Good Wedding, Poor Room

Customer review rating 3.0/5

Hb Families - Confirmed reviews ALL

Our family of 5, 2 Adults and 3 Kids stayed for the weekend. Initial impressions were great, the lobby is clean and welcoming. The wedding day was fantastic, however probably could have done with a few more members of staff as well as a bit better organization / communication from the Wedding Co-Ordinator. The bar was okay, lacking a large selection as previously sold out on the Friday, hotel prices so not the cheapest. The room for 5 people was quite small however worked for the weekend. The room defiantly needs a refurb of some sort. The carpet by the curtain had all matted and left bear cords, the bathroom definitely needed a deep clean as the tile grout was covered in mould and the floor was not that clean. Breakfast was good enough, except a 20 min wait between asking form 4 friend eggs at the same time. Positive points; welcoming lobby, nice gardens and warm pool.

Charming rural feel

A very brief visit, just two nights but very comfortable, lovely pool and pleasant staff.

Very dated needs a good clean but great location

Attended for a wedding. The wedding was beautiful and the people running it were really helpful... however the bar staff lacked any oomph and at one point we had to go and find someone so we could be served. The rooms, although comfy beds were very dated, sliding doors that didn't close, bathrooms that smelt and stained sinks... ever the shower screen runner was green.

Looking forward to coming back

Including our honeymoon 40 years ago, our summer visit this year was a third one for us. Some things never change. Being a fine historic building, the façade looks the same as ever. The garden layout is similar, and the staff welcome and restaurant service remain excellent. The pool may not have been heated 40 years ago, but it is now, and although used by day visitors, there was little activity mid-week for life guards to manage. The wonderful walks behind the hotel up Box Hill and opposite to Denbies Hillside make this a great place to keep visiting. To include free parking, be sure to book direct rather than with an internet booking site.

Thank you for a wonderful weekend

I want to say thank you so much to the entire team for making our wedding day run smoothly, particularly Eloise on front desk, Charlotte the coordinator and the head of catering Sam. Everyone was so thoughtful and pay attention to detail - such as drying out the bouquets and setting up some of the decorations as evening table decor, (an oversight by me). You guys really think about what will help the day run smoothly which is not an easy thing since I had several vendors coming and going, wondering relatives and a lot of people staying overnight. Me and Rob had the best day and the barn really did look beautiful, thank you so much.
