Had a very comfortable stay despite the situation of covid 19. Pool gym and sauna was out of use as the hotel staff where placing our best interests at heart in looking after us the best way they could. Sanitizer in all locations. Breakfast was excellent. Good choice including omelette made to order. We hired a motorcycle for 2 days and they helped to ensure the safety of it. Lovely views from the pool.bar across copacabana beach.

Shower water was not warm enough

Hotel was incredibly empty due to the COVID pandemic. Anyhow, the water from shower was not warm enough and I could not take a shower in the day I was leaving. Notified reception that took too long to send someone to fix it. So I need to leave hotel without shower which was extremely uncomfortable - specially if you pay US$ 100/night. At closing bill they "offered" a 10% discount, which is the part correspondent to gratuity.

First day we were placed in a room without wifi !! for us travalling abroad and paying a lot 5 times the normal price ( as it was the season of caranaval), it was frustrating. With the manager of the hotel we did find a solution after 48 hours...

Not in line with Grand Mercure Brand

It seems the hotel has recently been acquired by Accor and is undergoing transmission to the Grand Mercure Brand. This is particularly evident with many areas of the hotel undergoing building work. There was construction noise during the day but this didn’t bother us though I can imagine other guests spending more time in the hotel during the day would have been disturbed. A lot of work is required for the hotel to meet the standards expected of a Grand Mercure or indeed even a regular Mercure. The hotel is somewhat dated and dilapidated with many of the features of the old brand remaining throughout. We stayed in a renovated room but it seemed the renovation had been somewhat haphazard and rushed. Essentially the room had been redecorated but many of the dated and worn features of the old hotel remained. There were a number of issues with the room; the room’s safe was broken and the cupboard it was in had a horrible damp smell. The lock on the door was also very temperamental and consistently took multiple attempts do unlock it with the keycard. The shower was mouldy and overall the bathroom was a little subpar for a Grand Mercure. Worst of all, there was no working hot water on arrival. We notified reception of this on four separate occasions and it was eventually fixed ~36 hours after we arrived... I suspect the staff were dealing with issues beyond their control as many of the hotel’s issues like hot water are likely as a result of old and dilapidated hotel building which was neglected by the previous owners. The staff were all really helpful and friendly especially those who helped us arrange onward travel with an excellent driver. Overall, the stay was satisfactory though we felt a little let down as the standards expected from a Grand Mercure for which we paid more for were not met and much improvement is needed. The hotel has a lot of potential though. Given the hotel’s excellent location I suspect that the full renovation to the standards of the Grand Mercure Brand will make this an excellent hotel. Though lots of work is needed in the meantime!

Another welcome addition from Accor to the Copacabana hotel scene. One of the Grand Mercure brand, the hotel is currently (February 2020) being renovated and updated to the standards expected by the brand. Good location. Nice staff.

I was at Grand Mercure by occasion of carnaval. The staff is very cordial. It has a good well served breakfast. And we also had a good lunch party on Saturday with feijoada and a samba band. OverLl great experience!

Great service among staff beginning with check-in and quick check out process. The gym is top notch and the cleaning staff was courteous and thorough. I wish the lobby still had an ATM machine.

Amazing location, a bit dated hotel

The best part of the hotel is the location and the roof top restaurant and pool with the view. However the hotel needs some upgrade. The windows are really old, not soundproof so the noise from outside (air conditioning) is disturbing. The breakfast was really good, really happy with it. Staff it the restaurant should speakat least a little English.

This hotel is perfectly located on Copacabana Beach, however thats where the positives end. The hotel is undergoing renovations and the consequences for the building works is that the hotel is quite dirty, giving us an overall disappointing stay.

Bottle of water from minibar frozen. Took it down to the bar to change since had been opened. The barmaid said the waters were different from what she had and couldn’t replace. She went to talk to some manager that held the ground. All other waters were frozen too. Spoke to the reception that assured they would ask the minibar staff to check the fridge and replace the items. Nothing done. The bellboy never took the luggage upstairs and no iron in the premises... contractor laundry service excuse. Breakfast chef extremely slow and probably first timer... actually never cooked an egg or tapioca before and was running the show kitchen. Not going back to this Grand Mercure... disappointed

Poor service, poor room, poor after stay

I've had problems with all areas in th hotel. Now I need my receipts from meals and can't get them. My saga began in my second day of stay when I notied my bathroom was full of mosquitoes. After changing rooms about 11PM when I asked for food and realized the table in the room does not support a tray with my request. Breakfast is a mess - there is no appropriate fork, knife and spoons for a breakfest meal + the noise in the restaurant is umbearable - waiters work like Vikings in a battle and I have no words about the crowd in there. In the last day thre were no enough spoons and wood palletes were given to substitute. To close all the mess, when doing my checkout took me ages because a newly implemented system that no one looks to understand how to operate. Complete nightmare!!!

Everything was fine, the only complaint I have is that they only give you 2 coffee pods and do not replace them. When I enquired about this they said the first 2 are free then you have to pay. I don't like that because everywhere else coffee is free. However, if that is the Policy, they need to tell you when you check in because I would have gladly paid for more coffee.

Check in took forever and the receptionist couldn’t tell me if the room had a sea view! The staff were unwilling to speak English but did it grudgingly with minimum information. I had the buffet dinner which was horrible although reasonably priced. I’d eaten entree by the time any one came to ask me if I would like a drink. I’d just about finished the main meal by the time the drink came. Breakfast was equally as bad with food that had been on the heat for hours, so the omelette was hard and scrambled eggs had split. The food from room service was by far the nicest meal. The instructions to put your code in the safe are wrong and by the time the maintenance man came to the room I’d missed my tour (the reception staff were unable to help with the safe issue). Reception just shrugged when I explained I had to wait so long for maintenance re the safe is missed my tour. All in all I wouldn’t go back, there are many other lovely hotels at Copacabana where the staff happily speak English and are happy to help!!
