Hotel is nice, but The Cliff Restaurant is horrible

Customer review rating 4.2/5

Pe… Families - 22/11/2020 Confirmed reviews ALL

The hotel is nice, however, our experience at The Cliff Restaurant for lunch and dinner were horrible. We waited 2 hours for each meal before food was served. We were the first guests to arrive during lunch at 12pm, but we found that all the other table's guests were served and yet our food had not arrived. I really question the queue sequence. One of the orders was Pesto Pasta. The pasta at the top was overcooked and dry, but yet seemingly swimming in oil upon reaching the bottom of the plate. The barramundi was extremely saltish and the spring chicken was extremely dry. The meal was a total disaster!!! As it was a 2 hour wait for both lunch and dinner, we had literally wasted 4 hours doing nothing at your hotel. I would not come back again and would also share this terrible experience with my friends so that they do not fall prey as well.

Good stay, but poor service

Prashant S. Families - 22/11/2020 Confirmed reviews ALL

Staff is very friendly, but food service is very slow. Not sure if this is because of c-19 you guys have lesser staff to support in the kitchen. On average we waited for 1.5 hours for food to be served. I opted for a family package (breakfast, lunch, dinner exclusive) I couldn't plan anything else due to such long wait for food. Food is good and great ambience. I also requested for a cake on my anniversary day, it was told me that they couldn't arrange it since it's too many orders, so they can only make it one day later. I was fine with it but there was no cake next day as well. I was happy to pay for it.

Clean Resort & Great Customer Service

My two daughters and myself had a great time at Sofitel Sentosa. All staff were very friendly and helpful in all enquires asked. The resort and room are very well maintained and clean! We loved the sights of seeing the peacocks at the premises too. They added a lovely point for the resort. The only disappointment we experienced was the more than an hour wait for the in-room service and the no sight of the complimentary birthday cake. The overall stay experienced in Sofitel Sentosa is still great and definitely recommend your hotel to my friends and family.

The stay was great except that the twin room was facing the car foyer which has less privacy. Food was better than expected. Your lifeguard at pool on sunday morning was very professional, made us feel safe.

The staycation was a short but pleasant experience, which came with all meals provided as part of the package. The hotel was adorned with aesthetically pleasing furnishings, and gave a sense of tranquil and peacefulness during our stay. The staff were all very friendly and professional; Sarah from the Front Desk was very engaging and gave us a very warm welcome and fantastic first experience to Sofitel Sentosa. I would definitely recommend others to stay at this establishment.

I found the overall experience a pleasure from check in to the check out phase. Hospitality was good and the staff were very friendly and helpful. My parents and I enjoyed the one night stay at the Prestige Suite and the complementary spa outdoor facility access. We would surely love to come back next year!

Our stay was made memorable with us chosen as Guests of the day! The perks were awesome especially 50% off food and beverages from one of the main restaurant.

Room layout is good except balcony view is bad. Cant sit outside to relax. The room has a smell.

A little disappointed with the room, as we entered the room it has a smell which we do not know where it came from. We cant sit outside in the balcony as it is facing the carpark, no view!

Chris Families - 21/11/2020 Confirmed reviews ALL

The stay had a lot of promise but ultimately, poor management and poorly trained (or poor attitude) staff led to the stay falling flat. Breakfast service was terrible, lack of staff attending to anyone, orders got mixed up, and staff hospitality was lacking. Server pretty much just dump your food on your table similar to a fast food dining establishment. There was some service recovery from Glenn which was well appreciated but the general staff need a lot of training for an establishment like Sofitel. The positives was the better than average breakfast and also it was open till 11am which helps, given the limited seating capacity during COVID. Service at the lobby was horrendous with poor staff attitude. The supposed “manager”, Sarah, was more interested in hanging out with the team at the entrance lobby and gossiping. I had walked by without her greeting and continuing her chat in front of me until I greeted the group she was in. I also noted she was complaining about guests within earshot. This was not the first time and I think highly unacceptable in hospitality. In another instance, she chose to sit at the driveway entrance again while sending a young intern to correspond back and forth with me on my enquiry. I sat at the priority member desk (where we are members of) and I understood was her desk to manage. No one attended to us for some time despite approaching Sarah who actually brushed me off and told us to queue at the check in queue. Instead of attending to our query, she stood within eyesight outside of the priority desk area and busied herself asking guests at the lobby how they are instead. A helpful intern tried to answer our query but not only did we not get our query answered, Sarah continued staying out in the lobby and sent the intern into the priority desk corresponding with us ineffectively. If she was indisposed, she could have come over, told us she is unable to attend to us and the intern will help take down our response rather than having her send in her intern like a messenger bird while she stands outside in the lobby “hanging out” with the entrance staff. Just very bad service and hospitality. Also the young intern tried her best but ultimately gave a lot of wrong information trying to guess answers to my questions. While she shouldn’t have guessed if she didn’t know, Given her inexperience, I’d put this down to lousy staff training. At least she was earnest in resolving a guests’ needs and where I can’t say the same for the team. Finally, I understand housekeeping is being prompt with cleaning the rooms but as I was on holiday and I chose to stay in late, often they missed their “timing” to clean my room. This would be followed up with phone calls demanding me to give them a time for them to clean my room, which is weird as I imagined that I would be able to stay in and leave at my own free will without having to report to them my timetable. Perhaps a gentler reminder and the way this was handled would have given us a better experience. The rooms were clean but general maintenance does seem to be needed. A plug cover fell out and I noticed a food stain on the handle of the curtain handle. Seems like a previous guest was closing the curtain with dirty hands and it’s still there.

