TL:DR - Staff are trying really hard with poor and substandard facilities. I'm writing this early in my stay at Mercure Brighton Seafront, but I think that's fine as there's not much the hotel can do right now to fix the issues. I haven't complained to reception and to be honest, there's nothing they can do to resolve issues. It's very tired and generally substandard. I can see what the designers have tried to do, and in the main public areas, it does look good but the rest of the hotel is a let down. It's all the little things that makes a location worthy of recommendation that this place fails on. Radiator in room has a broken thermo valve, walls in the corridors are scuffed and painted badly, carpets in public areas are in desperate need on cleaning, lighting is almost all 'daylight' throughout, giving that anemic cold feel, overpowering mint smell in my room to mask the tired or damp smell, no sockets next to bed, no fridge, smell of weed while going back to our room. It all adds up to generally a poor hotel and certainly not worthy of the 4.1 rating on Accor ratings. As an Accor Gold member, I've stayed in many locations in South East Asia and the UK. Our last stay was at MGallery Liverpool at £100 a night, which was a hotel with a quality of facilities that would just embarrass this Brighton Seafront hotel. Yes the location is great, and the staff are really trying, but when it comes down to it - for what you're paying, it's not up to scratch.

Have stayed here every time I go to Brighton even though I check other hotels. Comfortable rooms, great breakfast, good location. Have to say that on my recent stay the reception staff were fantastic, lovely welcome and friendly. I asked to stay an extra night last minute and they went way above and beyond my expectations to sort it out. Had a great stay and will definitely book again.

Staff were welcoming and accommodating, couple of issues - bathroom was really small for a Prestige Room, had to shuffle around the door to use toilet. Breakfast Room was too small - not enough seats, even tea and coffee was self service from a machine - could be alot better. Generally the carpets in the room and especially the bar area were stained and dirty.

Well located, Exellent room, extremely comfortable bed! Very clean bathroom, soo peaceful and quiet room. Extra ordinarily and freind staff, both the reception and kitchen /bar staff. The deco of the hotel is 'a wow!' factor.

Had superb amazing birthday weekend! The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and on top made me feel special by offering us a quiet side of the bedroom wing and also treat us with free drinks and chocolates. Thank you to all merecure staff. God bless for now x
