close to the city centre.

Fantastic. Staff helped us find parking for our stay, they left a birthday message for my partner and included two free drinks to mark the occasion. The room was very clean, spacious and included the necessary facilities we needed i.e. coffee / ironing Breakfast was prepared well and there were lots of choices. Overall my partner and I were very happy with our stay and the staff should be commended

We specifically requested inter connecting rooms due to a frail friends health. This was confirmed when we checked in. The rooms were not connecting and we were informed that this was the head housekeepers job who was day off and the supervisor never actioned it

I stayed in a priviledge room which said had "a queen size bed" but it was actually two single bed put together and where the join of the bed was the mattress dipped which made it rather uncomfortable. Breakfast was meant to start at 6:30am but when I arrived at 6:30am, part of the English breakfast was served, no eggs of any sort in sight and the bacon and mushrooms were stone cold. The continental section only came out around 7:00am by which time I had to leave. There was also no milk or yoghurt for cereals either until 7:00am. I like a like continental breakfast and I did not get any which made me very unhappy given I had paid for breakfast and was not told this would be the state of it. The night before I ordered southern fried chicken with coleslaw and chips and chocolate fondant for afters. The southern fried chicken was cooked from frozen as was very obvious from texture and taste, there was no coleslaw and instead was given a tiny bit of salad which when I queries was told that there was no coleslaw. Finally the chocolate fondant was overcooked which made it a stoggy chocolate cake. I asked for an invoice for the dinner and was told that they couldn't give me one until checkout although I was paying for it then and there and the following morning when I asked for the invoice again at checkout, person at reception was clueless. Overall very very poor. Given I have stayed at Hotel Mercure before and it is a four star hotel, I expected a lot better.

I previously stayed at the hotel when it was the New Ellington. That was a very nice experience. I thought that the hotel would be the same as before just under new ownership. I found a very different hotel as the Mercure. Very, very disappointing. Not a pleasant experience. Horrible breakfast, not a nice bar or restaurant. Room was ok.

Stayed 2 nights and got food poisoning

Stayed 2 nights on a business trip. Arrived in the evening on the Wednesday and ordered the curry of the day which was a chicken tikka. The next morning I was awake at 4am feeling extremely ill and had food poisoning. I know it was the curry as my other meals that were day were porridge for breakfast and a sandwich and fruit for lunch. The sandwhich which I shared with my partner who was not ill and no on this trip.

We were in Leeds to watch a band and celebrate our second anniversary, the hotel was in a great location, clean, modern the staff were friendly and check in and out was very easy. We loved that the staff had acknowledged our special occasion and celebrated with a drink in the bar, the small touches in the room such as the coffee machine really make a difference too

Nice but could be better

It was nice, great location but was let down by small things. Had a queen size bed (which was 2 singles pushed together) but the sheet was too small so would not stay on and ruffled up every time you rolled over which made it very uncomfortable. The bathroom looked like it needed a refresh as the tile grout looked like it was a long time since it had been white. Phoned reception twice as the safe wasn’t working but nobody answered on either occasion so ended up having to go down and talk to someone.

Arrived late on Friday evening and TV not working in room. Bath rail also missing. Sheets didn't fit bed. Staff tried to resolve but unable to do so. Moved to another room on Saturday. On Sunday bar provision non-existant due to lack of stock. Staff indifferent.

A satisfactory stay that could have been better with some small tweaks.

We were disappointed at the lack of parking and despite being told to park in the NCP the barriers would not work for us. The bed looked brilliant but came apart in the middle which was uncomfortable and the bottom sheets did not fit so instantly rucked up once we got in. The tiles in the bathroom needed a good clean as mould was around lots of them. There was also a broken floor tile, broken mirror and the hook on the back of the door was broken too. We liked the lobby/ bar which had a nice relaxed atmosphere and loved the carved pumpkins and treats. Some of the staff were great- the maintenance man was really helpful and friendly when we arrived.