Overall good stay, but there were small hiccups

Victor C. W. H. Families - 20/11/2020 Confirmed reviews ALL

Overall pleasant experience, but there were small hiccups. I celebrated both my wife’s and daughter’s birthdays. There was initially a mixed up with the rooms - I was given the Luxury room facing the carpark instead of the Luxury Garden room which I booked. This was only noticed and made aware by me. The pool booking also didn’t register the slots that I chose and I had to show the email proof. The stay and good was otherwise good. But the coordination and information handling can be improved.

Disappointed Birthday Staycation

Customer review rating 4.2/5

Anonymous Couples - 20/11/2020 Confirmed reviews ALL

We were there on my actual birthday to celebrate the occasion after hearing how amazing Sofitel Sentosa is. Was all excited for the staycation but ended up feeling pretty upset. :( There are no major complaints about the room. Nice bed, full amenities provided and the room was clean and pretty well maintained. Love the bath tub too. I would say we really enjoyed the room. You also see beautiful peacocks and peahens around the resort, which is a lovely sight! It was a weekday. Service upon check in was fine. Waited for quite a while but that’s not a big issue. However, my huge disappointment came from The Cliff! Your crew who’s seating guests could have been more helpful. We had a reservation at 2pm, went at 1.45pm but were told the outlet’s full and to come back at 2.15pm. Fine, we went back at 2.15pm but was upset to hear from the same crew that the restaurant’s still full! We needed to wait and only outdoor seating was going to be available. We waited abit longer to get a seat and guess what? On a scorching hot afternoon at 2.30pm, she assigned us a seat directly under the sun when there were seats under shade! Hence, we requested to be seated under the shade. We had a reservation and we waited long enough. That was not the end. Our appetizers were served after 3pm and the mains took another 15-20 minutes. Our drinks were only served at the end of our meal. We checked with a couple of crews on duty but only one of them came back with updates but still, no apology. Ugh, that’s frustrating for a birthday lunch! Took up so much of our time that we had to give up our afternoon stroll! What added on to the disappointment was to be asked if we could do dinner at 6.30pm if we want indoor seats! Ouch! I just finished lunch at 4-ish in the afternoon and your same crew who sat us down suggested us to eat dinner at 6.30pm! My original reservation was at 7pm and I felt like we had to stuff ourselves with food, not a good feeling definitely! Dinner was slightly better but we still had to wait another 30 minutes for our food to be served. Additional feedback about the pool. Really crowded at 5pm and your staff who’s allowing people in, didn’t properly check if we had a reservation before allowing us to enter. They merely asked for our room number when I actually made the reservation on your official website without the room number of course. I wouldn’t want to assume but seems so that they just allow anyone who claimed to have reservations to enter. Also, I read some reviews about the phone line? It’s true that we had to wait for countless rings before someone picks up the call or to no avail if you need to request for something. It’s a shame! Such a lovely hotel but the management would really need to train the staff better to offer better service recovery and how to be tactful when speaking to guests. I didn’t kick up a big fuss at the hotel, but am still feeling sour over this. Thankfully we still had a nice room to enjoy but honestly, my birthday lunch and dinner experiences were ruined.

This was an wedding anniversary staycation, we had our wedding at this hotel 8 years back. On initial checking in at 2.30pm was pleasantly surprised to find that we would receiving a cake as a surprise for my wife. Alas,it went downhill from there. We only received our room key at 3.45pm! Also, there was no cake sent to the room for our 3 day stay! Promise unfulfilled. So what a let down. To cap it off, our toilet flush was faulty on the 1st night. Breakfast food standard was also pretty mediocre to bad.
