We thoroughly enjoyed our 4-day stay. We found the hotel’s location on Viaduct Harbour and its proximity to the docks and CBD to be ideal for exploring Auckland. We found the service to be impeccable and were delighted with the breakfast options and quality of the food. We appreciated the very comfortable bed and luxurious bathroom but did not like the placement of the TV which, instead of facing the bed or some comfortable seating, faced a wall.

1. The room was a bit noisy, especially on Saturday night due to modified cars. 2. Air conditioning was amazing and glad it was fixed- may be change to digital as it was either too cold or hard to adjust temperature? 3. Club was great- great selection. Would be better if there was a Cognac. 4. Breakfast was great- delicious. 5. Concierge is very friendly and great.

While the hotel common space and guest rooms are well appointed, there is no entrance experience. No doorman, no bellmen present, no concierge, and a front desk staff that is almost 100 steps away and not visible from the entrance. We also had a non-working bathroom faucet that was never fixed during the 3 days we were there. But by far the worst part of the Sofitel Auckland experience is the fact that they share space with a budget discount hotel. The Marsden charges one third the price and their guests reflect that. The keycard access to Sofitel rooms is not applicable to the Marsden guests, so who knows who is roaming the hotel floors. The Marsden front desk operated out of a hotel room on the third floor, and were rude and aggressive to us as we came and went past their “room”. I would NEVER recommend this hotel and expect the typical Sofitel experience. Honestly, the Marsden will charge you less for the same rooms.

We arrived in the morning after traveling for 20 hours. Our rooms were ready and we appreciated the ability to get in and freshen up before resting in the afternoon. The rooms were well appointed and the minibar and snacks were a good addition. The accessible room was well designed but maneuvering a wheelchair would be difficult. Breakfast via room service was good as well as the offerings in the restaurant. Dinner was outstanding! The selection was tempting and it was hard to decide what to get. Sofitel was a great choice for us and we enjoyed beautiful Auckland!
