We stayed here as a family of four while on holiday. We all enjoyed the pool facilities. My kids were entertained for hours. We ate on site several times and found the food to be tasty and well presented. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The hotel has a great location next door to the aquarium and about a block from the esplanade.

I stayed here for 4 nights with my 2 kids aged 5 & 7 in the July school holidays and it was incredible!! I have no doubt we will be back, so thank you. PROS: Rooms were clean and big (though also some cons to do with this) Pool - this is a win for everyone! It was VERY cold in July, but I still swam every day once I’d warmed up enough. My kids were in there all day, no trouble! The sandy part on one end was so perfect…my son just loves playing in the sand - it was wonderful. And the swim up bar is always a win (though also a con re wait times). Location - a block away from the main drag with endless restaurants, night market, ferris wheel. About 10 mins walk to the marina if taking a boat School holiday activities - they had organised activities over the weekends during school holidays. We stayed Tuesday to Saturday, so only had a brief glimpse of the fun, but it was the hi light for my kids (and me seeing them having so much fun with all the other kids). Staff - huge shout out to Mimi for the kids activities and Melanie at breakfast….they are amazing humans! CONS: Pool bar - the swim up bar is obviously a huge attraction, but gets very busy, and it’s very cold waiting in the water to be served. My biggest tip to the hotel is to have 2 staff serving the pool side, and 2 at the back, during the busiest hours. It was only ever 2 or 3 people, to serve both sides….and most people seemed to be ordering cocktails. I think the best way to do it is to have a designated cocktail line on both sides, so the others - who just want an ice cream, or a beer / lemonade, don’t have to wait for an endless order of cocktails ahead of them. Pillows - they were all the feather down pillows, and I got a very sore neck. Admittedly I didn’t ask if there were any other types, but I didn’t see any signage telling me it was an option. Maid service: there were no toilet brushes in the room, and even after the room had been serviced - dirty toilets prevailed. I would have cleaned them properly myself, if a toilet brush was provided. Staff at reception: I was given incorrect information relating to the cost of breakfast, and my Accor membership benefits, and how to obtain these…though Melanie at breakfast helped me understand it, and also helped me get the maximum benefits for my stay (seeing the misinformation passed on to me on check in). I had been told it was cheaper for me to pre book breakfast on check in, but in doing so this voids your ability to get the 50% discount if you’re an Accor member. You need to show your accor card every morning at breakfast, and they apply the discount then and there. If it’s booked at reception, you save $5, but this voids the 50% discount.

We loved out stay at Cairns Novotel. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was neat and clean. A highlight was the pool. Our kids loved it. The beach section is such a great feature. If I can flaw a couple of things which aren’t hugely major they would be the birds on the outdoor area. We ordered food which was delivered to our table which we weren’t at at the time, the pigeons got to it before we did and made a lovely mess as they devoured our food. Thankfully it was replaced for us. My other issue is the fragrance in the main foyer area. It’s quite powerful and I could even small it outside. The location is great. I wish we’d discovered the back gate entrance sooner as it made getting to the esplanade a little quicker. The buffer breakfast was great, catering to kids and adults. I liked the different options available for now eggs were cooked. My kids loved the pancake station. Overall a really great stay. If we’re ever able to we will be back.
