Matt M. Families - Confirmed reviews ALL

I am a loyal Classic customer. I was keen to stay in the Mercure in Swansea this last weekend. I booked a family room for me and my son aged 12. On arrival my room was not available I was given a double bed with a pull out bed. The pull out bed had only 5 slats in the bed base and collapse. We shared a double bed over the weekend. To add to our experience the door cards were utterly hopeless. We have returned 4 cards to reception. The door locks system is hopeless. I am really disappointed in the difference in the quality of the experience having stayed in Glasgow and Edinburgh on business in October of last year. This experience on holiday was really poor. The staff and the food were good. But couldn't help our situation but were sympathetic.

Dear Matt M., Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review today. I am deeply sorry to hear about the issue with the sofa bed and I will raise this with our head housekeeper to look in to this for me. With regards to the door locks I am sorry that this issue happened during your stay, I am terribly sorry to learn about the key card situation and I have placed a order for new cards as on times a bad batch could be sent. I am extremely please that the food and the staff on shift made a good impression I do hope the issues raised have not fully tarnished the chances to book with us in the future the next time you visit Swansea. Warmest Wishes Gavin - Front Office Manager

Checking into the Hotel, I was greeted by a very friendly gentleman at reception. Downhill from here I’m afraid. The entrance lobby smelt of damp and public toilets. My room was on the first floor, there are no lifts! That said, the receptionist did offer to take my bags. The first room I was offered was terrible, very dated, dark brown and chipped mismatched furniture. Smelt of damp and desperation, I thought the room was a cry for help. I asked the very nice man at reception for a refurbed room and he was happy to oblige. My apparently upgraded room on the first floor was also very dated, dark brown furniture and a chair that looked as though it was a hand me down from an old people’s home. Weird built in furniture, the only purpose of this was to offer two bottles of water (no fridge). Bathroom looks as though it’s from the early eighties oh and smells really bad with damp. The carpet, not sure I want to walk barefoot. Went to the restaurant and was told by a very apologetic staff member which dishes were off the menu, it would have been quicker to tell me which one(s) were available. Decided to go back to the room and order room service; I ordered the Tuna sandwich. The poor sandwich was the most pathetic thing that I’ve ever seen, Fawlty Towers could not have done worst. Being hungry, took a big bite of the sad sandwich to feel a very strange and worrying feeling in my mouth and throat. I hadn’t been given said Tuna sandwich but and egg and cress sandwich. I have a severe allergy to eggs and anaphylactic shock is potential killer. Thankfully had epipen with me. Now sat writing this review in a very tired room that stinks of damp.

Dear Holmecourt, Thank you for your review, which was disappointing to say the ,least, as you could have spoken to us about these issues first. The decor and smell issues apart, which are somewhat subjective and not reflected in any other reviews, I am most concerned by the sandwich mix up which was caused by our kitchen. The sandwich they had you down as ordering was a Tuna mayonnaise sandwich, which has eggs in the mayonnaise anyway, but also they were not advised about any allergies, which they should have been if you are someone who carries an epipen and is therefore potentially in danger of going into anaphylactic shock. This doesn't excuse the mix up of the sandwich, but we like all food providers we need to be informed about your allergies, and have a very strict protocol that is then put in place. I have also just visited the room you stayed in, room 150, with both my head housekeeper and duty manger, and none of could smell even the faintest whiff of damp in there. I understand you are back with us tonight, and would urge you to speak to Kelly who is the duty manager, so we can try to get to the bottom of these matters. Best regards ian

On the website u mention about swimming pool and that was the main reason I have chosen the hotel as at the same price we are getting other options as well and there is no signage that swimming pool is closed from last 6 yrs and it is truly mis guiding information for the mentioning regarding swimming pool on site. Simply take it away. Really very unhappy for that. The Quality of breakfast was very poor and not at all managed properly. Lot of food u r saying all finished everyday in the breakfast.

Hi Amit, We do not have a pool, it closed in 2022, and there is nothing on our or any other website that says we still have a pool. Where did you see this, and can you please send a screen shot to us at fr… Thanks

Conveniently situated and did what it said on the tin.
