Spent 1 night @ THE SEBEL Manukau 17/1 check-in was smooth but immediately entering the room I was greeted by this awful smell. The windows were covered in heavy mildew (which I took photos of) I immediately rang front desk and told them the room smells awful, which they changed, but the other room was not much better still smelled like sewage minus the mildew but was too tired to deal with going through another room change as I was in manukau for a function and just needed somewhere to change and relax for a couple hours. I have stayed in many accommodations and I must emphasised that THE SEBELS MANUKAU DOES NOT MEET THE BRAND STANDARDS. 1. The rooms do not have a clean smell on entry, with heavy mildew on windows (note we are in the middle of summer in NZ) 2. Rooms smell of sewage not sure if this is coming from the toilets due to improper cleaning/sanitising 3. Rooms have poor ventilation 4. There is a strong smell of cleaning products I’m guessing used on carpets to mask the odour making it unbearable to breathe in the room Even after opening the windows and running the AC the air quality in room did not improved I left the windows open @ 5pm and got back to the rooms around 11 pm and the room was still smelling awful. Due to the awful room conditions I was not comfortable to have breakfast as intended instead opted for an early morning checkout. Front desk staff however is very Welcoming.

Waited for the manager for three days to resolve issues with two rooms out of three rooms that I booked. Range hood not working, microwave will not operate and had marshmallows in the microwave from the previous guest which the receptionist said that she was sorry for the inconvenience. Air conditioning wasn’t working in one of the rooms. I was told that it was holiday season and no service person was available and that I manager has advised the head of reception to give me 10% off for the first night out of four days that I was there.

Overall i had a very good and comfortable stay except for 1 upset. The drain of basin in the toilet was so slow it probably needed cleaning. I left note for the cleaner but he probably ignored it.because it was same next day

Very nice room, great shower and my room service food pork belly was excellent. Breakfast was okay typical of a hotel. The cold section and toast selection was probably the better choice in hindsight. Excellent location and loads of safe parking. My room was the motorway side and you do hear the hum of the traffic quite early. It’s a great place for business or if you are staying a night before a flight.
