Room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Breakfast had a something for everyone, and the coffee was delicious. The front desk staff was extremely helpful with directions and restaurant recommendations.

Very good except for the lack of soundproofing between bedrooms.

I didn't feel particularly welcome or fussed over. The entire experience was "clinical" and cold. Clearly the hard product aspect of Mercure doesn't compare to Pullman or Sofitel. But is the strategy for the soft product - the service, to be just as clearly inferior? Is that how Accor wants to delineate the product lines? I don't think Plats/Diamonds would feel privileged at this Mercure. I certainly didn't get my welcome amenity or any service that acknowledges my status. If you don't care about these things, then good for you on your simple requirements - that's an achievement. Pity the rest of us who want to be fussed over. In other aspects, the location is "peripheral central" - it's definitely not central central. It's a 15min walk to Plaza Mayor, but Prado is just across the road. So it all depends on what you consider to be "center". The breakfast was standard mid-tier hotel - nothing to write home about and no great loss if skipped. The room was large but to be expected of a junior suite. The ensuite, however, uses a glass door which doesn't seal noise well and it has no futher internal door between the bath area and the toilet - so awkwardness ensues for the romantic couple when in use. The TV was located above the doorframe - suboptimal to say the least. My last three experiences with Mercure hasn't been good. This is the last time for me. Next time, if Pullman/Sofitel/MGallery isn't available or suitable in a city I visit, I would simply look at options outside of Accord instead of any of its mid-tier offerings. Accor needs to do better with the soft product of their mid-tier chains.

Our hotel has only 2 Junior Suites available, on the day of your arrival, we only had your room as a Suite arrival of the day, so if the previous guest has not checked out, you will understand that it is impossible for us to give you the room despite any category and all the desire that our team has to help you. In reference to the welcome amenities we will analyse what happened as they should have been placed in your room. The welcome drink, if you are not aware of this, we would like to inform you that it is currently available from the Accor app itself, so we no longer deliver any voucher on arrival, unless any guest request it. We also regret that you felt cold treatment from us, as our team is one of our strongest points and we are sure that if you felt that way, it was not the intention. However, we will look into what happened so that we can further improve the quality of our service. Once again we deeply sorry for the inconvenience that made your stay not as expected.
