Upgrade the WiFi network

Sway_MC Business - TripAdvisor review

Stayed here for business. Expected to get some work done, but that was not the case. WiFi connection is largely unusable and the hotel’s internal network is in desperate need of an upgrade or better routing settings applied. I ran a speed test - and whilst speeds are average at best, the ping/latency times are abhorrent. An average ping of 224ms with a peak of 779ms on download and average 579ms and peak of 2578ms on upload… we are talking about a user experience of a dial-up connection from the 1990’s! Totally unusable for anything that isn’t plain text reading: forget YouTube, social media, work, etc. Mobile phone coverage in the room is useless - I literally had to step out to the street for anything data related. Unacceptable in 2024. Went to bed very early because of nothing to do due to the unusable internet connection. Half an hour later, the fire alarm goes off and the hotel is fully evacuated with the fire brigade in attendance. No explanation or follow up from staff. During the evacuation they were more interested in twiddling around on their phones (presumably this was a rare opportunity for their phones to connect to the outside world, being out in the street) rather than attending to guests during the evacuation. (25/06) Thankfully one more night here left then I will be back to the real world from the Bronze Age…

Hotel location is near to train station which is good. However, there isn’t any water point in the hotel to refill our water in the evening and instead we were offered to purchase water from the restaurant. End up we went over to St James Quarter to refill our water bottles. The fan in the room was very noisy. We appreciate if you can replace with a quieter fan. The toilet bathing area has bad layout. There isn’t any door or shower curtain to block the water from showing to the toilet floor.

Dear Raymond Yeow Hoe C., Thank you for your review. We appreciate your positive comments about our hotel's central location near the train station. We apologise for the inconvenience regarding the lack of water points. We regret that you were not informed that our bar can refill your water bottles; I will pass this on to our food and beverage team to prevent any further occurrence. Additionally, we apologise for the noisy fan in your room. Your feedback on the bathroom layout and breakfast variety is duly noted and will be considered for improvement. We will also look into providing assistance with bags on the ground floor. Your insights are valuable to us as we strive to enhance our guests' experience. We appreciate your sharing your concerns, and it is our hope that you will give us the opportunity to better serve you in the near future. Kind Regards Vicki Guest Services Team

The President Hotel is in a very good location …..handy to Russell Square station and also within walking distance of most areas. Rooms very comfortable and staff obliging. A great stay while in London.

Well located. That is about it.

I stayed in the Mercure in Edinburgh, and it wasn’t a comfortable stay, the bed was small and extremely uncomfortable. There is no air conditioning meaning that the windows needed to be opened at night to generators which made noise and the temperature fluctuated wildly from freezing to boiling making sleep difficult. The curtains whilst new did not close properly letting light in. The WiFi in the room was totally useless and unreliable- web pages took a few minutes to load. There was no refrigerator in the room, so no chilled water available. The bathroom sink was so small it was not possible to use properly plus it had a mixer tap which was not obvious to know where cold begins and hot ends. The toilet required pumping to flush. No feather pillows were available and the synthetic ones were uncomfortable. Upon arrival (noon) my room was not available but housekeeping was ‘prioritised’ I live in hotels and know that it takes no more than 15 mins to make a room ready so even if this was the case the wait should have been no more than 30-40 mins, over 2 hours later my room was ready so the benefit of early check-in was honoured but honestly it should have been so much smoother. No room upgrade was offered which I’d have paid for despite it being a benefit. I’d have liked to have cancelled my booking and go elsewhere. Highlight of the hotel were smiles from the staff but that was it, oh and checking out.
