In our first room the light in the bathroom was in the bath with (presumably live) wires hanging out of the ceiling. We were offered another room when we came back several hours later, to find that there was someone else already in the room (a member of staff had let us in). We were asked to sit in the bar while another room was found. We had two young children and it was getting late - after 30 mins of waiting we were finally given another room, although the spare bed was not made. Someone came and made the sofa bed, which was broken at the bottom and sloped into the middle which meant our children were unable to sleep properly. Given it was our third room and was now well past the children's bedtime, we put up with this. When booking in we had asked what time we would like breakfast - we asked what time it started and were told 7.30am. Upon arriving for breakfast, even though our names were down for 7.30am, we were told it didn't start until 8am. The staff were very helpful in allowing us earlier access to sit down. All of the following were also broken in our room: several light switches, remote control batteries, toilet flush. The mattress in the sofa bed was also very thin and looked dirty. In the swimming pool and changing area the pool was dirty and I had to try 4-5 lockers before finding one that worked. The staff tried their hardest, but this was honestly the worst hotel experience I have ever had.

Extremely disappointing

Farcical and stressful from start to finish this included; trying to make a reservation with a ‘ buy a gift voucher’, communication with the hotel, standard of room and cleanliness, quality of bar food and the fact a payment was taken on my credit card for the stay the day after we left despite the fact I had already clarified on 3 different occasions that we had used a voucher. I then had an issue with trying to get a refund which was not easy as every time I contacted the hotel someone would say they would look into it and get back to me which they did not. After the 3rd attempt someone did finally sort this out. Very disappointed, the only good things were that the reception staff and manager were very friendly and tried to sort out all the issues with the room and did move us as the overflow into the bath was leaking and the cooked breakfast was lovely.

Hotel rooms need attention, overall grubby not worth the money we paid. The staff were all very good they saved the day. Not possible to eat in restaurant no one advised us to book, so we had to go out to find somewhere. The leisure pool was nice, warm water but needs attention, damaged tiles etc

It reminded me of the BBC programme of the 70's "Fawlty Towers" . Chaotic and disorganized.

This is a comment related to the Mercure Leeds Parkway Hotel . Upon arrival just after 6:00pm on Friday 23rd July we were given our room entry card, only to find that the room was already occupied (a suitcase on the bed and clothes in the wardrobe). Bearing in mind that I had made specific requirements for a twin bedded room preferably on the ground floor (because we had a Show trolley for two small dogs which we didn't want to have to manoeuvre up stairs or in a lift ) located on the garden side. After a wait of about 20 minutes, we were offered another room, but with a double bed which we said was unacceptable. It didn't meet our specific request. After about an an hour and a half after our arrival , we were told the only room available was on the 2nd floor which had been set out as twin beds but meant we had struggle with our trolley in the lift. It was clearly obvious that other guests were also having difficulties with various issues relating to service. Having finally been allocated a room, time was getting on and we needed to make sure we could still get a meal before dining finished for the evening. We ordered a meal in the bar area with a request for a bottle of Pino Grigio only to be told that bar staff would have to get a case of bottles from the store ( therefore at room temperature) so the only way they could offer to serve it to us chilled was to attempt to cool it in a wine bucket full of ice and water. It didn't really work during the time it took to eat our meal. Other issues we discovered : The door to the balcony would not lock, the light in the bathroom continually flickered , and we reckoned the batteries in the TV remote needed replacing and the towel rail in the bathroom, which was electrically powered could not be turned off. ( room 419) The whole place looked like it needed some attention and update.

Poor. No draft beer in bar. No room service available. Rooms are extremely tired and my room had wires exposed and a bit of the headboard hanging off the wall. Orange juice at breakfast was watered down.

It was a bed.

