Central, but tired rooms

TripAdvisor rating 4.0/5

C G Families - TripAdvisor review

Central location (reasonably) and a good price for a Saturday night- 2 proper beds in the twin rather than a bed and sofabed. Interesting double-function bathroom door and a decent shower. Breakfast was cheap and cheerful and check-in/ check-out easy. Only downside is rooms are a bit tired and the air con didn’t work properly, with windows sealed closed.

Well located

Bed was a bit 'dipped' when in it. Staff helpful. Bathroom spotless.

Thank you for the opportunity to feed back. A first stay in Birmingham specifically to visit the Christmas Market and chosen for the central location. The room , was clean and the ensuite really functional not too cramped and very neatly designed. The room furnishings however seemed to be somewhat 'wayward' given it seemed to be advertised as a step up from budget and having 'syle' . The room was even named 'The Queen' and we have yet to discovered why or what this meant. Nothing broken but no drawers for storage. And only one bedside table to the double bed. Hospitality was provided in the room ( kettle and instant drinks) TV plugs all worked fine , but wifi seemed a little 'wobbly'. and the overhead bed lamps were a little that way inclined as well. . Room well cleaned on second day. and drinks re stocked. A desk (......a rather long desk for no apparent reason, and a single chair was provided which had to became the rather unstable bedside table. It wouldn't hold a drink well and with the phone would tend to travel off the surface . And a B. bag. Not too useful , however trendy, for a man of my 73 years. And a curious folding object with straps that we had no experience with but presume it might be a cot stand? A case or trunk stand? Like the B. bag we left well alone, unwilling to engage with either. The room was on third floor and pretty much the view was what you would expect from an inner city location, this one had the advantage of watching hairdressing students in the college opposite. But view wasn't a priority , comfort was. So this room overall was reasonably comfortable and roomy enough for two of us but design and contents wise didnt match my ideas of a room with 'style.' ? Lifts were sluggish generally , only found one servicing the floors and we were on the third. I personally would have used the stairs but they seemed to be emergency only. Even so it wasn't a hardship to wait. and have a bit of patience. That aside it was very friendly and not corporate 'faceless'. in feel. The breakfast facility was a boon and the relaxed way it was available was great and very in reasonable at the price. The other great thing was the availability of coffee from a decent machine for guests in the lobby , and the use of the sitting area downstairs . Great to unwind there before returning to the room, or great if you've just missed breakfast! We found the front desk staff were very friendly and helpful . So overall, the price for the stay was not a huge amount more than other 'budget' chain hotels in the area, that I have looked at, and I think what we got from the stay was a little more value. The room organisation and decor is always a matter of taste but may be more of what a customer might need ... B. bags are not high on my personal needs list but bedside tables are and a draw or two should you need to be tidy.. So for us maybe we felt it was slightly'passed its best' but it came with a relaxed, friendly and comfortable atmosphere. Would we choose to stay here again .? Yes we would.

Good location for me

We booked the ibis styles as it was convenient for the conference we were attending. We were asked for details at check-in, even though I had checked in on line. The room was great and staff were helpful. It was good to know that parking was secure.

Thank you for sharing your feedback! We're glad to hear that you found the location convenient for your conference and that you had a comfortable stay with us. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the check-in process and will work to ensure a smoother experience for future guests. We're also pleased to know that the room met your expectations and that you felt secure with our parking. We hope to welcome you back soon! Ionela Front Of House Manager
