The Good (Honestly, Almost Everything Else) ​The Property & Rooms: Aside from the complaints below, the hotel is hard to fault physically. The historic architecture, charm, and interior design are gorgeous, everything was impeccably clean, and structurally the rooms are fantastic. ​The Vibe: Hidden spots like the on-site speakeasy add a genuinely cool layer to the atmosphere. If you just look at the physical hotel itself, it's almost a 10/10. ​The Bad & The Ugly ​First Impressions & Attitude: Unfortunately, the welcome sets a rough tone. The door attendant looked us up and down and literally asked, "What are you here for?"—as if walking into a hotel for its intended purpose is a crime. ​Maintenance & Service Misses: Late at night, our hot water stopped working. Management moved us promptly, but the replacement room was a noticeable downgrade and had a persistent sewage smell in the bathroom. To top it off, on our last night, the "butler" turndown service couldn't even be bothered to close the blinds. ​Overhyped Dining: Staff proudly claimed their restaurant, Caleta, is in the top 50 Central American restaurants. A quick reality check: it's actually down at #91 on the extended list. ​The "Snob Tax": Maybe it's just the average person in me talking, but the pricing feels completely detached from reality. Charging $6 for a can of Coke, $10 for a basic chocolate bar, $30 for a butler to turn on a bathtub, and $80 for a $12 bottle of wine is tough to swallow. ​The Verdict ​It hurts to rate this place a 3 out of 5 because, visually and structurally, the place was almost perfect. But for the price point, the experience feels tailored exclusively for snobs rather than offering genuine hospitality. I'll probably skip coming back and let Chase know it doesn't live up to a true premium standard. Honestly, if you want a better overall vacation where everything is included and priced fairly, you could book an all-inclusive like a RIU for two-thirds the price and have an 80% better time.

We have traveled all over the world for 50 years. We stay at Four Seasons, Ritz-Carltons, Mandarin Orientals, and many other luxury brands. Compared to this cohort and these experiences, overall our stay at Sofitel in Panama City ranked as exceptional. Rooms and bathrooms are large and well-appointed, not at the level of the Ritz in Paris or the Connaught in London, but very, very good. Staff and service were among the top five stays we have had worldwide. For example, we requested an extra comforter on the first night, and on the subsequent three nights, the bed was made specifically in our customary manner, which is not how anyone else requests their bed anywhere in the world. This was done without prompting. Computer wires were tied up. Shoes were placed appropriately out of the way, and everything else in terms of housekeeping was at the highest level. Breakfast was equally exceptional. The food at the two locations in the hotel is among the best food in Panama City. The the pool and spa, looking out over the Pacific, were memorable. Negatives? Navigation around the hotel, with various towers and elevator banks, is confusing and annoying. Small price to pay for an outstanding and exceptional hotel.

This hotel is beautifully designed and the service is extraordinary. The staff are all so professional, pleasant and make the experience so relaxing as every detail has been thought of. My daughter felt extra special with her own slippers and robe. And I loved how all the staff knew to convert tall glass drinks into plastic cups with a lid for a child to avoid accidents.

BEAUTIFUL hotel, lovely staff, and a vacation I’ll never forget. Sofitel Legend Casco Viejo was absolutely perfect. The staff are so attentive and friendly.