Confused B. Friends - 27/07/2021 Confirmed reviews ALL

I booked the hotel due to its location. It was a reasonable rate on a popular wedding weekend and as I was involved in a wedding I knew all I needed was a bed. I booked a classic double room for single occupancy on a BB rate. Due to the time of the wedding, I no longer required the first breakfast. I emailed and asked for credit and was told I could have breakfast delivered to the room but no refund. When I arrived a refund of £11 was thankfully no issue as no room service was available and breakfast didn't start until an hour after I needed it. As I had booked a classic double room, I was surprised when I was told the only rooms available when I checked in at 18.30 were family rooms with double & single beds. I explained it was just me, was given a key and even more surprised when I found just a double bed in the room. The bedroom was spacious and recently decorated. The bathroom was quite dated and there's definitely a height limit for the shower with a light right above. It felt a bit dangerous as a 6ft+ individual trying to wash my hair. My friends had arrived at 14.30 and been given the privilege room they had booked and seemed reasonably happy (just a similar comment about the height of the shower). Our problems began at 21.30 when my friend came to check in. She had also booked a privilege room and was told there were no rooms left. Stunned, we queried this. Cue a sudden realisation that there was a fair few guests sat, waiting for keys to bedrooms. What followed can only be described as a comedy sketch. Staff were wandering around the hotel but not communicating about who they were dealing with. They huffed and puffed and blamed their colleagues quite loudly for issues the guests perhaps shouldn't be aware of. After trying to give the room they finally found to a new arrival, they offered my friend a key. After climbing the stairs to room 307 we noticed the lack of "privilege" on the door. My friend who had a privilege room compared it to her own and made her way back down to reception leaving us with the bags, wedding dress and flowers. We found another employee wandering the corridor to whom we explained the situation and she was stunned we had been sent to the room in question. She explained she had a larger room on the 4th floor available. Our main request was space to get wedding ready. After we cleared up the confusion that we were not their bridal party just coincidentally another tired bride hoping for a good night's sleep and 3 bridesmaids trying to look after her, she made her way to Reception to get the key arranged for 411. Upon arriving at 411 (again, no "privilege") it was clear to me all that whilst the ground level bedroom I had acquired had been decorated, the same could not be said for everywhere. The room smelt of stale cigarette smoke and, whilst the room had a very uncomfortable sofa, I wouldn't personally describe the room as large. It was humid and dingy and the pink bathroom's shower only let out a small trickle. After some offers to trade rooms to give her a better night's sleep, she finally came to the realisation that the room was not going to fulfil her needs of a good night's sleep and wedding preparations. A teary call to the groom-to-be freed up her home to stay in line with tradition. She made her way down to reception, having no apology or offer of compensation at any stage previously, this seemed to continue. They couldn't explain why the room she had booked was unavailable or why it took so long to find any attempt at replacement. The only justification provided was "we're a new team" Finally, a full refund was offered on Friday night and, after a 15 minute sit down the Sunday morning, contact details were exchanged to provide her with a 2 night stay (elsewhere in the country). I can only hope that, unlike the booking process, what is expected is actually delivered. With regards to the remainder of the stay of those that rcould bare it. The £11 breakfast did not seem remotely exciting. My fried egg was turning black underneath, the yoghurt from the fridge was tepid, the pastries were minimal and the coffee machine is tucked into a corner that really doesn't allow for any level of social distancing (psidenote: please can you put a jug of milk near the coffee machine?). I think that pretty much covers the experience. As I say, I slept each night. It's just a shame that that's clearly the mentality offered and there isn't that warm hotel welcome. Just a conference style, in and out. I think it would all make me think again before booking another Mercure hotel.

Tired and lack of action to fix problems

First the positives, the staff were all very friendly and breakfast was fine. The negatives, the property is very tired (like our shower control almost falling off in our hands etc) and it appears that Mercure are running it down gradually vs. redeveloping. The staff were trying, but obviously lacked experience or enough hands on deck. When we arrived my daughter's bed (for our family room that is actually a camp bed) was not in our room and it took over 1.5 hours to sort out the issue; while we waited in reception. Then in the night the camp bed springs started to fall out so it became too unconformable to use, after our long delay to get any bed upon arrival, we replaced the springs ourselves and struggled on for one more night. The same thing happened so we had to stop using it. We asked the next morning to resolve the issue fully, but when we returned in the evening it had not been touched. We had to complain again and it was finally resolved. When we left we wanted to talk to the manager. They were not available and the receptionist gave their card. My wife rang and emailed several times to complain/discuss our experiences, but no response was received. Very disappointing. I would avoid, as despite the friendly staff the lack of responsiveness to our issues is totally unacceptable. A shame as the location is good. I will not give a terrible rating as the hotel didn't spoil the overall enjoyment of our trip to Leeds, but "poor" is pretty generous I feel.

I stayed for one night with my little dog, who slept in his cage all night, so do begrudged paying £15 for his stay. Why is it that small children can stay free, who I am sure make more work for the cleaners than my little dog would every make.

