Brown Skinned People faced discrimination and humiliating behaviour from staff.

Discriminatory behaviour towards Brown Skinned Guests. I am an Indian and I Stayed with my Son aged 13 years. The hospitality and this hotel and staff's terribly discriminatory behaviour (refusing to be seated, looking up and down with disdain, segregated seating in bar area and not giving any dining option but in room dining; after a long day at the reef was too much). It left a bitter taste and living in Pullman ever will be a question. The supervisor staff Valentina refused to even look at us or take our query; she made us wait for ten minutes at restaurant reception before someone guiding her to us. When it became apparent to her that she couldn't ignore us anymore is when she came to us. She knew we were present and yet she refused to even acknowledge it. and there was only one other white couple who was there besides us. After attending to them she attended logistical work of her restaurant and when she was walking away without coming to us; is when other staff at restaurant responded to our multiple requests of "excuse me" as he was Embarrassed that she chose to ignore us. When prompted by her colleague; Valentina couldn't ignore us any longer; she came to us with exasperated sigh and rolling of eyes. Told us rudely that the restaurant does not have space, Did we have a reservation? to which i said' i am sorry i didn't know we needed a reservation; we live here (at the hotel as guests) so can we please eat here? She was very surprised; couldn't digest this; She asked with complete indiscretion "YOU" (emphasize on you) stay here?" She apparently couldn't believe that a brown Indian can be living in her hotel. From then on it went on.... she insisted we cannot be seated, Upon being asked to give an alternative; she insisted only room service was an option. She did not tell us there was ample space available on the Bar side and we could be seated there. when i asked her can we be seated at on the side of the Bar she showed us the table that was far segregated from rest of the Bar where few white families were seated with children. Further when i asked for her supervisor, she smiled gleefully and said "i Am the supervisor" so i asked for her manager, she refused to get him. i insisted on finally the duty manager of the Hotel or GM is when some other employee intervened and took me there. Let me say here that rest of the staff and the manager were very nice. they even offered to waive off my dinner bill if i ordered room service etc and were apologetic. But honestly what would a AUD150 waive off be; if you are billing the hotel more than AUD1500? The entire 4 days experience of Cairns itself felt like a sour memory because of the Hotel Staff terribly discriminatory Behaviour. We spend for pleasant memories, and this was honestly humiliating, bitter, undignified treatment and horrible and failed us completely as a luxury Hotel and killed our joy of entire Cairns stay. I must put it here that the rest of the hotel staff truly tried their best to make us comfortable after this incidence. And we appreciate the efforts. Insight: If you are Brown avoid this hotel because its not worth spending so much to be treated like a doormat. The priority desk for check in for Accor Members also was surprised to see a brown person coming to a priority check in. :) but he quickly recovered. ;) TIP : The ocean facing rooms given to me had partly blocked view of the ocean and to pay a premium for the same didn't make sense. Some rooms are Old and some a freshly refurbished. This is not at the Ocean and it 5 minute walk inside. Staying at Hotels at the Ocean may be more worth the money.

Very friendly staff, great bar selection, daily room turnover and steamed sheets, attention to detail. Excellent location , awesome vibe and views of the water and mountains! The food was also great :)

Bad experience with promised refunds

To all of you staying in an unrenovated room at Pullman International Cairns, ASK FOR A REFUND! We stayed at this hotel 2 nights but after one night in an unrenovated room we complained and were moved to a renovated room. For an insight in the unrenovated rooms, take a look at some other reviews of this hotel. We wrote an email when we came home and we were offered a refund into our account for one night. Only thing was “their system” said they had to pay to Expedia, since we had booked through them. To get money out of Expedia was just as hopeless as Pullman. We had a lot of email correspondence both with Angelina and the General Manager. They are very good at that, lots of excuses. We used to like Pullmans Hotel but will NEVER stay there again. Great hotel to stay in Cairns

Close proximity to the Esplanade, cruise ports, casino, shopping, Rusty market, convention centre and night market. Underground parking and buffet breakfast available. Staff are very professional and helpful. Special mention to Jessie from the concierge, 15th floor housekeepers and the front desk ladies. The classic room is a bit outdated but clean and the bed are comfy. Highly recommended.

Love this hotel We always get a fabulous room overlooking the water Our room had just been renovated I think One thing that I can say and I should have suggested it there is no power point in the bathroom to use the hair dryer. The bar area was the closest power point but needs a small mirror there There were heaps of power points in the room but none to use the hair dryer successfully
