On Saturday December 13th, the electricity was cut around 6pm (at this time of the year, no more daylight). This can happen! I was in the shower and had to continue with the light of my mobile phone. Feasible. No other light, power. Leaving the room after 30mins, there was still no electricity. The emergency light in the corridor was not working. Only in the staircase. We took the five levels till the ground floor where hotel staff was welcoming those During the whole 30minutes period we were at our room, not one hotel staff member was at our floor checking if all hotel guests were doing ok under this electricity cut. This it totally unacceptable!! Some guests may have fallen in the dark, some may need help, some want information about the actions and estimated duration of the electricity cut. The morning after, no information or clarification received. Problems can happen - but how staff deal with problems really determine how the hotel will be evaluated. Communication is everything! The check out was a regular check out - nothing was said about the electricity cut. Before leaving reception, shared my concern - as always, hotel reception staff apologize for the inconvenience and say they understand and that they will escalate to management. I really have hoped that hotel management would have contacted me (we are 2 weeks further now). They did not. Again, problems can happen - how people deal with problems really determine how the hotel will be evaluated. Communication is everything.

We are truly sorry for the discomfort and uncertainty you experienced during the unexpected power outage, and we fully understand how unsettling this must have been. This was a very exceptional situation that we are not accustomed to. When the outage occurred, two members of our team remained on the ground floor to welcome guests, offer a drink for the inconvenience, and provide assistance. At the same time, another team member was making rounds in the hotel to help guide guests safely. As we had no information about the duration of the outage, it was unfortunately difficult to check individually with all rooms. We regret that no further explanation or follow-up was provided the next morning and understand your disappointment. Your feedback has been shared internally and is greatly appreciated, as it helps us improve our communication and procedures for unexpected situations. Thank you again for your honest comments. The room was clean, comfortable and quiet. The breakfast buffet was very generous. The hotel is well located close to Kursaal (where we went for the concert), the beach and Ostende night life.

The hotel is usually very good however it appeared this time that attention to detail was lacking. The cigarette bin was not emptied which created a mess outside the front door. The entrance matting was coming up and I nearly tripped over it at one point. The safe in the bedroom was not ready to use so I had to ask reception who promptly put this right, there was no shower gel when I went to have my first shower either. The rest of the stay was good, staff friendly as always and breakfast very good.