We had a family room for 2 adults and 1 child booked from Thurs 15th-Sun 18th July 2021. Under the name Dr Rorie O. - room 127. On our arrival we noticed that there was only a double bed in the room. We went to raise this with the reception who assured me it was a ‘family room’ and that they would put a camp bed in the room. I questioned that shouldn’t a family room have a proper single bed in the room too not an additional make shift camp bed but they say that’s all they could do. We had to wait in the lounge for over an hour with my young daughter. It was nearly 9.45pm by the time we went back into the room and I was not happy at how flimsy the camp bed was. However, because it was so late didn’t want to wait another hour for them to try and improve the situation. My daughter didn’t have a good sleep at all and in-fact three springs had sprung off the bed and she was sleeping in a well and a big dip, feeling all the rods underneath her. I have photos that I will forward to you. After reattaching the springs for the 2 nd night and after another very unsatisfactory sleep (In which my husband had to sleep in the camp bed so my daughter could share the proper bed and have a decent sleep) we complained again. This time they put in a better camp bed for the 3rd night. That evening I questioned another member of staff if room 127 was a family room and shouldn’t a family room have a proper bed and the staff member agreed with me saying it was the usual standards. I said that evening could we talk to the manager and on the morning of check out on Sun 18th they said wait in the lounge and you’ll come to us. We waited and waited and of course no manager arrived. There was no apology about it. My husband and I realise you were very understaffed but standards like the milk being in the room being out of date and the shower control nearly fell off as we turned the shower on and off, was very poor. The room was also not cleaned to a very high standard.

1. We booked an accessible room clearly stated on booking confirmation. Hotel didn't have us down for an accessible room. Manager sat is down with pot of tea and went off and went off to resolve the problem in a calm and efficient manner. 2. Hotel looked tired and in need of some TLC. 3. It appeared there was a shortage of staff as tables in the lounge areas were unattended. 4. There was 2 weddings in the hotel on the Saturday and many guests were not wearing face masks. 5. Breakfast was very good. Wide range of choice. Dinner choice not so good.

Not family friendly as claimed.

David M. Families - 19/07/2021 Confirmed reviews ALL

Our stay was very disappointing and short-lived as they couldn’t provide a cot for our two month old even though we had requested one five weeks earlier when we booked. This resulted in us having to find last minute alternative accommodation. Some may say we could have co-slept, however, the rooms don’t have air con and it was 27 degrees in the midst of a week/10 days of extremely hot weather, co-sleeping could have resulted in overheating and death. When we finally found the room (we were wrongly directed) the door handle/key card was loose and almost hanging off the door. The cabinet facings in the bathroom were hanging off and the Lino was peeling off the floor. I have no problem with things being dated but it was in need of some serious repairs. Finally, the website claims that the hotel is family friendly but the restaurant doesn’t open until 6pm, which means that realistically we wouldn’t be eating until 6:30pm, given time to order and prepare the food. Our 4 year old eats dinner about 5:30 so we tried to book for 5pm but were told it wasn’t possible. This is not family friendly. Finally, when we then chose to order from the lounge menu (no kids section) the bar claimed that they didn’t have any bottles of water. I understand it was an exceptionally hot day, however, surely this would required there to be more water available. All of this happened but no staff seemed that bothered and there was no help from management. All I can say is that I had regretfully encouraged my wife to chose a Mercure as I’ve had previously positive experiences but this has completed changed my view of this group of hotels.

Hotel was nice but I didn't get things I requested

I requested a privileged room specifically for the robes and slippers which upon arrival we did not have. I requested a bottle of champagne to be added to the room as my partner and I was celebrating. We didn't receive this either, and as it was a suprise I didn't mention it to the desk. The shower wasn't easily adjustable as it was built into the wall, and my partner was too tall for the shower as the shower head only reached his chest. After we checked out, we received a call later stating we still owed money on our room. Even though we paid our room bill at check in. The bottle of champagne was never received yet they still required us to pay for it. It took 5 separate phone call conversations to eventually rectify this situation. However, after finding out that room service put the bottle of champagne in someone else's room. They then requested further payment for the room (which was not mentioned before in previous calls and we had paid for at check in). Eventually they found our card payment on our system and the matter was put to rest after requesting I send proof of payment that I was never given. Overall, the staff seemed disorganised and unable to communicate with one another. Rooms were fairly clean and the walking trails surrounding were lovely. However I will not stay again.

The staff were helpful overall but the hotel is in desperate need of updating. The bathroom floor tiles were cracked, meaning we had to wear shoes in there to avoid cutting our feet. There was a bad smell of damp from the bathroom. We had 1 towel. The heating was on full blast and the windows wide open. There was no dairy alternative for milk with breakfast, which is very poor in this day and age.
