Quite good but could be so much better

Impressive location, excellent room for my wife and I, good evening meal and polite helpful staff...but the hotel is badly let down by the utter shambles of the breakfast buffet dining. Inadequate staffing, poor selection of hot food, tables not cleaned and prepared in time, coffee machine inadequate. No staff around to help. The management of the breakfast dining is a disgrace.

Spa at Walton Hall Hotel

Didn't stay at the hotel but had a voucher for the spa. Lovely pool, nice staff and great relaxation room. Spa treatment was well below par. We had the Ishga Face and Body Experience. It states it's medium pressure back massage but was more like a tickle/very lite pressure and hardly touched my neck at all. Asked for more pressure but was told no. Came out more tense than I went in. I'm a fully trained therapist and have many years experience. I was not impressed and would not recommend.

Nice Hotel in a beautiful location

We stayed with our dog and had a wonderful time in the huge grounds of this nice hotel. The dog was allowed in the bar area and terrace and the handy fridge in our room (we chose a privilege room) was a great bonus.

nattfjaril Families - TripAdvisor review

We had an amazing 6-day stay in one of the comfortable apartments and can highly recommend the Mercure in Warwickshire. Although there’s a bit more to be done before the four stars shine brightly, the staff are working very hard to make the stay as welcoming and enjoyable as possible. We had a couple of issues and these were fixed very quickly. Breakfast was very good with both English and continental selections.

Hi Nattjaril Many thanks for your review, I was delighted to read of your positive stay with us. Thank you for acknowledging the teams efforts. We hope to see you again soon.

Very very disappointing stay, misled by pictures. Very different in reality. Be warned!

robbray4 Couples - TripAdvisor review

My wife booked us an overnight stay at the Walton Hall Hotel as a suprise for my 50th birthday. Looking at the website she chose a suite for the modern looking room, additional luxury touches and the stand alone baths. This was meant to be a treat after all… The reality is very different unfortunately. After standing at the deserted reception desk for about 10 minutes we were finally spoken to by a receptionist. No apology for keeping us waiting as we were wandering around reception trying to see if anyone was even there. Eventually booked in, we came to the “hall” where the suite is located. That to be honest is beautiful, very impressive… The room on the other hand is a huge let down. No free standing bath, old dilapidated furniture, a centre piece fireplace that looks like it’s going to fall off of the wall, a damaged and chipped bath, shower accessory tray mouldy and hanging off the wall and a shower door that’s dirty and rusty. Plus… probably worst of all, a removed plug socket with bare wires left exposed, clearly a health and safety issue! As for the “luxury touches”…. Nothing I wouldn’t get in a standard room anywhere in any other basic hotel. A Nespresso machine with 2 capsules, is that supposed to last us all day and into the morning? The machine itself still had dirty coffee waste water and a used capsule in it. I had to run the machine through half a dozen times until it eventually ran clean. The “complimentary drinks” you get with a suite are….. a can of tango and Pepsi, a small bottle of still and a small bottle of sparkling water. The bottle of Prosecco that my wife pre-ordered to be in the room when we arrived (we paid for an early check in) wasn’t here… she spoke with reception and when we were walking over to the spa nearly an hour later we saw a staff member walking across from reception with it. We came back from the spa, which was nice enough.. sat in the “living room” and decided to watch a bit of telly with our Prosecco, we eventually found the remote in the bedroom, there are two tv’s but only one remote… it’s held together with old sellotape and the batteries keep falling out.. again, not very luxury or what I’d expect in a suite. And then to my wife’s dismay… No hairdryer.. another call to reception…. and after being told to check every cupboard and drawer in the room, which we obviously already had, it was delivered 20 minutes later. As I am writing this she’s just shouted to me from in the shower that the “luxury toiletries” , which are hand pump bottles stuck to the wall like a Holiday Inn (no offence to Holiday Inn intended) are empty except for the shampoo, no shower gel no conditioner… I have now managed to speak with Sam the manager, after navigating through the front desk staff who really didn’t want me to talk to her, she has been very understanding and apologetic and promised to see what she can do to make it up to us. UPDATE Sam has refunded us the cost of the upgrade to a suite. The Spa is in the leisure facility… unfortunately for the spa, the pool, sauna and steam room are part of the leisure facility so your time is spent in there if you have a spa day booked. Very dated changing rooms with broken lockers, I tried 3 before one eventually locked, dirty toilet and shower area, the mirror looked like it had been wiped down with a dirty rag and empty cups and wrappers and coffee cups laying around the pool area. There are loungers around the pool and you are given a robe and towel but no slippers so make sure you have your flip flops! The Spa ladies were all very nice though and the treatment was lovely. Breakfast followed a similar pattern to the evening meal. The food itself was ok, cheap low quality ingredients, the sausages in particular are clearly the cheapest they could find, but, there’s plenty of it. We asked for a vegetarian sausage, what arrived was inedible, burnt and unrecognisable as food. There’s fresh fruit, cereals, toast, pastries and juices. Only one coffee machine was working for a restaurant full of people so expect to queue, and the coffee was weak and tasted of chemicals. Also… why the tiny plates? It’s a self service buffet style breakfast… If you’re booking a suite be sure to say you want one of the “nice” ones…. You don’t want room number 1…. Be specific if you are looking for the four poster beds and free standing baths which are pictured on the website and advertising…. There are no pictures of our room anywhere to be seen… Positives.. The house and grounds are beautiful, especially in the sun. Although limited and quite basic, the menu is ok and the lunch and evening food is pretty good and arrived quickly and was hot. Usual hotel prices on drinks, £25 for a bottle of basic rosé and £7.50 ish for a G&T. The bed was comfortable. Bedding is clean and smells fresh. Free WiFi is decent. All in all an unfortunately disappointing stay. As other people have said in their reviews, this COULD be a fantastic hotel if the management and staff took the care to make it a nice place to be. The website pushes the luxury country house hotel style, but apart from the house itself being very impressive, the rest of the experience is sadly lacking and definitely not luxurious.
