Mercure Box Hill Burford Bridge Hotel 4 stars

Our first experience of staying at a mercure hotel was nothing more than average. Upon arrival, the staff were very helpful and efficient. Our room was clean but was showing signs of a hard life. Our hospitality tray was hidden in the bottom of the wardrobe, and when we put it on the table to use, it left little room for anything else. Breakfast was tasty with a good choice of cereals /juices/cooked items but the coffee was stewed and too strong.

Hotel clean & warm, staff friendly & helpful. Privilege Room comfortable. Main meals mediocre, evening buffets not to our taste, not what we expected.

Warm welcome by front of house staff. Room disappointing with clearly a sofa missing in the room. Poor maintenance. Walls damaged.

The booking / confirmation process was tricky. Having made a reservation, I was then emailed an offer that was 30% saving if I paid in advance. I took up the offer but this was not reflected inn the emails I received prior to arrival. It took a long phonecall with the hotel to confirm the details of the reservation. Upon arrival the check-in was smooth and the staff were very helpful. The room was well appointed and comfortable. I did note that the bathroom bin had not been emptied from the previous guest - a little disappointing. All was well until 3.30am when a group of other guests were arguing very loudly almost outside my door. I really did not manage to sleep well after that. Such a shame.

Everything was very good, and the staff helpful. Heating in room 200 was not good and the AC heater did not work however the staff got me a radiator. Food was excellent and we enjoyed ourselves. The Christmas evening dinner was a bit disappointing compared to the Boxing Day evening dinner. I would come back again.

Lovely hotel and despite Christmas rush all staff did their best. Our room was on the main floor and the central heating could not cope with the cold we were given an extra heater immediately. One small issue - the plug in the hand wash basin did not work properly and water took too long to drain.

Very chaotic. Staff friendly and tried but didn’t really know what to do. No-one to greet us/show us table. Didn’t get food as described. We asked for wine list - never arrived. When it was pointed out that certain things were missing from stated menu, staff unable to help. Too many people packed in - was not the special day we thought it would be.

We had a 2 night Christmas package. Food, drink and hospitality service was excellent. Tithe bar for Xmas lunch was lovely. Little extras like welcome cocktails much appreciated. However, room and housekeeping were less impressive. Toilet was very dirty and hadn't been cleaned when we arrived in our room although the rest of the bathroom had been cleaned (very off putting). The room needed more thorough cleaning - under furniture, in corners etc. We chose not to have room cleaned on Christmas Day to help cleaners and were given a pack with clean towels, water etc but no teas, coffees and milks. Reception didn't keep supplies which is unusual in our experience.

Reasonably comfortable with excellent food/The welcome tray provided in the room was hard to find and somewhat lacking My feeling was that the mattress is due for renewal. No welcome feel about the room.

We are always very happy to stay at the Mercure Boxhill. I thought the Xmas stocking on the door on Xmas day & the Xmas card was an exceptionally thoughtful touch. The buffet breakfast was as good as ever.

Pleasant enough, but does not seem to measure up to past experiences. The food was excellent in every way, but the 'welcome' tray in the room is somewhat lacking. Most of the time, the staff were pleasant & helpful, but past services were somewhat lacking.

It was the first time I had stayed at your hotel.They made you feel very welcome the bedroom was very clean very large. Staff in restaurants were very helpful and the system of working was good no delays.Bar staff also helpful and efficient. Had 2 disappointments you advertised there would be the TV on to see the queens speech when we found the tv it was not on, went to reception a lady came and tried to get the tv on but could not by that time the speech had finished so we missed it. Also you advertised a light finger buffet would be served on Christmas evening, it was hot food served and when we went to get some about half hour of being told restaurant was open there was a little pasta and about 6 little tarts left, everything else was gone. I went to the reception saying no food, she went off to get some more. A finger buffet would have been better after a lovely lunch and more control of the food being taken.Otherwise a lovely Christmas break and would recommend my friends to stay with yourselves.

I feel the room could do with an update carpet stained bath mould around shower panel. Radiator was not good enough for size of room the fixed tv on the wall was at the wrong Angle to watch comfortable in bed it needs double glazing as a cold draft plus the smell of cigarettes from the start smoking outside. As I said things beyond you control was the room above having a row at 4.30am Christmas morning then again the next night at 1.30am then again from 5.00am till 7.00am. I also feel the seating areas do not have enough good chairs to be able to relax in. But the food was excellent and the staff very helpful
