Everyone is so busy during film festivals. Lobby is always crowded and full of non hotel guests. Everywhere seemed short staffed. The lounge is closed before the working hours for a private event, without noticing the elite members or any kind of compensation. The private event guests used CHARCOAL INFOOR makes the 16th floor very smoky. The hadn’t stopping putting things away and creating tableware noise up to 11PM! I had an oral complaint about everything and received nothing at checkout.

The room was very comfortable. We ate dinner and breakfast in the restaurant arriving about an hour after commencement of service each meal. There was a good selection of food but I struggled to identify dishes that did not contain ingredients that I am allergic to and I could not find someone to assist. Unfortunately much of the hot food was cold and the pastries/breads etc were nearly all dried out or stale.

We have been coming to the Sofitel in Xining for many years, ever since it opened. It’s still a pleasant stay but maybe the standards have dropped a bit. Everything just seemed a little dirty and musty. The first room they gave us smelled strongly of smoke after telling them we wanted a non smoking room. They quickly changed the room and apologized. The staff were all very nice. Also there were people smoking in the lobby, in the elevator, and in rooms with doors open to the hall. I know it’s Qinghai, but I think in 2026 guests staying at a 5 star hotel can go outside to smoke. There’s no need to allow smoking in the hotel. This was quite disappointing. Also little maintenance things, leaky shower head, bathroom drain wouldn’t plug well, etc. Needs some maintenance and a deep cleaning and better management.

We stayed in a suite on lounge floor. The room was not well-stocked with amenities and the carpet was no vacuumed at all over our 5 night stay. The door to the staff pantry adjacent to our suite was constantly open with the staff sitting inside the dirty room doing nothing. The lounge food was awful. When we asked the lounge staffer to make a dinner reservation in the hotel's restaurant the reply was, do it yourself. Our dinner at the Chinese restaurant first night was simply awful; after that we dined away. Breakfasts were good but long lines for coffee were not fun. Guests allowed to wear hotel slippers and their night clothes was rather downscale. Clearly, a lot of management issues in this property.
