Melanielucy Business - TripAdvisor review

So… I booked for one night on a business trip, the double room I booked on the website was not what I went into, however, let me start from the greeting. The staff really are wonderful and the hotel management are very lucky to have them if I were a local hotel I would snap them up. On arrival, See the photo of the chair that the receptionist sat on a chair falling apart (shame on the management) if that’s how they expect their staff to work what on earth is the message to guests?? behind the chair was a carpet stuck together with duck tape - not a discreet one but a bright silver one. I was given my room key, up I went and there it was, a dated, humid, in desperate need of upgrading, a peach bathroom suite from the 80’s Mould, floor hadn’t been mopped, loo roll 1/4 left, someone’s hair left for me to enjoy. The window wouldn’t open as the handle was broken and had fallen off, dirty room and very cold (not in temperature unfortunately!) Reception were great and gave me another room, the only difference was two cushions a throw and a small table. Shower had no force, I am not heavy but when I stepped into the bath for a very ‘dribble’ shower it felt as if the bath was going to fall through to the floor below. I had originally booked to stay at the doubletree in Hull but changed my mind as the Mercury looked lovely. I wish I had stayed with my original choice Plus side…. Gardens lovely, staff wonderful, food great On a final but important note, there were no electrical plug points by the bed at all or even on the entire wall where the bed is, they are all on the opposite wall so if you need your phone by you, or a fan plugged in by the bed you have no chance.

Towel rail fell off the wall twice! Was a large step down to get out of the bath/shower, could have done with a hand rail to steady one’s self on exiting the bath/shower. Staff were very good, curtious and helpful.

We found the staff to be very helpful and friendly. The room was clean but the bathroom was very “tired” looking. It could do with upgrading. We did note that there was no chair in the bedroom, so if you were staying for business, you would not be able to sit at the desk unit. However, the bed was comfy ( although the pillows were not very soft!) and it was not noisy, so we had a good night’s sleep. I went for a swim and it was a lovely sized pool. The changing room definitely needs some improvement. No spinner to dry wet costumes, no changing cubicles and the showers were very cramped.
