We booked hotel while it still had 5 stars. First disappointment was that it lost one star by the time we came, and I can understand why. There’s really a lot of potential, but it falls short at quite a few things. 1) Shuttle service. This one is not transparent. After multiple back and forth messages with transfer suggested by hotel, price ended up being much higher, of course, at cost of us guests, and that higher price was clarified finally a day before arrive, when it was too late to book anything else. I have sent multiple messages before, and didn’t get clear answer until last day. It was brushed off as miscommunication and organiser’s translate app not working. Could happen, but when it comes at cost of the guest, and is ignored, not a pleasant start of the trip. 2) Pool area is beautiful, together with jacuzzi, but it’s not cleaned. There was a storm on our first day, and pool was full of leaves the next night even! 3) Spa is advertised to work until 10PM. However during our stay, it was closed for massage before 8PM. And there was no massage going on, it was just closed. 4) Restaurant is serving bland, undercooked, potentially hazardous food (raw pork!). When raised to waiter, they didn’t say anything, just took the plate and brought a new one a bit later. Later with restaurant manager and reception it was handled that dinner won’t be charged, and they apologised, which is appreciated gesture, given that we had no appetite after being served such dish. Given the location, which is beautiful and in the jungle, above amenities should work better, as guests don’t have much alternatives. If guests can’t use spa or pool, and restaurant leaves bad taste, there’s not much to do. On a positive note, reception staff was professional and handled all the matters well and efficiently.

Lovely room, great location. So peaceful tucked away amongst the trees. Very interesting architecture and decor. Breakfast was great and staff are all lovely.

This place needs some attention to freshen up compared to competitors offerings but has a charm that I think is reflected in the reviews. Big lines to check in, yes, older style yet still stylish decor, yes, amazing rooftop views, yes, some great customer service, yes. You can't just rate it out of 5 or 10. It is loveable. "Warts and all" as they say. I'd stay again.
