Here’s a warmer, more balanced version that still gets your points across: --- We truly appreciated the GM’s (Cavaliere Giovanni Viterale) kind and thoughtful gesture—it made a meaningful difference to our stay and was a clear improvement from our previous visits. My kids especially enjoyed themselves because of the arrangements the GM has made, which really enhanced the overall experience for our family. That said, there are a few areas in the room that could benefit from some upgrading. The flickering lights, loose tiles in the shower cubicle, and a rusty mirror made the room feel a little worn. If not for the GM’s assurance and the surprised suite upgrade, the experience might not have been as comfortable, so we’re grateful for his effort to make our stay a better one. Given the price point and Sofitel’s 5-star positioning, there may be opportunities to further elevate the experience—particularly at the front desk, where the service could feel more aligned with a 5-star standard. On a positive note, the restaurant manager and an Indian server at Kwee Zeen (whose names I didn’t manage to get) were attentive and made dining enjoyable, though the service from other restaurant staff was less consistent. The staff at The Cliff were also consistently attentive, which we appreciated.

This was our third stay at the hotel, as we had previously enjoyed its hospitality and pet-friendly environment. However, this visit proved to be extremely disappointing on many fronts. Room: We were assigned Room 280 on the lower level, which is in urgent need of refurbishment. The room felt old and dim. The condition of the shower was particularly concerning—mosaic tiles kept coming loose and sticking to our feet every time we showered. There were multiple loose tiles on the shower floor, making it sharp and unsafe to step on. To make matters worse, all the room lights suddenly turned on at 4:00am. on our second night. This happened a total of three times, even after we turned them off and tried to go back to sleep. As a result, we were unable to rest properly. Dining: The dining experience was also very disappointing. While the service staff were friendly and attentive, the food quality fell far below expectations. At Cliff, the pasta was bland, as if no seasoning had been added. I had to request salt to season it myself, and I am not someone who typically prefers salty food. The pizza was even worse—there was a single, uncut chunk of sundried tomato dumped on one side, while the rest of the pizza was dry, floury, and completely bare. We were told it was prepared by a new staff member, which showed in the execution. At Kwee Zeen during breakfast, the egg station staff used pre-cooked sunny-side-up eggs from the buffet to prepare scrambled eggs, which was quite appalling. When questioned, he claimed it was the same. Only after our insistence did he prepare a fresh batch, though it resembled pan-fried eggs more than properly scrambled eggs. Additionally, there was no curry available to accompany the prata on the second day—only vegetarian options were offered. We also ordered light afternoon snacks snacks such as cheese sliders, fries, and spring rolls, but the food took more than 40 minutes to arrive. We had to follow up multiple times, and it was disappointing to see another table, who arrived at the same time, being served the same cheese sliders much earlier than us. Given this experience, we are uncertain if we will return, even though this used to be one of our favourite hotels for a short staycation.
